Chapter 8 - Time Flew By

Time flew by when hanging out with Sophie and the guys; it's now been about an hour, and the party was still in full swing. I've been drinking with Shane, Greg and Sophie and slowly getting to know them. It's so much easier to meet people and get to know them when drinking, I swear.

We've danced, we've drank and we've played some drinking games. We were now chilling on some loungers by the pool, with drinks in our hands. I managed to see Harvey for a total of 5 minutes so far; I saw him as he was dancing with a girl on the designated dance floor. Sophie and the guys mentioned that the couple were often on and off, and it seemed like they were back on again.

Normally, I'd be pissed off that he invited me here to spend time with him and then ditched me for someone else, but I've been having fun. Almost as much fun as I used to back in New York with my friends.

"Ambs what are you doing here?" asked a voice that was right behind me. I recognised that voice; it was Dylan. I tuned around to face him; he was wearing a flannel shirt with a black t-shirt underneath, a pair of black jeans and trainers.

"Hey Dyl! Everyone, Dyl is here!" I stood up and gave him a light hug. Whenever I was under the influence, I was a hugger and there was nothing I could do about it. He seemed a bit awkward at first but I did feel him relax after a while, and that was obviously because I'm a great hugger.

"You seem happy! What are you doing here? I thought you were having a night in with mum" he pulled away from the hug and held me at arm's length whilst still having his hands on my shoulders.

"My friend Harvey texted me to meet him here so I came" I smiled at him. He looked so cute, my little cous Dyl.

"Oh so when I try to get you to come, you don't want to but the moment this Harvey dude texts you, you come running here. I see how it is" Dylan joked. Just then I noticed some guys hanging around behind Dylan and listening to our exchange.

"Oh hello there Dylan's friends! I'm Amber, his favourite cousin, and you are?" I asked, waving at them.

"This is Paul, Chris and Ben" Dylan pointed to each of the boys, but I won't lie I won't remember any of the names or faces in a few minutes anyway, so I didn't really pay attention. "That's nice Amber" chuckled Dylan.

Did I say that out loud? Oh well it's not like he didn't know that I wasn't always polite. I pick up my cup, and when going for a sip I realise it's empty. I pout in disappointment. I really wanted a sip.

"Do you want a refill Ambs?"asked Dylan. I nodded and he took the cup from my hand. I told him what I wanted and sat back down on the lounger.

"How do you know Dylan?" asked Sophie, smiling widely and shaking her legs with excitement.

"He's my cousin, you know the one I mentioned I live with now" I said, looking at her. Damn I'm jealous of her hair, it's so straight and I bet it's low maintenance whereas mine is so thick and curly, it's so much work to make it look good.

"No way! Now I'm definitely sure we should be friends! He's so hot! Do you know if he has a girlfriend?" She seems quite eager for Dylan and I'm not even offended by her comment on us being friends.

"I have no idea but it doesn't seem like it. You want me to introduce you?" I offered, as I saw Dylan coming back to us. She nodded her head, smiling but the moment he was next to me and handed me my filled cup, I could tell she was becoming shy.

"Thanks cous. So how come you're here? You know anyone here or are you just that popular that you get invited everywhere?" I joked, leaning my arm on Sophie's shoulder.

"This is actually my buddy's house and his party, but I haven't seen him in a while" Dylan said, and looked over at Sophie questioningly.

"Oh yeah, sorry, this is my friend Sophie, Sophie this is Dylan" I introduced the pair and stepped away from them. I joined Shane and Greg on the loungers to give the pair a bit of space to chat.

I realise I wasn't the most subtle when I introduced them and left them straight after, but it is what it is.

"You have no idea what you've done Amber" said Shane, looking over at Sophie and Dylan "She's been crushing on him forever, so I doubt she'll leave his side now that you've introduced them. You've got yourself a new cousin real quick" he joked, clapping his hands as he laughed.

"Stop that she's your friend!" exclaimed Greg, slapping Shane upside the head. I laughed at their antics, looking once again at Sophie and Dylan. They seemed to be getting on, which is a good sign.

"Oh it'll be fine. They either get on fine or they don't, and if they get on really, really well it won't really bother me since I'll probably be out of here by then" I said, muttering the last part but apparently not quietly enough.

"What do you mean you won't be here?" asked Greg, curiosity in his eyes.

"Umm did I say that..? I didn't mean to.." I started sputtering excuses, not knowing how I'm going to explain this one. Why am I such a chatter box after a few drinks? I need to learn how to keep my mouth shut when drinking.

I'm not sure whether it was a blessing or a curse, but at that exact moment, someone's hands covered my eyes. My vision turned black, and instead of panicking like I probably should have, I smiled. I liked the feeling of those hands on my skin. They felt kind of rough but soft at the same time. They felt comforting, like they would protect me from everything in the world.

Yep, I drank too much tonight.

"Guess who, cafe tease" whispered a voice into my ear.
