Chapter Seven: The Boy Who Hates Me

I still could not believe what I had heard last night at the feast. Harry Potter was the fourth Triwizard Tournament champion. 'Harry Potter' was called...and he didn't even put his name in the Goblet. The look on Harry's poor face was utter shock. He wasn't even of age. This wasn't even possible. The Slytherin's surely were furious...I think Draco was on a rage over it too. Listening to them was awful last night in the common room. "Blasted Potter! A Champion? Please."

"Saint Potter, what a disgrace to this school," someone sneered.

"Bloody Potter rigged the Goblet!" They went on and on all night about it. They were absolutely sure he either rigged it, or Dumbledore somehow slide him in. I mean did they even see his face? He was more shocked than anyone in the room. The fear in Dumbledore's eyes as he read the paper...there was no way he would ever put Harry up to that. Despite my grades not being the best, even I could figure out that Harry had nothing to do with this. My question though was, who would do this too him? I couldn't take their complaining and accusations last night, so I left them to rant and unfortunately this morning I woke up to more ranting.

So I actually left early for breakfast. I didn't want to deal with them at the moment. People in Slytherin were starting to recognize I was friendly with Harry Potter. They were looking at me as if I had some sort of 'inside information'. Did they not understand that no one had any clue as to what was going on? It was annoying the hell out of me. I passed Aaron Phoenix. in the hallway on the way to the Great Hall. He looked actually pretty calm for not being selected. I would have expected to see him upset since he wasn't chosen as a champion. Maybe he realized that after last night...he was lucky to not be mixed up in whatever was going on. I walked faster down the hallway because I didn't want any Slytherin's to catch up to me.

"Harry!" I called when I saw him. Harry looked up at me flustered. He looked like he was already in a really bad mood. Maybe I should warn him. Harry slowed his pace but didn't look like he wanted to stop and talk to me. It was understandable I suppose. "Before you run off, I just want to warn you...some of the Slytherin's are little mad over last night." I explained slowly. He didn't need any of their annoyance today. Hopefully he would stay away from Draco's crowd.

"Oh are they?" Harry responded in a snappy tone. Wow, attitude much... I paused from a moment before saying anything. He was already mad so I had to be understanding, but that was hard for me.

"Figured I would warn you," I replied. "They're accusing you and Dumbledore of being up to some-"

"And you believe them, right?" he snapped once more. I'm not sure how much longer I could keep up a friendly tone with him.

"Why would you think that? Obviously I was just trying to warn you. Draco was saying-" I began to reply back.

"All Slytherin's are the same. Draco sending you to threaten me is he?" he interrupted. I couldn't believe his attitude right now. Not all Slytherin's were the same. I thought he realized that a long time ago. I guess not. My face darkened.

"Whatever then," I snapped before walking away. If we continued that conversation it probably just would have ended very badly. I know he's going through a lot, but that was no need to be a complete jerk. So I ended up walking away and going to breakfast in a bad mood myself. He never showed up to breakfast either.

Thanks to Harry's bad mood, now I was in a bad mood. Classes were seemingly going awful and because of last night's drama I forgot to do my essay. Well it was assigned a week ago, but I usually I do it the night before! Snape was furious with me and assigned me detention. Although I was very, very proud of myself because it was my first detention of the year and it was December. Three months I went without detention from Snape, now that was impressive.

During my free class I wanted to go outside and take a short walk before it snowed tonight. Once there was snow on the ground, it was painful to walk around in the freezing cold. Might as well enjoy the grounds while I can. As I walked, I spotted Jake, Cal, Nico, and Gabe all seated outside with a couple of Beauxbatons girls who were shivering in silky blue robes. I haven't seen the guys together since the train. Normally it was just Jake and I who would meet up. "Hey Carlie!" Cal called motioning for me to come over.

I walked over to them. I stood near the guys and glanced over at the Beauxbatons girls. I was immediately intimidated. They were all so beautiful, they resembled the Veela I saw at the match, the ones that Bulgaria brought to their match. "Girls, this is Carlie," Cal said introducing me to the four girls standing across from me. Two of them smiled while the others looked at me blankly."Carlie this is Roseline, Colette, Marie, and Monique." I smiled at them, yet the only one who showed any sign of being friendly was the girl on the far left who I think was Monique.

"They're friends of Fleur's, the Beauxbatons Champion," Nico said in an interested tone. A few of the girls didn't look too excited to be labeled as 'Fleur's friends'. A dark look crossed the brunette one's face, she definitely was envious of her now champion friend. "They don't speak English too well, except Monique, right?"

"Yes," Monique responded with a light accent and a smile looking a bit shy as she looked down at the ground. She was the tiny one out of the group with curly blonde hair and a small amount of freckles on her face.

