Ariana sighed, knowing she would have to reveal parts of her past she would rather keep hidden. However, she trusted Cael and knew he wouldn't judge her.

—My past wasn't easy, Cael. I didn't always have the social standing I have now. I never knew my biological family. I was raised by a witch who couldn't have children. It was a humble life; we weren't poor, but we were at the very bottom of the social ladder. It was during those years that I met the seer.

Cael looked at her with understanding and support, waiting for her to continue.

—I learned to dance and the art of seduction to survive. The seer and I made a pact. She wasn't physically attractive and could never access power. She guided me on whom to approach and seduce to reach the top. In return, I promised her a life of luxury in the shadows. We have been good friends since then, and I have always fulfilled my part of the bargain, giving her more than she asked for.

Cael gently took Ariana's hand.

—Ariana, I would never judge you for your past. I am hopelessly in love with you, and Iwould do anything for you. —he said sincerely—. I would literally die for you.

Ariana smiled, relieved by Cael's understanding and love. Together, they entered the seer's residence.

Ariana and Cael exchanged a surprised glance but trusted the seer.

—We need information about the different social tiers —Ariana said—. We must know each world thoroughly to find the most powerful of each lineage and fulfill the prophecy.

—Only witches and vampires can sense ogune among themselves. The rest of the social groups can only sense it with their own kind. Therefore, the only ones who can govern fairly and nobly are witches and vampires together.

The seer explained that within each social class, there was its own government that operated in the same way: a hierarchical order based on desire. To find the most powerful of each lineage, they had to immerse themselves in each world.

—We will start with the vampires, a world that Cael knows well —the seer continued—. Next will be the marine world, with mermaids, nymphs, and tritons. Then, the forest world, with fairies and elves. The fourth, the mountains, home to the werewolves. The fifth, the valkyries and warriors. And lastly, Luxuria, the capital, with the witches and demons.

As the seer prepared a tea with special herbs to open their minds to new perceptions, Cael took the opportunity to ask more about Ariana's past.

—Ariana, can you tell me more about your life before Luxuria? —Cael asked gently.

Ariana sat next to him, taking a cup of tea and sighing deeply.

—I didn't always have the confidence and position I have now. I was raised by a witch named Selene. She was a kind woman, but her social standing was very low. She taught me to dance and use my charm to survive. I learned to seduce and win the favor of those in power.
