Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Todays the day. Todays the day. Todays the day.
This kept circling in Agnes's head as she lay in bed the next morning. Tonight, at sunset she would get her unicorn.
"Agnes! Nicole! You up yet?" Her mother called from the bottom of the stairs. Agnes leaped out of the comfy blue sheets and went to Nicoles room, opposite her. Nicole was still out of it.
"Hello" Agnes whispered in her ear. After No Responce, she flipped off the sheets and threw them on the desk on the other side of the room. Still no responce.
"Hello? Anyone in there?" Nicole groaned.
"Go away." She grunted.
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"Yes."
"No - wait what?"
"Ha! Got ya! Good morning!" Agnes twirled around the room.
Nicole rolled over and put her pillow on her head,
"You do realise what day it is, right?"
"Uhhh, Saturday, a day we are supposed to be in bed?"
"No silly, well, yes, it is Saturday, but, it's unicorn day." She sang. Agnes started to laugh at her sister reaction. She bolted upright in her bed, so fast that she ended up falling off, onto the ground and lay there for awhile.
"It's not funny." Nicole groaned.
"No, it's not, it's hilarious." Agnes walked out of the room, leaving her sister to help herself out.
"Morning mother!" Agnes slid down the railing of the stairs and greeted her mother.
"Hello, darling." Diana looked upstairs. "Is Nicole up yet?" Agnes shook her head.
"Well she sorta is. She forgot that today was the day, and when I told her, she fell off the bed." Diana chuckled at what was just told to her, and opened to fridge.
"What are we having?" Agnes asked, coming up beside her.
"I don't really no.... Maybe pancakes?" Diana grabbed the pancake mix that was sitting on the bottom shelf.
"Ohhh, yes! I'll go ask Nic." She said referring to her sister, and raced back upstairs, nearly tripping on all of them.
"Nic!" Agnes called when she reached Nicole's bedroom.
"Wat?" Her sister grunted.
"Wanna have pancakes for breakfast?" Agnes walked in the room to see Nicole laying on the floor.
"Sure." She muttered
"What?"
"What's what?"
"I mean what's happened to you?"
"I am really nervous." Nicole lifted her head to stare out the window. "Like, really, really. I have so many questions! Like, what if my unicorn doesn't like me? What is I don't like it? What if-" Agnes put one finger over Nicole's mouth.
"Too many what ifs. What happens happens, and what doesn't, well, doesn't. The bond between your unicorn is so powerful, nothing can ever break it." Nicole looked at her with one brown raised.
"Since when did you become so wise?"
"Since forever, dear sister. You just haven't noticed it." Agnes said in posh voice, with a serious face.
"Wow, I must be really unobservant, also, you have never called me 'dear sister' before." Nicole said in a "seriously' voice.
"Well, my amazing sister, maybe you just need to become more observant." Agnes mangeged to held her serious face.
"Imma get you, 'dear sister'." Nicole got up and Agnes ran out of the room, squealing with laughter. Nic caught up and jumped on top of her, causing her to fall to the ground. After a lot to laughter, Nicole got off, and they both lay panting, for a moment.
"You.. Never.. told me... what you... got in the... test " Agnes's sister panted.
She had completely forgotten about yesterday, in all the excitement of the morning.
"Don't get jealous.... but I am a Mysticala...." She trailed off at the look of Nic's face.
After a lot of face contorting, Nicole faced her with a smile.
"That's so cool Ag! Are you happy with that?" Agnes sighed with relief.
"So your not upset." Nicole shook her head.
"No, of course not, if anything, I'm happy that I got in! As long as you are happy, then so am I." Agnes looked at her with narrowed eyes.
"Are you feeling okay?" Agnes pressed her cold hands Nic's forehead.
"Ah, cold, cold, cold!" Her sister leaped back.
"I know, that's why I did it. Anyway, when did you become so wise, 'dear sister'. That's my job, to be the only insightful person in this family." She burst out in giggles, and Nic joined in.
"That.... Is not.... Your job." Nicole said between laughs.
"Says who?"
"Says me!" Agnes tackled her sister.
"Hey! This is my job! It's supposed to be vide versa, thank you very much!" Nicole shoved her sister off and got up to run down stairs. Before Agnes had even got up got up, Nic had reached the stairs, but was going too fast. She slipped, and rolled down the marble stairs.
