Plans and Seeing Him

Diya's POV:

I looked at the massive piece of paper, the guy had long hair. His name was written in dark black like very dark black so I read it. After me and Inaya kept the photos and the massive piece of paper back in the drawer, closing the drawer and then we went out, closing the light. We knew that we weren't supposed to go into one of our elders' rooms and be nosy but in all fairness, we blame Inaya for being worried about a bill. Did you know that apparently light costs?

Once we were in our room, Inaya got out some paper and a crayon.

Oh and there was no treats in the room. I think I need to have a serious conversation with bade dadu and choti dadu.

Inaya: so what was his name and how do you spell it?

Me: his name was.....um....

Inaya: did you forget?

Me: no, my head just has a lot of stuff in it! Now let me think.

Inaya rolled her eyes at me as I tried to remember.

Me: I remember.

Inaya: okay, tell me.

Me: O-m-k-a-r-a

Inaya started writing then looked at me again.

Me: kya?

Inaya: surname?

Me: is it really important?

She gave me a look. I may be older but that girl makes me do everything. Last I checked, isn't it supposed to be the older one to boss their siblings around?

Me: surname is M-e-h-t-a.

Inaya once again wrote it down. Once it was all written down, I said: now we can convince Miss Chocolate.

Inaya: don't start yelling at her.

Me: I won't. I'm so sanskaari you know. I always behave, I never back answer. I am such a good girl.

Again Inaya rolled her eyes at me. I am sanskaari. Really. It's just sometimes the only way I can express the way I feel about someone is by talking and maybe nearly losing my temper.....hmmm, maybe I am not that sanskaari.

But if needed, maybe I would need to yell or throw a tantrum. After all if this guy is our dad, then maybe that witch Kamini would stop teasing us.

Suddenly we heard footsteps. Inaya hid the paper underneath the pillow and we quickly changed into our pyjamas. I know we are very clever and very quick.

Mummy: hey girls.

Me and Inaya: mummy!

Mummy: what were you two up to?

Me: kuch nahi.

Mummy: then why was you taking long?

Inaya: bass aisi.

I am so proud of my sister right now for telling a little white lie. Now I know that lying isn't good. It's just sometimes in life, it is necessary to lie. See I am such a good girl.

Mummy: accha, chalo phir. Your bade dadi made you two dinner.

Me and Inaya smiled as we went out. Our mummy just looked at us with some confused look on her face but then she came with us.

As we were eating dinner, I had to whisper something to Inaya.

Me whispering: remember that paper.

Inaya whispering: I'll get it when we get our stuff to go home.

Me whispering: good.

Bade dadi: what are you two whispering about?

Me: kuch nahi badi dadi. We just talking about how annoying Miss Chocolate is.

Mummy: Diya, for the millionth time, it's Miss Chaturvedi.

Me: but mummy, I can't even say Miss Chaturvedi.

Mummy: but Diya, you just said it.

Me: no I didn't.

Mummy: yes you did.

Me: mummy, I am a kid. I know what I said and a kid is always right.

Mummy rolled her eyes with a smile on her face. After dinner, we quickly went upstairs with our schoolbags so that we could keep our school uniforms in them. Whilst doing that, Inaya got the paper from the pillow, neatly folded it and kept it in her bag. Now Mr Might Be Our Dad.....time to meet you soon...hopefully, we can pray.

Diya's POV ends

Gauri was waiting along with the Oberois for Diya and Inaya to come.

Pinky: do you wants us to picks Diya and Inaya tomorrows?

Gauri: if that's okay, yes.

Tej: of course it is.

Shakti: are the girls blabbering a lot when they're at home?

Gauri: so much. Diya mostly. But they talk so so much.

Jhanvi: you need an afternoon off, just an afternoon with no one biting your head.

Voices: hey!

The adults turned their heads to see that the twins were on the stairs, backpacks on their bags and their arms on their waists.

Diya: we're not that annoying.

Inaya: well I'm not, Diya is.

