CHAPTER 4 : THE FATED MEETING
Nam Soon was exhausted after working hard all day, with so much stress in her mind, when suddenly she received a text .
Gang Hee Sik: We have traced the location where the contact number of the orphanage was used last time. I am here to investigate and find out about the case. Don't worry. Meanwhile, the location is near the seashore, and it is such a beautiful sight. I am sending you a picture.
Reading the text put a weak smile on her face, not reaching her eyes. She is glad to know that they are getting somewhere with the case.
"Gang Hee Sik has sent you a picture. Click here to open it"
She opened the picture, and the beautiful nature helps her relax a bit. It was evening, so the sun was setting and looked as if it was melting away like ice cream in the vast blue sea. She was about to turn off her phone when something distant in the sea caught her eye: a blue boat sailing alone in the vast sea, with only one man in it. The man was wearing a black suit and looked nothing less than a top-brand model. For some reason unknown to Nam Soon, he looked furious. His expression was serious, and he seemed ready to kill anyone who pissed him off.
"He looks so damn good," she whispered as if she were under some spell.
"Who?" her colleague Lily asked peering over Nam Soon's shoulder to see the picture.
"No one. I was just thinking about.... Drama... yes, the male lead of a new K-drama that I started watching last night. The scene features him in a seashore, so..." Nam Soon replied.
"Oh... Okay. What is the name of the drama? I will put it on my watch list. " Lily asked.
"The name? It's... Crash Landing on Ryu Sun Jae," she replied.
Lily: "What?" She looked confused. She is new to the K-drama world.
Nam Soon: "Yeah. It's about a girl who goes back in time and lands in North Korea to save her favourite idol," she said, trying her best to not laugh, knowing she had just combined two dramas.
Lily: "Umm.. That sounds... SO GOOD. I will watch it. Let's go back now. Our break ends soon."
Nam Soon was relieved after hearing this; also a bit guilty of what she had done and prayed that God and the fandom would forgive her.
Nam Soon: "Sure. Let's go."
She put her phone in her pocket, her mind still thinking about the mysterious man and what he was doing in the boat alone. It did not seem like he was traveling, but why did it matter to me? she thought as she took a deep breath and went back to work.
He picked up his phone and called someone, putting his one hand on the rail of the boat.
"Kyle. Where is the shipment now?" Ryu Si Oh asked.
"Boss, the shipment is very close to your boat, and it seems like the White Shark Gang is not tailing us now," Kyle replied while checking the live reports of their location on the big screen in the control room.
"Okay. I will call again after receiving the shipment. Let me know if there are any problems. Also, order the Security staff to raise the security level near the lab and Mr. Lee. Do not let anyone else enter unless and until I say so", Si Oh ordered and cut the call. Taking his hand off the railing and using binoculars, he saw the boat coming close. He slowed down his boat as the other boat came closer.
"Boss." Everyone present in the boat shouted at once and bowed down at a 90-degree angle to show their respect to their Boss.
"Is Paul okay?" he asked.
"Yes, sir!!" they replied.
"Show me your mark," he ordered.
After inspecting the unique mark and code on each worker's body, he proceeded to relay further orders.
"Okay. Follow my boat to the shore and make sure not to seem suspicious while doing so. Keep the fish nets on top." He ordered as increased the speed of his boat and turned it around to reach the shore.
At 9:45 p.m.
The shipment was received properly, and the workers helped to keep the parcels at the warehouse. After making sure that everything was okay, Ryu Si Oh dismissed everyone, but something just did not make sense to him. After receiving the intel about the hijack and Pavel's instructions to receive the shipment by himself alone, it just did not seem like a coincidence. He started his car and drove around until he found a blind spot without CCTV cameras to call his manager to look into it when someone's voice started echoing around in his car, and he put the phone back in his coat.
Voice: "Seems like you are still alive, huh?"
He instantly reached for his gun while looking around to find the source of the voice.
Voice: "Not so strong without the guns now, are you?"
Ryu Si Oh: "Who the hell are you huh? Do you dare to mess with me? Reveal yourself if you are so brave."
