Amber Erin Anderson
"She's warm."
My eyes snapped open upon hearing the silvery voice while I laid in someone else's bed, my body relaxed and no longer in pain or ache like it had been.
Opening my eyes, I realised a hand was cupping my cheek gently, brushing my cheek with his finger pads.
Before I could even make out his features or his expression or even read the room, he'd already leaned in towards me with his one hand on my side, his body hovering above mine, creating a large shadow, his hair falling on my collarbone and brushing it with its tips, sending me shivers through my body as I stopped breathing for a moment.
When he was close to my ear shell, he said:
"Welcome home, Erin."
He then leaned back and I finally released my breath.
He stared at me, a small smile on his rosy lips, causing me to see his tiniest of dimple, his shoulder-length white hair flowing down his broad shoulders as he tucked a strand of hair behind his pierced ears.
While his hair was as white as the clouds, his eyes were like the earth - brown, warm and for a moment, they seemed artificial or maybe it was just my misinterpretation.
My own eyes widened when I remembered what happened yesterday and I realised I couldn't really remember anything at all. All I could remember was just me getting up from my bed and going to the balcony and then suddenly, my head started getting dizzy and that was it before I lost all my memories from yesterday.
I instantly sat straight up, eyeing the guy darkly, my heartbeat quickening as he waited for me to speak, his eyes delightful. "Who the hell are you and what the hell do you think you're doing?" I asked, moving my body behind, away from him.
He made a confused face with a frown and before he could say anything, I pushed him. I pushed him with all my might and it worked.
Instantly, he backed off, more like fell behind--giving me the satisfaction that I needed. Although, I wanted him to directly land on the ground and fall on his butt, it didn't happen as he adjusted his balance and sat in the carved chair which was right beside the bed.
He sat in the chair, straightened his position, crossed his legs and let his ankle rest upon the other leg's knee--while eyeing me sternly with his sudden electric eyes.
"You are lucky that I'm not like one of my brothers who would have given you a severe punishment for treating me like that," he said curtly, his eyes still bored into mine.
"Why? What are you, a Prince?" I scoffed, waving my hand.
"Who's going to tell her....." I heard another guy saying in a sing-song voice.
And that was when I realised that there were two other living beings here instead of the guy sitting in the chair.
The one who had made the previous remark had the same white hair as the guy who was sitting beside me, his hairstyle instantly reminding me of Nathan as he had the same side bangs as him and the same lose curls. His grey eyes were hopeful and for a moment, I could see kindness in his soft stormy eyes.
He smiled at me and gave me a small wave while I wondered what to do: wave at him back and smile or make a run from here because I had no idea where I was and if they were here to rob me off, I would be the happiest because I was beyond broke.
The other guy who was standing beside him was rigid and you could guess just by his body posture and language that he was always on guard. He noticed me, said nothing and then looked away, leaving me more confused than I was.
"Do you always stare at people like that? Because it's making me really uncomfortable," he finally said, now looking at me, his dark brown bangs almost covering his hazel eyes.
Yes, especially when those people are charming.
I cleared my throat, shaking my head and coming to my sense.
Focus!
The guy sitting in the chair glared at me suspiciously and I smiled at him sweetly. "May I know what I'm doing in an unknown place with you guys and what is this place?" I continued smiling sweetly.
I looked around my surroundings and realised the room wasn't less than a luxurious hotel. The white bed where I was sitting was twice larger than mine and was comfy--and looking above, I saw an immense glittering chandelier which was white and sparkling golden, its golden marbles shining brighter than anything in the room.
Hell, this thing is brighter than my future.
The room was huge--huge enough to make me compare its size to mine and Nathan's apartments, but still it won't be efficient enough. The walls were completely white with baroque architecture--making everything more royal. The furnitures were white and golden, the sofa seemed comfortable just by giving one glance towards them and the mini tables which were placed in corners were filled with various types of mouth-watering food that I had never seen in my life.
I've to eat those.
"How do you know my middle name?" I suddenly realised as I frowned, eyeing three of the guys sternly while not letting my guard off and preparing myself for any upcoming attack.