Diya: I'm not annoying. I just like talking and last I checked talking is my birth right.

Gauri smiled and they all bid adieu to the Oberois then they all left. As they were in the car, Gauri was thinking about how Diya said 'talking is my birth right'. Her brain brought back a distant memory.

It was before Om and Gauri even loved each other or even married or before Kaali Thakur took Gauri from her home....She and Om had their Tom and Jerry kinda fight.

Om: you talk too much. Is there even an off switch on you?

Gauri: why are you getting so affected if I talk?

Om: because your voice is giving me a headache.

Gauri: so what? I don't care.

Om: stop talking please I beg!

Gauri: oh hello, talking is my birth right, you can't take away my right to talk.

Om just mimicked her. The two rolled their eyes at each other, annoyed.

Diya: mummy?

Inaya: mummy?

Diya: mummy?!

Gauri: hmm kya?

Diya: we were talking about how stupid school is and you wasn't saying anything.

Inaya: is everything okay mummy?

Gauri: haan babies everything is okay.

Even after 5 years, Om still managed to come into her mind. He came with no warning. He just tiptoed in her mind when he got the chance.

If he could easily come into her mind then couldn't he come back to her life? Did she come into his mind in the last 5 years? Did he ever give her a single thought or....did she just not exist for him anymore? No phone calls. No text messages. Not even a letter when she was staying in the Oberoi Mansion....he sent nothing.

Maybe he was making it clear that she didn't simply exist for him anymore.

It's funny how you can actually think that you mean something to someone and then they just turn around and prove you wrong, stepping on your heart and shattering it into a

Maybe he forgot all about their relationship, their marriage, the bond that held them together. And here Gauri was, clinging on to a glimmer of hope. For how long was she going to hold on to that piece of hope? It's been 5 years already.

Gauri turned the car into the driveway and then soon, the girls went out of the car.

Gauri: time for bed girlies.

Inaya shook her head whilst Diya opened her small mouth to debate.

Diya: no, I don't want to go to sleep. Sleep is for babies and me and Inaya aren't babies. We are big girls.

Gauri: big girls? Really?

Diya: haan, we have a job that sadly doesn't pay but we still have a job.

Gauri: a job? And what job is that Diya?

Diya: school. School is a job and only big people can have a job, so me and Inaya are big girls and we don't need sleep. Sleep is only for babies.

Gauri: theek hai. If you and Inaya are big girls then I need to fold some clothes now big girls do chores don't they?

Diya and Inaya looked at each other and started to speak in a language only twins would understand. Then they looked at their mother.

Diya: I feeling sleepy. Right Inaya?

Inaya: same.

Diya: we should go to sleep after all we are very little girls and it is important for us to sleep.

Gauri just chuckled as the girls went upstairs.

Gauri: make sure to brush your teeth and wash your face!

Diya: already was going to do that!

Gauri again chuckled as she went to the room where she kept the laundry. She started folding the clean laundry, a smile on her face as she was thinking of her two little angels....well people have said that Diya is a little devil but for Gauri, her both girls were two angels. They were angels to her because they were symbols of faith, hope, innocence, purity and strength.

It was the next day now, Gauri had already freshened up herself, made sure the twins had gotten ready for the day and she had fed them now she was driving them to school. Little did she know, the twins had something cooking up in their brains.

Gauri: you two are awfully quiet especially you Diya.

Diya: I can be quiet if I want to. It's not a crime.

Gauri: you and your sharp tongue.

Diya: how is my tongue sharp? I haven't used a pencil sharpener.

Gauri: good and I don't want you to use a pencil sharpener on your tongue, Inaya that goes to you too.

Inaya nodded.

Diya: okay mummy. We are very clever mummy.

Gauri: I know. We're here at school. Have a good day. Inaya, make sure your sister behaves herself.

Diya: I am very sanskaari mummy. Chill.

Inaya: she is not sanskaari.

Gauri: I know she isn't.

Diya: jeez you two are rude.

