flagstaff | chapter twenty one
"So, no training today. Right?" Dakota questions from where she's laying in the grass next to Sam. He grins at her and shakes his head.
"Nah. You're getting good and I think we both need a break." He shrugs. "Besides, I want to spend some time with you." Dakota blushes slightly as Sam reaches his hand out and touches her cheek.
"Well I'm glad, I mean what kind of boyfriend would you be if you didn't?" Dakota winks making Sam chuckle slightly as he grins at the word; boyfriend.
"A pretty terrible one." He admits, shuffling slightly so he's leaning back on his hands. "What do you want to do today? Tomorrow we're going onto shooting, so make the most of the fun this day will be."
Dakota narrows her eyes as she thinks over what she'd like to do, grinning when she finally thinks of something. "I want to play mini golf." She states, Sam raises his eyebrows and grins.
"Oh, it's on." He smirks, standing up from the grass and holding a hand out for Dakota to take. She grabs onto his hand and squeals as he pulls her up from the ground and they head back inside.
"Let me just get dressed and I'll be right out." Dakota smiles, walking into the bedroom. She grabs a pair of black high waisted shorts, a white vest top and a black and white plaid shirt. She puts it on, tucking the vest top into the shorts and leaving her shirt unbuttoned then pulls on a pair of boots and braids her hair.
Dakota waltzes out of the bedroom and crashes right into the other teenager in the building. "Woah!" Sam chuckles, catching her. "You're in a hurry."
"Sorry." She grins sheepishly. "You ready to go?"
"I was born ready, Quinn." Sam winks before heading to the door, Dakota laugh and follows him out.
They walk until they find the mini golf course and Sam pays the small entry fee, glad he has enough. They get their clubs and balls, Sam's red and Dakota's blue, and head onto the course.
The couple laugh and play all afternoon. Sam often gets a hole in one, while Dakota somehow manages to keep failing miserably and getting her ball as far away from the hole as humanly possible.
"Wow I suck." Dakota laughs as they look at the score sheet half way through the course.
"Yeah, well not everyone is a pro." Sam grins. Dakota glares at him. "You want help?"
"Yes." Dakota pouts, hating the fact that she is apparently terrible at mini golf. "This is the first time I've played this." Sam laughs and shakes his head at her.
"Really? I go quite often, Dean used to take me loads while Dad was off on a hunt." Sam explains as he helps Dakota hold the club correctly, swinging her arms gently and hitting the ball right into the hole on the first attempt.
Dakota squeals in excitement and spins around pressing her lips to his in excitement. "I did it!" She exclaims happily. "I actually did it! I mean, you helped, but I did it!"
"Well done, Kota." Sam laughs as he takes his own shot, also getting a hole in one.
So they continue like that for a while, both getting hole in one's almost every time.
Finally they arrive at the final hole and Sam helps Dakota with her turn. But at the last minute a loud squawking sounds in the distance causing them to slip up and hit the ball further than they expected and fall the the ground laughing.
"Oops." Dakota laughs loudly as she sits up. "I really wasn't expecting that!"
"Yeah, neither was I." Sam agrees with a chuckle. "But today has been great." He tells her, smiling widely. "I love you, Kota."
Both teenagers stand up, looking around the course, families are laughing and playing happily. There's the occasional fighting of siblings, but the atmosphere is light and happy.
"I love you too, Sammy." Dakota smiles, leaning into him slightly, her eyes fluttering closed as they lean towards each other. Sam captures her lips in a hungry kiss and Dakota melts into it happily, taking in the warmth of his chapped lips. She reaches to link their hands together; while Dakota's hands are soft and delicate, Sam's are hardened by fighting and shooting. But Dakota couldn't be happier.
Their kiss is interrupted by teasing cheers and laughter. The teenagers quickly pull apart, blushing profusely at the unwanted attention. They turn to see a group of other teenagers grinning at them and burst out laughing.
"Get a room!" One of the boys teases with a wink while his companions all laugh.
"Yeah, yeah. Shut up." Dakota calls back with a small chuckle.
"Come on, let's go." Sam grins, sending a playful wink towards the group as they leave, making Dakota hit him on the chest softly.
"Oi!" She scolds playfully. "Don't give them any ideas!" They both laugh and walk off, giving their clubs to the person at the desk.
"Sorry, Buttercup, but I was indulging them." Sam chuckles, putting his arm around Dakota's shoulders and pulling her into him.
"Not funny." Dakota states, trying to sound firm but her laughter gets the better of her and she fails at convincing Sam she didn't find it funny.
"Sure, Blondie." Sam shakes his head. "Sure it wasn't. Because that's why you're laughing." Dakota glares at him as they walk, but can't help the smile that finds it's way to her lips.
"You're still infuriating, Samantha." Dakota states.
"And you love me for it."
"Course I do."