"Where did you learn English?" I asked her. I knew most of these girls were from French speaking countries. I wondering why the other three seemed as though they barely knew what we were saying.

"My mother was English," she explained. If I didn't know she was from France, I wouldn't have even noticed the light French accent. Yet as I listened, it was slightly there. Just then one of the other girls, Colette I think, began speaking French to their group. I had no idea what they were saying. "I am sorry, we have to go. I hope to see you around." The boys all said bye with wide smiles and eyes drooling after them, except for Jake, he didn't seem to be too impressed.

"Alright, I'm going to get myself a French girlfriend," Cal said loudly and I shook my head at him while taking a seat on the stone wall.

"You do that Cal," I said. He was such a flirt. "Good luck learning to speak French by the end of the year. Don't know if they have a spell for that." At least not one I knew about. If they did...well then I wanted to learn it. Or maybe there was a potion that gave you the ability to speak different languages. Cal shrugged and leaned back against the wall. Clearly he didn't know of any spell or potion either. I watched Ron walk out from the doorway along with Seamus and Dean, he was looking angry and held the same look Harry had this morning. Where was Harry anyways?

I thought too soon, because shortly after Ron, Harry came out walking alongside Hermione but they went the complete opposite way. That was a bit odd, those two usually were inseparable. "Hey Potter!" I heard a cool voice call. Oh dear Merlin...what was Malfoy up to now. I watched as Malfoy and his friends walk up to Harry and Hermione, actually I think everyone outside was watching at the moment. Don't say I didn't warn him. I was in no rush to jump to his defense. "Like them Potter?" Malfoy said motioning towards the badge on his robe.

They weren't too far from me. I glanced at the pin on his robe and it read, Support CEDRIC DIGGORY- The REAL Hogwarts Champion!  Harry responded with just an aggravated look. Glancing at Ron, I realized he was doing absolutely nothing about it. They must have got into a fight as well. "That's not all they do!" Draco yelled even louder for everyone to hear. Malfoy then poked his badge and it twisted in to a new saying. POTTER STINKS. Totally immature Draco, I wanted to yell but I tried...to warn Harry so I'd let him deal with this himself. Currently, I think he deserved it.

"How funny," Hermione spoke up glaring at Draco. "How witty you are."

"Here Granger," Malfoy said holding out a badge from his pocket."Just don't touch my hand because I don't want to have to shower off your mudblood germs." He tossed it on the ground. I could see the anger just building inside of Harry as he whipped out his wand and held it up at Draco's throat.

"Harry!" Hermione yelled, trying to keep Harry from getting himself in any trouble. I mean...if Harry snapped that was totally on Draco. He was pushing his limit with 'mudblood' comment to Hermione. Everyone was sitting around them in a circle now, curious as to what was going to happen.

"Do it Potter, if you've got the guts. No one to protect you now," Draco spoke with a cool smile on his face. In a matter of seconds they began shooting off spells at each other and everyone ducked, including myself. Now I was not expecting them to actually act upon those words. Normally the two were all talk. Goyle was hit by a spell and massive boils began appearing on his face. It was dreadful looking. Hermione got hit as well and she quickly clutched her mouth, what had happened to her?

"Hermione!" someone yelled and rushed over to her side, it was Ron. He pulled her hand away from her mouth and she basically had beaver teeth! I could see tears in her eyes as she covered her mouth up again.

"What is all this racket for?" Snape asked stepping out into the courtyard. I decided to stay hidden behind the wall, didn't want to get in any more trouble. I was happy with my one simple detention later. Snape slowly approached Malfoy. "Explain," he demanded.

"Potter attacked me!" Draco lied while pointing at Harry. "See, he hit Goyle." Snape turned to Goyle and told him to get to the Hospital Wing. "We asked him about the tournament and he just snapped like a mad man." Draco was very convincing. That was a dangerous quality us Slytherin's had, we could be convincing when necessary.

"Liar! Malfoy hit Hermione, see look!" Ron yelled pointing at Hermione's face. Ron once again removed her hand from her mouth and her teeth were even larger than last time. A few people, mainly Pansy, erupted into laughter. Snape stared at her.

"I see no difference," Snape said coldly. Hermione's eyes filled with more tears as she rushed back into the school. How cruel could he be? "Now fifty points from Gryffindor. Potter and Weasley you have detention with me after school." Wow lucky me, detention with Harry on the day he hates me.

I arrived to detention that day early in hopes of beating Harry and Ron there. Yet somehow I walked in just after them. I looked at Harry and decided to actually say something. "You know, I would have defended you today...but I guess all Slytherins are the same," I said to him and he responded with nothing but a cold look. I decided to stay seated in the front.