They all laughed as the girls went out of the car and went into their school. Once they were in the school, the twins were searching for Miss Chaturvedi. Where was their teacher?

Diya: I don't think it is responsible to leave a bunch of kids alone in a room.

Inaya: I agree.

Diya: see that kid running with pencils. I got a lot of talking to do with Miss Chocolate!

Inaya: stay to the point Diya.

Diya: urgh fine!

Miss Chaturvedi came in the classroom and as soon as she came in, she got the class to settle down. Diya wanted to talk right away but Inaya made her sit. After the register and explaining what subjects were going to be taught, Diya and Inaya finally had an opportunity to maybe get the man who could possibly be their dad to come to this place.

Diya: hi Miss Chocolate.

Miss Chaturvedi: hi dear.

Diya: me and Inaya have found a way to save our art lesson.

Miss Chaturvedi: really?

Inaya: haan.

Miss Chaturvedi: how may I ask?

Diya: there is a man who is a very well known art teacher and he is called....Inaya, what's his name?

Inaya went to her schoolbag and brought out a piece of paper then went back to her sister and teacher, reading the paper...

Inaya: Omkara Mehta!

Miss Chaturvedi: Omkara Mehta? Okay....

Diya: he is a very well known art teacher in Goa, very talented, makes higher art students pass with full marks. Loves little kids and loves to teach them art. He is happy to be a substitute in any city. It was in a newspaper.

Miss Chaturvedi: so you can read a newspaper but when I tell you to read one small book of only 5 pages, then you throw a tantrum?

Diya: I like to read what I want to read. Those 5 pages books are useless. Bekaar.

Miss Chaturvedi: thank you Diya for your valuable opinion.

Inaya: so do you think you can contact Omkara Mehta for our art lesson?

Miss Chaturvedi: I don't think I....

Diya interrupting: please Miss Chocolate, you are so sweet just like chocolate. Why else do you think I call you Miss Chocolate? You are the world's best best best teacher. Please get Omkara and I promise I will never ever EVER talk too much. I will listen, pakka promise!

Miss Chaturvedi: you will listen and not talk much?

Diya: haan.

Inaya smacked her forehead. She knew for a fact Diya was more than incapable of actually listening to their teacher and talking less. Lord knows why Diya was emotionally blackmailing their teacher. A good question would be where did she learn all this drama from? Oh wait endless dramatic 80s films and saas-bahu serials. Yeh ladki bhi na....

Miss Chaturvedi: so will you not fight with Kamini?

Diya: haan....

Inaya knew for a fact that promise would be broken.

Miss Chaturvedi: you will listen when we do our ABCDs?

Diya: haan.

Miss Chaturvedi: you will not start randomly singing some Bollywood song in the middle of my class?

Diya: haan promise.

Miss Chaturvedi: and you will do the reading I give you?

Diya: haan....

Inaya knew that Diya would pretend to read.

Miss Chaturvedi: fine I will contact this man. I need to search up the school he works at so I can contact him.

Inaya and Diya: yay!

Miss Chaturvedi: now please go so I can do your job.

Inaya and Diya nodded then walked off happily.

Diya: step 1 completed.

Inaya: now let's hope that he agrees to come.

Diya and Inaya sat in their seats and Miss Chaturvedi started to teach the kids how to make cards for their fathers. Diya and Inaya of course couldn't join the task since they didn't even know if the long hair guy was their father. So the girls were just colouring in the colouring books that their class kept. Once Miss Chaturvedi was done helping students, she went on her laptop. Diya and Inaya knew that she would be trying to find Omkara Mehta....

At that moment, Kamini went up to them. Diya resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Kamini said: see my card loser, it is so nice. My dad will love it.

Diya: I'm sure he will (in mind) chipkali, a monkey can make a nicer card.

Inaya in mind: don't get angry Diya.

Kamini: where is your card for your dad? Oh wait! You don't have a dad, how sad!

