WESTON LOCKE
Micah spent the rest of the morning on the sofa, diving into a thriller book that I bought a few summers ago, not that I had even turned the first page but at least someone was enjoying it.
I had spent the majority of the morning on the phone to my lawyers, then getting involved with the police and collecting as much evidence and information as I could on my laptop. Micah kept asking if he could help but I didn't want him to be involved in this anymore, this was my problem to sort out.
He didn't deserve to be in the middle of all of this. I could sense it was affecting him, we both knew it but he tried his hardest not to let it show.
The police station had rang and asked if I could pop down with my lawyer to declare my statement and submit all the evidence we had collected together.
Micah stretches out across the sofa and places the book down onto the coffee table. He watches me pack away my laptop and numerous papers. "Are you done?" He questions as he presses his glasses further up his nose.
"Not yet," I shake my head. "I've got to head to the police station to give my statement and everything."
"Oh," he says as he pushes himself up from the sofa and takes a step closer. "Now?"
"Yeah," I nod as I reach for my jacket. "You'll be alright here?"
"I want to come with you," his voice is determined.
"Micah, I might be there for ages," I shake my head as I push my arms into the holes of my jacket.
"But I don't want to be alone here," he tells me as he meets me by the kitchen island. "And besides, you waited for me at the station for hours when I had my interviews with the police. I want to return the favour."
A sigh leaves my lips and eventually I nod. "Okay," I agree. "But maybe you should bring the book to keep you entertained."
"Okay," he nods before walking back to the table and picking it up.
Darryl drops me a text that he's outside as Micah quickly puts on his shoes and jacket, following me out of my apartment and guiding us downstairs to the car.
"Do you not think they'll want to talk to me?" Micah asks as I open the car door and let him get in first.
I climb in after him and watch as his blue eyes watch me. "Maybe," I nod. "I guess you could explain what happened when she followed you to the Amazon lockers, and the deliveries."
"I'll be up for giving a statement to make this all go away," he shakes his head and I frown, hating that I had brought him into this.
My hand glides over the leather seat and grips onto his hand. "Thank you for wanting to help," I tell him. "I know how scary it must be to have experienced everything she's done."
"Like I said, I just want this to all go away so we can go back to not being terrified when I leave the house and I can go back to my own apartment," he sighs as he looks out the window.
My heart thumps heavily as I reach my other hand over to his face to turn it back to mine. "We're going to sort this out, alright? She's not going to get away with this, I don't care what I have to do."
Micah blinks back at me and nods. "I know," he tells me.
"It's gonna be alright," I say as I lean forward to press a kiss to his forehead.
Soon Darryl pulls up outside the station and I instantly unbuckle my seatbelt, Micah follows my lead. "You can wait with Darryl, if it'll make you feel safer?" I suggest but Micah shakes his head instantly.
"No, I want to come in with you."
"Okay," I agree as we both remove ourselves from the car and walk up the steps to the station.
My lawyer was already waiting for me in the foyer, introducing him to Micah and signing in. I give Micah a delicate kiss on the lips as I leave him alone in the waiting area, thick book in hand as he watches me walk towards an interview room with two police officers and my lawyer.
Praying that we could do something to sort out this messy situation.
. . .
Three hours later I was free to go, bringing Micah was a wise idea as they asked to see him. To give as much information as possible on his encounter with Micah, the pictures she took of him and the strange deliveries.
I could tell it had taken it out of Micah being back here, I didn't blame him. Talking and remembering scary memories aren't the best way to spend your Saturday.
But overall they had enough evidence to file a restraining order, if they could find her and bring her to court. So we got the best result we could ask for, even Micah seemed relieved which was all I wanted.
Darryl drops us home, the journey mostly silent but in a relaxed way.
I drop my keys down onto the kitchen island and turn myself to Micah. "I've sent round a locksmith to get new locks for your apartment," I tell Micah as he slowly removes his jacket from his arms.
"You did?" Micah raises an eyebrow at me.
My lips hum as I cup my elbows with my hands. "I also have a security company going over in a couple hours to set up some cameras that can be accessed from your phone."
"West," his eyes widen suddenly.
"I don't want to hear it," I shake my head before he can say anything else. "We need to ramp up the security and you best let Valentina know, then we can give her access to the cameras. I want you both to be safe, knowing she's been in your house haunts me Micah."
Micah's lip close and eventually he nods. "Okay," he says as he draws his phone out from his pocket. "I'll drop Vee a text and let her know."