Snape walked in with his black cloak whipping behind him. "Nyx, do you have your essay," he asked. What? If I didn't have it this morning, how could I possibly have it now?

"Um, no," I said a bit scared actually.

"Start writing now. Twice the length," he commanded.

"Sir, I don't have any books." I could barely write an essay with books, imagine if I had to do it off the top of my head.

"Fine, go to the library then. If that paper isn't on my desk before dinner tonight, then you are receiving a T for the term. Now go." I was actually thankful that I got to leave the room. You could almost feel the awkwardness amongst Harry and Ron. I wondered what he was going to have them do.

A few weeks went by and things were still crazy around here. We always had Rita Skeeter, a writer for the Daily Prophet somehow wandering around the school. I read her articles and they were terrible and obviously lies. It was weird how I haven't spoken to Harry, Hermione, or Ron since Halloween and the first task was taking place tomorrow. I enjoyed my time though I got to spend with Jake even though it was very little. Jake, being a sixth year, has been extremely busy with his apparition lessons. I couldn't imagine every being able to do that the thought of even splinching scared me. Walking down the hall I passed Aaron who was having a conversation with Fleur, the Beauxbatons champion. Maybe he was giving her advice on the challenge or something? I had no idea but they seemed to be in deep conversation I walked a bit faster by them and continued heading off to Potions class when I passed by Eowyn and Dasha. I smiled but they didn't look too friendly. "What's up guys?" I asked.

Dasha glared at me before taking off quickly into the class room. Eowyn looked at me and shook her head. "How could you?" she said angrily and the rushed to her seat next to Dasha. What. The. Hell. What were they talking about? I've barely spoken to anyone other than them the past week. Stepping through the door I watched as they quickly told a bunch of other Slytherin girls to take the seats around them. Wow, really?

Shaking my head at them I took a seat at the only available table in the back corner. Finally someone came and took a seat next to me. "I guess this is the only seat left," a voice said and it turned out to be Ginny Weasley. Well of course she hated me too now. She's been in love with Harry. I guess she hates everyone he does too. And for a while there, I thought we were becoming pretty friendly with our occasionals smiles in the hallways.

"Hi to you too Ginny," she didn't respond. Snape then began Potions class and immediately began snapping out directions to us as we took notes. We were making a potion today called the Dizziness Draught. It did exactly as what it was called, it made you dizzy. Unfortunately we had to work with the person sitting next to us which meant I was stuck working with Ginny who at the moment seemed to not be my biggest fan. I also needed a very good grade. At least Snape wasn't making any mean comments at me today.

"Alright," I said turning towards Ginny wanting to get this over with. "I'll get the ingredients and you can just set up the cauldron I guess." I gave her the easier job because I was trying to show her that I could actually be nice. When I wanted to of course.

Walking back over to Ginny I settled the ingredients down onto the table and noticed she actually did light the cauldron. I wouldn't have been surprised if she hadn't. As we continued working I decided to speak up. Couldn't get any worse could it? "Why are you acting like you hate me? I haven't even said one word to you in over a week." She didn't respond. "Just because Harry doesn't like me right now you don't either?" She gave me a dirty look after that comment.

"Please," she sneered at me. "You defended Malfoy. Shows who your true friends are." What sign did I ever give that Malfoy was a true friend? The two of us could barely be in a room together without some sort of rude remark being made.

"I did not defend him!" I argued back. Harry must have mentioned my comment from detention to her about not 'defending him'. Wow, did he turn that one around on me. Sure Malfoy was a jerk, but Cormac McLaggen from Gryffindor but that didn't make everyone in Gryffindor a creepy jerk.

"It's not just that. You always seem to defend Malfoy and the rest of Slytherin house." Honestly, when I have I ever defended Malfoy. One time we did have a conversation about his parents being 'Death Eaters', but I told Harry I didn't believe it. They seemed to be more about appearances than actions in that family.

"Well if you haven't notice, I'm a Slytherin." Of course I would defend my own house.

"Yeah, well then I suppose you're all the same," Ginny shot back. I could not believe she had just said that. I stared at her in disbelief. Is this the same Ginny that I had always got along with? I was so upset that I barely noticed I was holding a bottle of Wormwood Essence over the Cauldron and the entire bottle was now empty. That couldn't be good. I leaned over the Cauldron quickly to see if the color was anything different the light green it was supposed to be.

It indeed was, now it was a bubbling dark purple and before I could get me head away fast enough a large eruption of steam came from the cauldron and hit me like a rock. Instead of simply becoming dizzy, I passed out.

So the whole part with the fight between Harry & Draco, & Snape being really rude to Hermione was in the book so I really wanted to include it in this part! I loved this part in the book, I wish they included it in the movie. Oh well, hope you enjoyed!