Thunk
Thunk
Thunk
When she reached the bottom, she lay there groaning.
"Oh my moons! Nicole are you okay!?" Agnes rushed down stairs, and crouched beside her sister. Diana came hurrying over.
"Uh.." Nicole groaned. "Are the pancakes ready yet?"

"Come on, we can't be late! How long does it take to get ready?" Agnes heard her mothers call from the kitchen. She hurried to finish putting on the blue lipstick on. It probablely had no need, but it was still cool to wear. She rushed downstairs in her jeans, and long sleeved shirt. She grabbed a jumper off the hook next to the door and stood beside her mother, while putting it on.
"Come on Nic!" Agnes called upstairs.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" A few seconds later Nic came down the stairs with red lipstick on, jeans and a frilly shirt.
"Must you wear that Nicole?" Diana gestured to the shirt.
"Of course, I have to make a good first impression!" Diana rolled her eyes.
"Have you two got your bags?" Agnes nodded and picked up her bag with her most needed belongings in it. Nicole went over to the kitchen bench, and picked up her bag. "Okay, you have your clothes, your.... Oh, you don't actually need anything else, Nicole, what have you got in your bag?" Diana asked, seeing as Nic was struggling to luge her bag over to the front door.
"Oh, uhhh, just my clothes." Nicole was a bit of a beauty Queen.
Diana rolled her eyes. "Come let's go."
The family walked out the door and into the moonlight. Agnes looked at the moon and saw that it was blood red.
"It's the perfect night for a unicorn hatching. Has been a Luna moon like this in years!" Diana followed her daughters gaze and nodded her head in agreement.
Diana walked over to the stables to get Frosted-shock.
"Shock can only carry one tonight, so you two will have to go on the horses." She gestured to the 5 horses in the opposite stables. "Go choose one, it's the last time you will ride one." The sisters nodded and walked over to the stables.
"I do dibs on Blossom!" Nicole said and walked over a dappled palomino.
"Oh fine, I'll go on tornado." Agnes walked over to a beautiful dappled grey and walked her out of the stables. She got a bridle and put it on her, Nicole doing the same thing. They mounted their horses and clicked them on the walk next to Frosted-Shock. It was hard to believe that horses were this small, they were tiny against Shock!
"Race you!" Agnes said to Nic and she took off on tornado, knowing that she would win, because her horse was faster.
"Hey! No fair!" Nic said and raced after her. Agnes looked behind her and wondered where Her mother was. She looked forward again and saw Frosted-Shock and Diana way ahead of her
"Mother!" She yelled to Diana. "Comon girl, faster!" She said to her horse, and clicked her tounge. Tornado picked up her pace but couldn't reach Shock.
Before she knew it, Agnes had reached the halfway mark of the mountain that they had gone in yesterday. She looked up and saw the hatchery, with a couple of people lined up already. The group of three came to a stop, and they dismounted. Her horse and Blossom were panting heavily, even Shock was too.
"I am so proud of you, my daughters." Diana embraced the two sisters in a hug.
"Oh.. mum your squishing us.." Nicole said breathlessly
"Oh sorry, whoops!" Diana let let go and kissed them both on the cheek. "Im gonna miss you so much! Have fun!"
"Love you mother, see you in the holidays!" Nicole and Agnes both kissed their mother and grabbed their bags. Together they walked and waved to their mother, who had grabbed the reins of the horses and started to ride away. With one last glance back at her kids, she got Frosted-Shock into and canter with the horses galloping along side them.
"Shall we go?" Agnes asked Nicole, who was looking a bit scared.
"Yeah." They walked over to the entrance, and, Nicole, seeing that some of her friends were there, walked over to them, saying a quick, 'later' to Agnes.
"Agnes!" Someone behind her said. She turned around and smiled.
"Island! It's so good to see you!" Island ran over to her and embraced her in the hug.
"It feels like I haven't seen you in ages! How was your Wilderness camping trip?" Agnes pulled back from the hug to see her best friend properly. She had golden curls, and freckles on her face, with blue eyes.
"It's was awsome! We even saw a herd of Wild unicorns! They were sorta creepy though, I mean, we could see their insides!" Island shuttered slightly at the thought.