Voice: "Don't be so impatient. For now, let's play a game. Let's see who wins"
Before he could answer, a countdown started "The car is about to self-destruct. Five...Four..."
Si Oh cut the safety belt as soon as he could and struggled to open the car door, which was jammed.
"Three.... Two... One..."
"BOOM" Something blasted inside the car, and it took less than a second for the fire to ignite the engine. A huge blow of fire threw off everything in its way. There was smoke spreading out everywhere.
"Madam, there is no way he could have escaped that. We won, madam. Ryu Si Oh is dead." The lady's manager said.
"Finally, you got the punishment," the lady replied drinking wine straight out of the bottle while lying on her lavish couch.
At 9:30 p.m.
"Finally, the shift is over. I am so tired today. Can you please drop me off? " Lily asked Nam Soon.
"I would have loved to, but my car has gone for servicing, so I have to take the bus today. I'm sorry," she replied.
"It's okay. I will book a cab. Should I book one for you too?" Lily asked.
"No. I'll be fine," Nam Soon said, smiling. She did not want to take the cab, as she thought that was just a waste of money when it would take her less than half an hour to reach her house by running. Her super strength made her life easier, but at the same time, she would have to go through the streets without CCTV to make sure that her powers were not revealed, something that she learned from her distant aunt, Do Bong Soon.
She packed her stuff and prepared to leave. She walked for some time and then started running after she was away from the Hospital. Her eyes glowed a combination of yellow and blue, as they always did when she used her strength at an extreme level.
She stopped when she heard her ringtone and received the call.
"Are you doing the night shift again? Have you had dinner yet?" Her father asked with worry.
"Appa, my shift ended a bit late today, so I did not have dinner yet. I promise to be careful from now on," she replied, making every effort to convince her father that she was alright.
"No. I will not hear anything today. Come over here to have dinner with your appa and brother. I will wait for you. You like chicken, right? I have some in my kitchen. I will prepare it for us. Come fast." her father said.
"Okay, Appa. I will be there in some time." she said and cut the call when she heard a voice. Some guy was screaming, "Who the hell are you?" at the top of his lungs. Whoever he is, he is mad for sure. She detected the voice and ran towards it as fast as she could, wondering if someone was in trouble.
It was dark even for her vision, and all she could see was a man in a black suit sitting in his car, struggling to open the door while some machine inside was counting down to five. The handle must have malfunctioned, and somehow she knew that she had to help him out, maybe her gut feeling, or maybe it was her Doctor self who could not stand a person dying in front of her eyes like this.
She quickly broke down the door before the countdown reached to one and carried the man in her arms, running as fast as she could away from the car. Not much later, she heard the blast. She covered the man's ears with her hands after putting him in a sitting position near the back of a building. She was looking at the choking fumes spreading out as the man started coughing.
Till now, both of them had not paid attention to each other, but when he started coughing, she turned her concerned gaze from the fumes to his face, her hands still over his ears, holding his head in place, as he slowly regained his consciousness.
"Are you okay?" Nam Soon asked, worried.
"I'm fine, Kyle," he said slowly as he opened his eyes and realized the person in front of him was not Kyle.
He took the revolver out of his pocket and put it near the person's head not understanding if he was furious or grateful.
He leaned forward to look at the person's face with more clarity as Nam Soon rolled her eyes and made no effort to throw the gun out of his hand. She knew it would take her less than a millisecond to turn the tables as she kept observing the audacity of the man for pointing a gun at the person who just snatched his foot from the stairs of the afterlife and saved his life.
He took his phone out and turned on the flashlight. He looked up as their eyes met for the first of many times. They kept looking at each other, trying to make out if it was the same person they had seen before.
"The girl from the airport. My super strong lady," he thought.
"The boy from that picture. My handsome guy from the sea," she thought.
"Were we destined to meet?" they thought at the same time.
"Thud," the sound of the gun falling from his hand pulled them both back to reality as they realized just how close they were, how they leaned towards each other to look at the faces in the dark. She was about to remove her hands from his face when he put his one hand over hers, as if trying to seek some kind of comfort after he almost died, and asked her in a deep, rusty voice.
Ryu Si Oh: "Who are you, truly?"
