The Party - Mary POV
"Mary..." It can't be later than 7am, and someone is saying my name creepily into my ear. I sigh and open my eyes as someone was shaking my shoulder. "Mary..." As I look up I can see Nadine on the bed on top of me. Oh, right. Nadine is staying in my house. I slowly sit up, moving carefully as though Nadine would snap and beat me up if I startled her. That really wouldn't be good. "We're going to a party tonight." Nadine told me as I woke up more. I frowned slightly, looking down. I know there wouldn't be anyone who wanted me there, and they'd probably attack me for just showing up.
"I-I can't..." I stuttered, nervously shaking my head. Nadine raises her eyebrow at me, slightly confused. Did she forget that she made me possibly the most hated person in school?
"It's a masquerade party, dummy!" She snapped, hitting me around the back of the head. I whimper and move my hand to where she'd hit me. She seems surprised, hugging me. "I'm sorry for hitting you." She tells me quietly. She didn't apologise for calling me a dummy, but this is the best I've ever had from her so I'm just gonna take it. I sigh quietly.
"Maybe going for an hour wouldn't hurt..." I say softly. Nadine smirks and gets up, going to my wardrobe. I sit and watch her sorting through my clothes, getting nervous by the frown on her face.
"Seriously? You have no style at all. Come on, we have to get you a decent dress to wear tonight." She says, walking back. She grabs my hand and pulls me out of bed quite harshly. I decide to just do what I'm told, knowing that'll keep her happy and hopefully stop her hurting me.
Nadine keeps a firm hold of my hand as she pulls me around the shopping centre, hoping to avoid all of her friends. I don't blame her, knowing she wouldn't want to be seen dead anywhere near me. She drags me into a store towards the dresses. She lets go of my wrist and begins looking through the dresses for something she likes. I stand shyly and watch her, rubbing my sore wrist. It hurts from Nadine dragging me around the shopping centre. She comes back after a few minutes, holding two dresses.
"Here. Go try these on." She tells me, grabbing my wrist again and pulling me towards the changing rooms. I have no choice but to try them on, even though they are the exact opposite of what I feel comfortable wearing. I go into a small changing stall to change into the first of the dresses, the nicer of the two in my opinion. I step out, holding my arms around me tightly. "Hmm... yeah, that'll do." Nadine says as she looks at me in the dress. I sigh with relief and go back into the changing room to get changed.
That night is the party. Nadine did my hair and makeup, using the mask she'd brought me to hide my face to hopefully prevent people attacking me at the party. She walks with me as we head into the party. I look around anxiously, deciding to stay near Nadine the whole time. Unfortunately for me, we end up being separated. I want to find her again, and I don't even know why. Maybe I managed to trick my mind into believing she wouldn't let me get hurt tonight. I know she won't do anything to defend plain old me.
As I walk around the party I walk into a room with a few of Nadine's closest friends inside, including Esme and Natalia. They walk over, Natalia shutting the door behind me and blocking my escape. I guess they could see past the mask.
"Look what the cat dragged in." Esme said sarcastically, pulling the mask from my face. I freeze up, feeling tense. They now know who I am. Esme grabs my shoulders and forces me down on to the sofa, pinning my shoulders to it.
"You know you should be dead right now, but don't worry... we'll do the job for you." Natalia smirked. I whimper as she grabs a full bottle of what appears to be vodka and walks over to me. Esme holds my mouth open so Natalia can pour the vodka down my throat and make me drink it. That's all I remember before the alcohol causes me to black out.