The guy sitting in the chair gave me look which was indicating that I just asked a very dumb question. He stood up from his chair while coming towards me as the lock of hair that he had tucked behind his ear fell in front of his eyes--making him tuck his hair behind his ear again, this time two locks of hair.
"What do you mean by that? Of course, I know your name and you know mine too," he chuckled softly and I kept my serious face still.
"Sorry, but do I even know you?" this time I chuckled and his face turned serious and pale-- both at the same time.
"You're kidding, right?" he asked nervously, his eyes pleading me to say 'yes'.
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" I returned my monotonous face as he ran a hand through his hair-- grabbing the ends of it.
"Erin, I'm Ember," he said quietly, his silvery voice suddenly cracked-- as if what he feared just happened and his chocolate eyes becoming wide while looking at mine with hope.
I was a bit shocked when I realised our name matched in an odd way but that wasn't my concern right now. This guy was claiming that we know each other even though I was extreamly sure I never met him. His sad stares made me want to say that I knew him, but I couldn't just lie to him like that and give him false hope. So, I did what I felt like was right to do.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you Ember, but I really don't know you," I said, looking at him as the hope in his eyes died.
He took a step backwards, losing balance and tripping against the chair while dropping his head in his hand.
"Erin, it's me, Ember," he said with a sad voice, his expression not visible.
"You don't remember anything? You were nine when we met and we literally spent a year together." Before I could process the words that he just said to me, he came closer to me and sat at the edge of the bed, eyeing me.
I was about to speak but he cut me off and said:
"We danced in the rain, we chased the same butterfly and we....also saw rainbow for the first time together."
My eyes went wide when I heard that from Ember. Was he telling the truth? Did we really know each other? If so, then why couldn't I remember even a single thing? What was going on?
"You don't remember any of that?" he asked quietly, still looking at me hopefully.
"I- I don't," I sighed and he let his head drop back, breathing heavily.
"Keith, what's happening? Why can't she recognise me?" Ember looked at the other white-haired guy while the guy named Keith was absorbed in deep thoughts.
He didn't wait for Keith to answer when he turned to the other guy, his eyes desperate, wide and hopeless. "Zenix, do you know anything?"
Zenix came forward, looking bored and then sighed. "When one travels worlds, they are to forget the memories of the world they have the least memories with. Remember?" Zenix said, shaking his head, annoyance written across his face. "She had the least memories with this world and the most with the world she was in before we got her here-"
Ember's face darkened as he stood up, and stepped forward Zenix, his height hovering on him. "I know that. You don't have to tell me things that I taught you," he said, clenching his jaw while Zenix frowned, almost quite not being able to believe he just said that to him.
Ember started again. "What I want to know is that this rule wasn't suppose to work on her. She was suppose to remember everything because she-"
Keith came between them, placing a hand on Ember as his eyes finally softened, realising how he had just misbehaved with Zenix. "Ember, calm down. This isn't you. You're upset and you should calm yourself-"
"She's forgotten about me!" Ember said, his voice angry as I realised my surroundings: this wasn't good - I had no idea what was going on, or who they were or what they were even talking about. "I spent over a decade searching for her and she's forgotten all about me!"
Three of them sounded like outright lunatics to me.
"Yes, we all can see that, thanks to your loud voice and your very dramatic emotional outbursts from a while ago but can we do-" Zenix was cut off by Keith, his eyes no longer soft - but they had turned serious and still.
"Zenix, I want you to stay quiet until both of you have calmed down and Ember," his eyes returned to Ember. "We will talk about this later," he then turned towards me, looking at me sternly while I grinned at him.
"First, we have to fill her in. Clearly, she doesn't remember anything. She might consider us dangerous if we fail to convince her that we don't want her any harm," Keith advised.
Ember said nothing - he only sighed and walked away, going towards the opened window and looking outside, his hair flowing with the soft wind as he tucked few strands of hair behind his ear but they were of no use as his hair returned to its usual position, making me chuckle.
"You wanted to know where you are," he said, not looking at me or waiting for my answer. "Well. . . ." he began and then said a name that I had never heard of in my entire life.
"You are in the Elysian Kingdom."
