Chapter 22

“Kailan ka raw magsisimula?”

“1st of October.” And that will be eight days from now. I was smiling all ears because of that. Until now, I still can’t move on from the good news I have received. Sino ba namang hindi matutuwa kapag natanggap ka sa trabaho, hindi ba?

“What do you want?”

I arched my brows. “What do you mean by what I want?” I clarified.

“Baby, you got the job. Tell me something you want and I’ll give it to you.” Does he mean reward?

“Hey, hindi na ako bata para reward-an mo ako.” I laughed because of him. “But if you insist, I’ll let you decide what to give to me,” agad ko ring bawi sa kanya. Itinaas-baba ko pa ang mga kilay ko na siya ring ikinatawa niya.

“Outing?” he suggested. “So, you could relax before you get stressed in your work?” Pareho kaming nagtawanan nito. Hindi nga naman maiiwasan ang hindi mastress sa trabaho.

“Alright.” I agreed. Maybe he’s right. I’ll relax first since I still have a week before I’ll start my work.

Ellie had work this afternoon. Because I was free and it so happened that Rhian called me, we decided to see each other in a cafe near her company. I urged that I will just go to her so she could continue her work without wasting time, but she said she’d rather go somewhere than be stuck in that place.

“Hey. Hi, Rhian. Kumusta na?” We kissed and hugged each other before we sat at a table.

It’s been a while since the last time we’ve seen each other. Hindi katulad noong mga araw na estudyante pa lang kami kaya madalas kaming magkita, ngayon ay madalang na lang sapagkat may kanya-kanya na kaming inaasikaso kahit pa magkalapit lang ang condo niya at ng condo ni Ellie, lalo pa dahil may mga trabaho na rin kami.

“I’m fine,” she replied. We then ordered something from the server and the two of us talked a lot of things.

“Buti naman at may trabaho ka na. If not, I will really force you to work at Echarri. Pati nga si Daddy, gusto kang kunin sa kompanya, e,” usal niya matapos kong magkwento na may trabaho na ako. Rhian already knew that I’m not into foodstuff and she respects that. Still, I’m glad that a job awaits me if ever I wanted to work at Echarri’s Food Royale.

“Ikaw? How’s your work as a President so far?”

“Okay naman. It wasn’t that stressful though,” she sipped on her coffee and that was followed by her heavy sighs. “Hindi nga ako na-i-stress sa trabaho pero kina Tita Margaret at kay Erica naman ako na-i-stress.”

“What do you mean?”

“Ipinasok ni Daddy si Erica sa company. He made her the Financial Management Head. Okay sana kung malaki ang naitutulong niya pero ako na lang lagi ang nag-aadjust sa kanya.” Halata ang inis sa tono nito. Meanwhile, her phone vibrated. Mas lalo tuloy pumangit ang timpla ng mukha nito.

“Isa pa ’tong si Harold. Nag-aaway na naman sila ni Lacey at sa akin na lang lagi nanghihingi ng advice. Goodness, what do I know about a relationship?” she mumbled and I can’t help but laugh.

I wonder how these two are still engaged when they don’t even love each other. Sinubukan naman nilang kumawala but their parents were so persistent kaya hinayaan na lang nila. They’re engaged in the eyes of others, but to them, it’s nothing, just pure friendship.

I already met Lacey and she’s pretty. Minsan ko na kasi itong nakasalamuha. Si Rhian ay madalas sapagkat kasa-kasama niya ito kapag nandyan si Harold. Mabait siyang tao kaya hindi na ako magtataka kung bakit siya nagustuhan nito.

We were in our last year in college when Harold met her and they are in a relationship for two years now. I just don’t know if Harold’s parents already knew about Lacey as his girlfriend despite him being engaged to Rhian. Ang gulo lang talaga ng sitwasyon nila.

Inihatid ako nito sa condo ni Ellie matapos ng ilang oras naming pag-uusap sa cafe. “Okay lang kayo ni Ellie dito?” I nodded at her. “Pakumusta mo na lang ako sa kanya, ha? I can’t go up there anymore. Kailangan ko pa kasing bumalik sa kompanya. If I have time, I’ll visit soon since I’m just on the other building.”

“Sure, ingat ka.” Rhian waved at me and I watched her sped away. Umakyat naman na ako sa floor si Ellie nang mawala sa paningin ko ang sasakyan nito.

With the first ringtone of the alarm clock I set on my phone, I quickly woke up. It’s just 3 in the morning. Nilingon ko si Ellie pero mahimbing pa rin ang tulog nito. I fixed the blanket on his body before I slowly get off the bed.

Pagkababa ko sa kitchen ay nagtimpla ako ng kape. Nang medyo makabawi ako ay saka ako naghanda ng mga lulutuin kong pang-almusal namin mamaya. It took me almost twenty minutes to prepare and cook everything. After that, I took a bath.

Umakyat ako sa kwarto at nakita kong tulog pa rin si Ellie. Umiba lang ang pwesto nito’t nakayakap pa siya sa isang unan. I blowdried my hair and after doing so, I climbed up to the bed. Mahina kong tinapik ang pisngi nito upang gisingin siya.

“Ellie, baby, wake up,” panggigising ko sa kanya. “Hey, wake up,” I restated and he just groaned. I crazily positioned myself on top of him and lightly pinched his cheek, but it didn’t wake him up. “Oy, gising na.”