"I missed you so much! I'm assuming that you got in?" Her best friend nodded.
"Yeah I did." But then her face saddened. "I was the only one who got in."
Agnes looked at her. "You mean that Lucus and Seth didn't get in?" She referred to her brothers. Island nodded sadly.
"Oh, Island, I'm so sorry. But look on the bright side, we're about to get our Unicorns!" Island perked back up.
"You're right, thanks Agnes- oh hey look! Here comes Instructor Diamond!"
Agnes looked down the hill to see Diamond on her unicorn, Lunas-Sunshine.
"Hey, folks! How ya'll going?" Everyone in the crowd shouted back many exciting answers, and Diamond had to get Luna to neigh loudly to get their attention again.
"Settle down everyone! I want you all to line up! Single file." Diamond dismounted, and walked to the front of the group. Everyone pushed and shoved to get to the front of the line, and Agnes and Island walked around the group, and got to the front, just behind a few kids.
"Did you get told what Wildflower you are?" Island shook her head.
"Did you?"
"Yeah..."
And?" Island looked at her questionly
"I am a Mysticala."
"Oh my god, really?" Agnes nodded. "That's so cool!
"Oh, thank god. I thought you would hate me!" Island looked at her, puzzled.
"Why-" she was interrupted by Diamond.
"Okay, everybody. In order, I am going to call your names, and then you need to approach the door and search for your name. If you look closer, many names will be etched onto the door. If you can't see your name, then you don't have a bonded unicorn inside, and then you have to go home. If you do see your name, then enter the hatchery, and wait in the room that is there. Do you all understand?" Everyone nodded.
"Okay, let's begin. Nathaniel crosser." She said as a dark haired boy stepped forward to search for his name. After a couple of minutes he opened the door and stepped inside. "Howard rant." A old looking boy stepped forward proudly, as if he knew he was going to get in. After some searching, and more. He turned around and started to walk down the hill, looking dejected. "Mavoirick reather." The boy in front of Agnes stepped forward, and Agnes eyed him. He was a muscly, tall boy, with jet black hair.
"Ohhhh, he's sorta cute." Island whispered in her ear from behind her.
"I have to agree." Agnes whispered back.
Mavoirick stepped forward boldly, but still a little heasitantly. He searched for his name on the mighty wooden door, and soon, he let out a sigh of relief and entered the hatchery.
Take a deep breath Agnes. This is the moment you have been waiting for your whole life. You can do it.
"Agnes Starbound." Diamond said as Mavoirick closed the door behind him with a thud.
Agnes stepped forward. Taking a deep breath. She walked to the door and searched for her name. After a lot of looking, she sighed, she couldn't see her name. As she was about to turn away, her eyes caught on something. In the far corner of the door, there was an underlined word that said, Mysticalas, and underneath that word it said Agnes. She let out her deep breath, her name was there. She opened the door and entered a dark chamber. The walls were made dark grey stone, with the element symbols etched into the it, coving the walls.
The door opened behind her again and Island entered.
"Agnes, we made it! We are now unicorn riders!" Island squealed.
"We are!" Agnes looked over at the corner of the room, where the two boys were standing.
"Do you two mind?" The dark haired boy, Nathaniel, grunted from the corner. Mavoirick looked shyly from out of the shadows as the door was opened again, this time another boy entered.
"Hello, everyone! My names Dylan!" He looked at the others expectedly.
"Oh, uh, my names Island." Island looked at Agnes
"I'm Agnes." She looked over at the boys at the corner. Nathenial just grunted
"I'm Mavoirick reather, and this is Nathaniel, Nate for short." Nate just glared at him.
After awhile, there was ten more people in the cave, one of them was Agnes's friends, Ivy. Agnes only knew 1 other from school and around town, Amba. Nicole was also in there, much to Agnes's relief, Nic waved to her and Agnes smiled back.
"Alrightly everyone! Follow me, we are now going to the bathing cave, there I will explain what you have to do." As the small group followed their instructor into a tunnel at the back of the cave. As they reached the end of the tunnel, there were gasps from everyone, except Nate. The room was lit up with glowing mushrooms and glow worms at the top of the cave, and their glow lit up the room, revealing many several unicorn eggs below, tucked into large nests and crevices.
