Chapter 18 - Sneaking Him Out

Sneaking him out of my room, and most importantly out of the house, has proven to be more challenging that I have anticipated. The house is a busy one in the mornings, and even though it's the weekend, this doesn't exactly mean much around here. With Olive and James being lawyers, they're always busy with cases, and Dylan always has football practice on Saturday morning for which he is now getting ready for.

This is exactly why Cyrus needs to leave the house as soon as possible, since he has that same football practice with Dylan. Yes, they are both on the football team, and no Dylan does not know that one of his closest friends has spent the night in his cousin's bed.

Oh dear this is a little bit of a mess.

"We need to time this right or I'll be late and coach will kill me!" Cyrus whispers whilst grabbing his shoe from the other side of the room. My room was a mess right now with clothes and my bedding being sprawled all over the floor after waking up to a panicked Cyrus who has realised that he fell asleep in bed with me and was late for training.

"So you've said about 10 times now but saying it more isn't exactly helping!" I hiss at him, frustration lacing my tone. "Why can't you just sneak out of the window, again? You know, the same way you came up here?" I ask him, not understanding his reasoning.

"Climbing down is a lot harder than climbing up, plus you cuddled me so much I had stiff muscles throughout the night. I can't risk jumping down the window now and getting an injury before the big game."

"You are such a cheeky little shit aren't you?" He is so damn cocky, I can't believe I let him up into my bedroom last night. Not only did he fall asleep in my bed, now I will get in trouble with Olive and James. I don't even want to think what Dylan would do if he found out. I shudder at the thought.

I pressed my ear against my bedroom door, trying to listen out for anyone who might still be on this floor. After not hearing a sound for a while, I signal Cyrus to come closer to the door as I slowly open it, praying that it won't creak like it usually does. Once the door is slightly ajar, I stick my head through the gap and look both ways before opening the door wider and leaving the room with Cyrus following behind me.

As we were tiptoeing towards the stairs and looking through each of the open doors into the bedrooms to make sure that they were indeed empty, we suddenly heard some footsteps coming up the stairs and onto the first floor.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit. This is it, we'll get caught, and I'll be grounded or maybe even sent back to New York to deal with my mother. And just when I was settling in so well.

My mind started working again and in a panic I pushed Cyrus into one of the empty rooms, which just to happened to be the bathroom. I followed him inside and locked the door behind me, hoping that whoever has decided to come upstairs doesn't need the bathroom.

We were both crouched, why I have absolutely no idea, it's not like anyone could see us with the door closed. However, we were both lost in the moment, hiding from my family and trying to prevent them from realising that Cyrus spent the night here.

My spy-themed thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the bathroom door. Yes, the bathroom we were currently in.

Cyrus looked at me with questioning eyes, wondering if I'm going to answer whoever has knocked.

"Let me in, I just need to grab my vitamins," came Dylan's voice from the other side of the door. We are so screwed.

"I'll bring them downstairs when I'm done okay?" I replied, hoping to the heavens that he'll let it go and leave.

"I need them now, I'm leaving for football practice and I'm running late."

"You're telling me." I hear Cyrus mutter quietly, making me shush him and put a finger up to my lips, signalling for him to be quiet.

"What? I can barely hear you." Dylan's voice travels through the bathroom door once again.

"I said I'm naked so look away and I'll pass you your stupid vitamins through a small gap alright?" I said, acknowledging the fact that giving Dylan his tablets is the only way to get rid of him.

"Yeah whatever just hurry up," he grumbled, clearly getting impatient with me. I turn around and start looking for his vitamins. I found them in the cabinet above the sink, I took a deep breath and headed back towards the door. Cyrus has been watching me, no let me rephrase that; he's been watching me whilst trying to hold back his laughter. I blame all of this on him.

"Okay turn around, I'm opening the door." I warned Dylan, not wanting him to peek inside and see one of his teammates and best friends in our bathroom, still not fully clothed due to us rushing to get him out of here. His jeans were unzipped, he only had one shoe on and his t-shirt was still in his hands.

He claimed that he can't sleep in his clothes and that was why he stripped down to his boxers in the middle of the night. Why he didn't just leave when he woke up is beyond me. If he did then we wouldn't be in this mess right now.

 He definitely owes me.

I open the door only slightly, leaving enough space for my arm to fit through it, and rattle the bottle of vitamins to catch Dylan's attention hoping that he's turned away. I feel his hand grabbing the bottle from my hands so I retract my arm and close the door quickly.

"Thanks Ambs!"

I breathe a sigh of relief as I hear Dylan's footsteps heading back towards the staircase which leads downstairs. I turn around to look at Cyrus, who is still crouching down very closely to the floor.

"Thank you so much tease, I'm pretty sure you just saved Cyrus junior from Dylan's wrath." He jokes, pulling his jeans zipper up, finally.

"Hey by the way!" We both look at each other with eyes wide as saucers as we hear Dylan shout from down the hall. Is he talking to me or to Olive and James? Why is he still here?

"Yeah?" I answer hesitantly, not sure if he really is talking to me.

"Ask Cyrus if he wants a ride to training!"

WHAT?!

"So you're telling me that Dylan knew that Cyrus was in the bathroom with you the entire time?"

"Yes! The idiot dropped a shoe on our way to the bathroom!" I exclaimed, although thinking about it I did push him into the bathroom so that part might have been my fault. But I won't tell Cyrus that.

"This is gold. I only wish I was there to see it" Shane laughed.

We were all currently sat in the same café where I met Cyrus for the first time. The moment Cyrus and Dylan left for training, I called Sophie and told her to meet me here and that it was urgent. For some reason she thought I was dying since she told the whole gang to come as well. By the whole gang, I mean Greg, Harvey and Shane.

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw the whole group taking up two of the tables and desperately wanting to know what the emergency was and what they can do to help.

And so here we are.

"Have you spoken to Dylan yet?"

"No, Cyrus rushed out as soon as Dylan said his name and I haven't seen either of them since. I don't even want to think about what's been said between them two" I put my palm against my forehead, graciously representing the face palm meme.

"Oh it won't be bad, don't be so dramatic. You're both adults and can do whatever you want" Harvey dismissed my worry straight away, waving his hand in a disregarding manner.

"You haven't seen him after my accident, he was a wreck, and nothing serious even happened to me" I remembered Dylan's worried face and several sleepless nights, after which I have found him on my bedroom floor several times. It was almost as if he was making sure that I was safe at all times.

"Well there's only one way to find out and you know it. You have to talk to him" Sophie's voice of reason rang in my ears. Looking up from my facepalm position, I see her taking a sit of her chocolate milkshake looking very smug.

"I guess you're right, I will. But enough about me, what's new with you guys?" I smoothly change the subject, although my mind is still reeling from this morning's events.

I don't know why I'm so worried about what Dylan will say. It's not like me and Cyrus did anything wrong, we simply fell asleep.

I have to admit though, this was one of the best sleeps I had in a very long time. For the first time in over two years I didn't have any nightmares or night terrors. No longer was the image of my dad implanted in my dreams. No longer was the tragedy haunting me in my sleep. No longer was I shaking, sweating and screaming in my drowsy state.

For the first time, in a very long time, I felt peaceful.

Another chapter done! I'm loving the fact that I have a bit more time to write again.

This week was not the best for me because I had to self-isolate for 10 days, as I was in contact with someone who was tested positive for Covid, but today is my last day of self-isolation and I couldn't be happier!

Have any of you had to self-isolate because you were in contact with someone with Covid? How did you spend your time? Let me know, just in case I'll need to self-isolate again in the near future :)

Please vote and comment

Until next time xxx