Because nothing happened, I tried to tickle him using my kisses and it did work when he opened my eyes. Halata pang inaantok ito.

He replied to me with a groan. Wearing a mischievous little smile, I kissed him again. When he was fully awake because of that, he kissed me back. His one hand was now on my waist while the other was pulling my nape to him.

“Can we just cuddle like this here?” he pleaded, and I chuckled.

“No, outing ang ini-suggest mo, ’di ba?” I reiterated then I helped him get up.

Ellie quickly prepared himself. After that, we took breakfast together. It’s almost four when we took our things to his car’s compartment, and 4:18 in the morning when we leave his unit. As usual, the ride took many hours and we reached their resort around 8:30.

Dinala namin ang mga gamit namin sa isang suite na pag-aari niya mismo at saglit kaming nagpahinga roon. Dito rin kami pumunta noong birthday ng Mama niya at nakakatuwa lang na nakabalik ulit ako rito na kasama siya.

Bumaba kami nito noong lunch time na at sa cottage sa may tabing dagat kami kumain. After a bit of rest since we had just taken our lunch, both of us stood and walk hand in hand at the side of the beach and the water was touching our feet. The feeling was refreshing. Hindi naman gano’n kasakit sa balat ang sikat ng araw. Unlike us, some tourists were already enjoying the beach.

Habang naglalakad ay may tumawag sa aming dalawa. “Ellie? Jana?” Sabay kaming napatingin doon.

“Hey!” Ellie greeted her. Ganoon din naman ang ginawa ko. It’s Lara, beside him was a guy and maybe he was her boyfriend.

“I didn’t know we could see each other here. Bakit pa nga ba ako magtataka, e, resort niyo ’to?" she giggled because of her own question. “By the way, he’s Matt, my boyfriend,” pakilala niya sa kasama niya kaya nakipagkamayan kami rito.

“I’m glad to see that you two are going stronger each day.” I smiled at Lara’s statement. “Anyway, we have to go. Naka-schedule kasi kami sa mga water activities mamaya.”

“Ingat kayo,” I said and Lara waved at us before we parted ways.

Nang makalayo kami sa kanila ay inaasar ako ni Ellie na mabuti naman at okay na raw ako kay Lara. He even brought up the day when both of us fought because of her. I was defending myself that my jealousy was valid at that time.

Malakas na tawanan ang bumalot sa amin nang maalala namin ang nakaraan. Well, there’s no need to be ashamed of that because that was part of us growing up with this relationship.

Our second day on this beach came and we did some water activities. When the sunset came, we went to the side of the beach along with his guitar. Doon kasi sa suite ay may iilan siyang koleksyon ng mga gitara at dinala niya ang isa.

“It’s been years since the last time I used a guitar. I missed singing,” he said, now strumming it. “Can I sing something for you?” I just stared at him, feeling the guilt succumbing in my inside. It was my fault why he stopped singing. Sa huli ay napatango ako. I missed hearing him sing too.

Bago nito itinuloy ang paggitara niya ay hinaplos niya muna ang pisngi ko. “Don’t blame yourself, baby. It was my choice too that I stopped doing the gig before. And I told you, I can go back to music anytime, just like now.” I smiled and didn’t say any word anymore.

Nang sinimulan nito ang paggitara kasabay ng kanyang pagkanta ay nakatitig lamang ako sa kanya. I love the feeling when Ellie used to sing like this while he’s drowning me in his eyes. Sa paraan ng pagkanta nito ay ramdam na ramdam ko ’yung pagmamahal niya sa akin.

“How was it?” he asked after singing Always Be My Baby by David Cook.

“I will always be your baby,” I said, replying to the title of the song instead of replying to his question.

Ginulo nito ang buhok ko saka ako niyakap at hinalikan sa ulo. “Of course, you will always be my baby.” Sitting on the white sand, his hand was on my waist while I rested my head on his shoulder, then we wasted our time watching the water in front of us.

We only planned for three days and one night, but we exceeded that plan. Hindi kasi namin namalayan dahil sobrang saya namin dito. Sa ngayon ay pang-apat na araw na namin ngayon. Uuwi na rin naman kami bukas dahil simula na ng trabaho ko sa Lunes, eksaktong 1 ng October.

It will be our last night tonight so we decided to try the Jacuzzi. Good thing the Jacuzzi was placed on every balcony of each suite, giving a nice view of the night sky from above and the clear beach at the bottom during daytime.

I was wearing a pair of a black two-piece bikini when I go down to the Jacuzzi. My hair was just tied up. Minutes later, Ellie came, holding glasses and a bottle of champagne.

“Where did you get that?”

“I asked for it,” he said before he go down too and sat beside me after giving me one glass. We clinked our glasses and sip into them.

Nginitian ko ito. “Mahal din kita."

Because he’s hugging me now, I clasped my hands on his nape and kissed him which he quickly responded. That ended for minutes. Sapat lang para malunod ako sa mga halik niya at hindi ko na namalayan ang mapaglakbay nitong kamay sa katawan ko.

“Ellie,” I murmured when I felt his hand on my entrance.

“What?” he innocently asked as I felt him move my undergarment to the side, exposing the side lip of my feminity.
