07| A Pantry Care Taker?
Amber Erin Anderson
Thankfully, Ember didn't notice me grinning like a creepy person and had his attention fixed on Zenix.
"I will be staying in my room after the announcement so I don't think I will be needing your help with my eyes. You can go," he said, and it took everything in me to not start screaming at the top of my lungs for not getting anything that he was saying.
Zenix nodded, his demeanour serious.
Ember wasn't finished. "And," he began, giving a brief look to Keith and then looking back at Zenix. "If you hear anything about Ilayna, report to me immediately."
"I would have sent Keith for the looking but I need him here. . ." he paused. "For answers."
And with that being said, he left, not giving me any explanation or saying anything at all. Zenix followed behind him after bidding Keith a goodbye and then they disappeared.
I sighed.
"So. . ." I began, trying to find a way to change the subject. "Ember told me you'll tell me about this place but first tell me-" I began, walking towards the window and gazing outside while continuing.
I forgot the question that I was about to ask when I saw two women outside, wings attached to their backs, flapping against the wind as they conversed with another, not even being bothered by the fact that they had crimson wings attached to their legitimate backs!
I rubbed my eyes aggressively, making sure I wasn't hallucinating but those women were still there, their wings still flapping and the people around them didn't have any problem with them either.
"WHY DO THEY HAVE WINGS?" I turned my head, facing Keith, watching him with wide eyes, my voice raised.
He raised one of his plucked white eyebrows and came forward to witness the shock that I just saw. "Oh. . . " he turned around, now facing me. "That was not how I wanted to start this conversation," he scratched his neck, confused, as if not knowing how to start this conversation now that I had see that.
"Where am I suppose to start from now?" he asked, to who, I didn't know because it wasn't certainly me.
"Oh, I don't know!" I said, scoffing and grabbing my hair. "From anywhere so I don't lose my mind?"
Keith took a deep breath and then let it out. He looked at me sternly. "Alright, Amber," he began. "Whatever I am going to say now might sound a little absurd and nonsensical but I want you to trust me," he said, bobbing his head while I gave him a side look, slowly nodding my head.
"Alright. So, we have a magic system-"
I groaned.
"Of course, it's you who's lost his mind," I mumbled.
"Where is Ember?" I asked impatiently, looking at the door which exited his room. "He's the who brought me here, right? So where is he?"
Keith frowned. "He is in the throne room? But Ember said you're to stay here until he arrives-"
"I have been kidnapped by bunch of lunatics!" I said, making my way towards the grandiose door carved with golden details of leaves and eagles.
Keith's frown only deepened, more confused than me. "Kidnapped? Lunatics?"
I ignored him, opening the door and then facing him again. "So, does Ember work in this palace as a guard or something?"
Keith frowned again. "Work here? No, no. He's actually the p-"
I cut him off instantly when I realised I was right now. "He's actually the pantry care taker?"
"What? No! You're getting it all wrong. He's the p-"
I cut him off midsentence again. "He's the Prince's guard? I mean, didn't someone come a while ago and told him to get the prince and stuffs?"
Keith sighed and was kind of frustrated this time. "He's not the pantry care taker, a guard, the Prince's guard. He is the p-"
"Pfft! Forget it. I'll just find him and will ask myself. I'm sure he hasn't gone too far." I strode towards the door while Keith called out for me.
After I had closed the door behind me, my jaw dropped when I saw the scenery infront of me.
"Whoa," I gasped when I saw the interior of the palace. Currently I was standing in the middle of the longest hallway I had ever seen in my life. There was a lengthy white and silver carpet place on the white shiny marbled floor which ended the hallway. There were also tremendous vast glittering crystal chandeliers above me--which ended right when the hallway did and they were much larger than Ember's ones.
The architecture of the hallway was the same as Ember's room--baroque architecture and the wall were of course--white. In my right was Ember's room and just beside his, was another room--its door closed. And just like that, there were at least five rooms in total in my right and left.
I shook my head, not trying to waste my time and started to look for Ember. I walked, walked and walked until I was finally at the end of the hallway and that's when I spotted Ember, who was walking faster than me.
"Ember!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, waving my hand and succeeding in getting his attention.
He stopped in his tracks and turned around, sighing, as if he was expecting me here anyway.
"I knew Keith wouldn't be able to handle you and you'd do something as reckless as this, so I already told the guards to patrol somewhere else." He sighed in relief.
"Aw, that's so sweet of you!" I exclaimed, grinning ear to ear.
"Now come along with me!" I hissed, gritting my teeth. "You've got a lot of explanation to do! Keith is blabbering nonsense and I just saw something horrendous!" I exclaimed, seizing his wrist which was covered with his white sleeves.
"I've an important thing to do and I'm getting late for it. So, I'll be meeting you after sometime. Now, go, go, go," he tried to push my back and me towards his room but I didn't walk so much just so I could return back!
"I will not return without you! I thought I was your childhood friend or something. Then, what could be so important for you than a friend who's sick and can't remember anything?" I sighed, jutting my lips out.
"I. . . " his earthly eyes immediately softened while I mentally cheered myself for my puppy act. "Erin, I'll be back before you know," he said softly and I groaned mentally.
"Now go, before my brother sees you. It'll be disastrous," Ember shook his head and I asked,
"You have a brother?" I started to imagine how his brother would be. Would he be more handsome than Ember?
"Two, actually." He corrected as I started picture his brothers but his brother wasn't the way I pictured him as after a few moments, he himself graced us with his presence.
Ember mumbled obscenities under his breath when he noticed a tall figure coming out of one of the five rooms and walking towards us.
As I was about to ask who it was, I realised it had to be Ember's brother as he was talking about him. Before his brother's eyes landed on us, Ember mumbled darkly:
"Not now, Ira."