"Ha, it's beautiful, isn't it?" As everyone nodded, except Nate, she continued. "If you all close your eyes for a second, you should be able to feel the bond inside you. When you can feel the tugging and pulling, follow the pull, and you will find your egg. When you have found it, pick it up and hurry to the rooms at the back of the cave, then lock them behind you. Trust me, you don't want a baby unicorn running around. Wait to open the door until you have the lead and halter. Okay, go find your unicorn!"
She chuckled as all the kids started to run around, except Nate, who was walking around slowly.
"Agnes!" Diamond called out to her.
"Yeah?"
"Don't be surprised if your unicorn talks to you."
"Uhh, okay?" She raised an eye brow and walked away, stopping a few steps later to feel the pull of her bond. Soon she walked to the edge of the hatchery room. The bond tug got stronger, she saw a beautiful galaxy coloured egg, and she knew it was hers. She picked it up and hurried to a room at the back of the cave, passing Island, who had just found her egg. She closed the door behind her into darkness. Just as she set down her egg, it started to crack.
What do I do? She asked herself
Suddenly, a light turned on, and she jumped. A torch was now flickering peacefully in the corner, and Agnes got a look at the room she was in. It was filled with egg shells, pilled high, reaching the roof. If there was ever anything to see on the wall, it was impossible to make out. The egg cracked again and Agnes placed her hand on it.
After about a minute, a beautiful, pure black unicorn came out, letting out little neighs and growls. Agnes gasped, she was beautiful. Her coat was all black, with the ends of her mane and tail were a creamy white, and her fluffy feet were grey and white. The tips of her ears were dark blue, and as she opened her eyes, they were blue, her horn was grey and her wings were shades of light and dark grey. But the thing that made her the most amazing unicorn she had ever seen was her blaze. As the little thing lifted her head, her blaze was the outline of a falcon, and the colour was a fiery red and orange. Tentatively, she reached out and stroked her blaze, she was so very soft! The little unicorn let out a nicker, and Agnes closed her eyes. She knew her unicorn's name, and she knew it was a girl. As she opened her eyes again, the foal tried to stand up, and nearly fell before Agnes caught her. As the unicorn sat back down, she lifted her hoof up. Agnes looked at her, puzzled, then she heard a voice in her head.
Just put your hand up against my hoof.
She looked around, before realising that the sound came from her unicorn.
Don't be surprised if your unicorn talks to you. So that's what Instructor Diamond meant, Mysticalas must be able to talk to their unicorns.
Agnes lifted her hand up to press it against the hoof and, together, they both closed their eyes. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her hand, the hand that was against the hoof. Agnes opened her eyes and took away her hand. There was a bloody red mark, shaped like a unicorns hoof. She tore her gaze away from it and looked at her unicorn. She raised one eyebrow and the unicorn looked innocently at her.
"You did this?" She asked, expecting an answer, but none came. "Come on, let's go out." She picked up the lead and halter, and tried to put it on her bonded animal, instead her unicorn decided to eat it. "No," she said to her, but nothing happened.
"I can call you by your full name." She warned. "Well, okay, you asked for it. Moon-fire falcon." Moon-fire perked her ears up at that and stopped chewing on the lead. Agnes put the halter on her and opened the door. "You ready?" The unicorn Walked out in front of her, as if Agnes was taking too long, and she got pulled out of the room. As they entered the light, she squinted as her eyes adjusted. Two other people were out in the cave, Agnes recognised them as Amba and Mavoirick, as well as Diamond. When they saw Moon-fire Falcon their jaws dropped. Amba's unicorn, who was a rusty coloured filly, squealed when she saw Moon-fire, and they both rushed up to each other, dragging their riders along with them.
"Uh, hey Amba." Agnes said, a bit awkwardly. "This is Moon-fire falcon"
Amba nodded down to her unicorn, and smiled sweetly. "That's Gleaming-echo."
"Agnes!" A voice said behind her, and she whirled around.
"Hey Nic." Nicole came up to her sister.
"Who's your little devil?" She asked.
"Oh, excuse me, Moon-fire Falcon is not a devil!" She exclaimed. But, as if to prove her wrong, Moon left her playing with Gleaming-echo, walked over to the pair and farted on Agnes's leg.
"I take that back." Agnes muttered and Nicole started to laugh.