I watch him for a few moments as he taps away at his screen, his eyes looked tired and the thought of having one day left of the weekend was crucifying me.
"Let's go to Cornwall next week," I say suddenly as Micah lowers his phone to narrow his eyebrows at me.
"Cornwall?" He repeats. "You mean like at the weekend?"
"No I mean take it off as annual leave, my friend has this unreal summer house that looks over the sea. I've been dying to go." My head nods as I take a step closer to him.
"But work? It's super late notice." His voice lowers before he shakes his head.
I shrug in his direction. "I'm the boss, what I say goes and I think we deserve some time away from work. Fred can cover me and Theo and Lauren can cover you."
"Really?" He questions sounding unsure. "I don't want to get in trouble."
My lips curve up into a tight smile, he looked so innocent and sounded so pure. "No one is going to tell us off Micah, I'm in charge and if anyone has a problem with it then they can talk to me. Not that their opinion matters in the slightest."
Micah's eyes flick between mine before he smiles brightly at me. "Okay, if you're sure it will be alright."
"Stop being so proper," I shake my head as I take two steps closer to him, reaching forward to cup the side of his face. "It'll be perfect for us to have some alone time, no work, no intruders. Just us. What do you think?"
"I'd love to West," he nods up to me, leaning up on his toes to kiss the edge of my chin. "A few days away does sound like the most perfect thing for us right now."
"I should try and book the place now, praying that it's not already booked up." I say as I pull away from Micah and reach for my laptop on the island.
I drag the laptop to the edge and perch down onto the stool, drawing up the screen. Micah stands behind me and rests his head onto my shoulder, peering over at the Google page I pull up.
Quickly typing in the name of the apartment website, bringing up the page. "Holy crap," Micah breathes out as he attempts to move closer. "That's the house?"
I turn my head to the side to look at him, bringing out a smile. "It sure is," I nod confidently.
"West that is going to cost a fucking fortune," he shakes his head in disbelief, eyes still glued to the screen.
"I don't care about the money," I tell him. "I just want to have a good time away with you."
"Are you sure?" His eyebrow dips in concern. "I'll have to dip into my savings."
My teeth stretch out across my lips as I watch him, leaning up to press a kiss to the edge of his jaw. "Don't be stupid, you don't need to pay for anything. This is my treat, after all the shit I've dragged you into. Think of it as compensation."
Micah's eyes roll playfully at the last word I speak. "Compensation," he repeats. "I don't want to sponge off you West."
"It's not sponging if it's a treat from me to you, I want to do this." I twist my body towards him and watch as he flicks his eyes between mine.
"Fine, then I'll pay for food and going out and things like that." He huffs dramatically.
"Deal," I beam up at him even though I knew I wouldn't make him pay for half the places that we visit.
"Okay," he breathes out a sigh of relief. "At least that's settled."
"Let me book it up," I say as I face the computer again and input the dates and timings.
"Would we go on Monday?"
I hum in response. "Give us a day to pack tomorrow, we can leave early Monday, stop off get some breakfast and then take the long drive down there, go by the beach and get some supplies."
"I've never been to Cornwall before," he sighs as he drops his head to my shoulder gently. "I've never really been out of Basingstoke apart from coming to London."
"Well," I move my arm to cup his back, forcing him to sit down on my lap. "You're going to love it, the most beautiful beaches. The sweetest little cottage pubs and breathtaking walks. It's the perfect place to get away from everything, there's like zero signal too."
"Hmmm," Micah nods as he leans forward to press his fingers to the track pad on the laptop. "Sounds amazing, I'm already excited."
My arms fully wrap around his torso and I press a kiss to the back of his shoulder. "You deserve it," I mumble into the fabric of his t-shirt.
"You do too." He says gently.
I inhale a deep breath and rest my head against his shoulder blade. "I'm so glad you're in my life Micah," I say honestly. "You have no idea how much I needed you, everything is so much better now that I get to see your face every day."
Micah's head turns towards me, his lips pursing at my words. "I'm glad you're in my life too," he responds. "This is always so surreal to me, I pinch myself everyday to make sure that I'm not in a dream."
My lips chuckle lightly as I softly pinch his forearm between my thumb and finger.
"Ouch," Micah laughs as he nuzzles his head into my neck. "You didn't have to demonstrate."
"Just proving to you that it's real."
"It's very real."