Diya: hmmm, Kamini, I am not in the mood to talk to you so do us both a favour and kindly leave.

Inaya in mind: is this even Diya? The Diya I know would have slapped Kamini.

Kamini: fine whatever loser.

She left, flicking her hair.

Diya's POV:

That Kamini chipkali.....I HATE HER! God, why did you have to make Kamini exist? She is such a pain!

Inaya: you didn't slap her. Well done.

Me: if I did then Miss Chaturvedi would be horrible. Trust me once I find out Mr Long Hair's truth then I will be back to fighting Kamini back!

Inaya: oh Diya....you are impossible.

Me: I know!

Soon school was over, bade dadu picked us up and we were both waiting for tomorrow to come.

Me: why does tomorrow take forever to come?

Par dadi: why do you want to know?

Me: because I do!

Inaya: same!

Choti dadi: tomorrows just takes its times.

Me: shouldn't take too long!

They all laughed and at that moment, mummy came.

Mummy: are they troubling you guys?

Bade dadi: of course not.

Mummy: okay, I am going to make dinner for everyone. Diya, Inaya, don't trouble your elders.

Inaya: yeah Diya!

Diya: you two can be rude!

Mummy rolled her eyes as everyone left. She went to the kitchen and me and Inaya continued to pray for tomorrow to come quickly.

Soon we were at our own home, turns out mummy had an afternoon off tomorrow so she would pick us up...maybe she would be able to meet our dad! Well hopefully our dad!

It was late at night, I couldn't sleep.

Me: Inaya!

Inaya: kya?

Me: I can't sleep.

Inaya: same yaar.

Me: I wonder if that guy is coming tomorrow.

Inaya: if he doesn't come phir...

Me: phir Kamini will forever annoy us.

Inaya: Diya?

Me: yeah.

Inaya: do you think our dad has ever met us like when we were babies?

Me: maybe, you never know.

We looked at each other, I knew that she was praying like me, praying for Omkara Mehta to be our dad...hmm Diya Mehta, that sounds cute!

In the morning, me and Inaya were already awake and ready for school....yes I am fully aware that it is very weird for me especially to be awake early. Mummy was busy making breakfast when she said aloud: Diya! Inaya!

Us two: already here!

Mummy looked away from breakfast and her jaw dropped. I wonder why.

Mummy: wow, my girls are already ready. Am I dreaming?

Inaya: nahi.

Me: mummy, let's have breakfast and drive us to school jaldi se jaldi.

Mummy: you out of all people are excited for school? Never thought I would live to see this day.

Me: I am really excited for school so don't give us too much breakfast and eat quickly people.

Mummy: Diya Kumari Sharma, in this house, I am the boss.

Inaya: exactly!

Me: dream on mummy! In this house, I am the CEO.

Mummy: Inaya, is your sister the CEO here?

Inaya: nahi mummy, you are.

I rolled my eyes as mummy gave us our breakfast. In this house and in the elders' house, I am the CEO. I think I will be a CEO of a company one day. You can just boss people around! That sounds fun doesn't it?

Soon we were at school, sadly mummy took time getting ready. I told her to hurry up. I bet you she was trying to annoy me. But finally she was done and took us to school.

Inaya: is he here?

Me: nahi....where is this man? Did Miss Chocolate even contact him?

Inaya: she better have!

Miss Chocolate came at that point. She came in front of the whiteboard and said: children, today we have a cover teacher for our art lesson this morning. So Mr Mehta will be covering your art lesson thanks to Inaya and Diya.

At that moment, a man entered the classroom. He looked exactly like the photos me and Inaya saw....tall, long hair, black eyes, tanned type skin...he was there, he was really there. He came. Miss Chocolate, God bless you.

He looked at me and Inaya with a smile....the smile looked a bit like Inaya's and mine. Looking at this guy, I felt something...something I felt when I was with mummy, I felt this parent-child connection with the long hair man. I don't know if Inaya felt it but I did. There was just something....something special. This Omkara dude had to be our dad.
