Chapter Fifteen

As I made my way around my house, I wanted to scream. I couldn't find my phone, and I had to be at the Smith's house in three minutes. "Fine, whatever, I'll go without it!" I made my way to the door, clad in jeans and a comfy sweater. As I walked past, I found my phone on the couch. Where I remembered putting it. Five minutes ago.

Laughing, I walked out the door, tightening my ponytail. I was told we were going to see something, a movie or whatever, and I made sure to have my wallet tucked into my pocket.

Once I'd made my way across the street, I wandered up the little path to the door and wandered into the house. "Guys?" I walked to the living room, finding the three sitting and watching tv. Rick, oddly enough, was the first to acknowledge my presence. Shortly after I returned the smiled I'd been given, Summer and Morty turned to face me. "Hey, (Y/N)."

"Whaddup, my dudes?" I leaned over the back of the couch, "Havin' a cartoon marathon without me? How rude?" I feigned offense momentarily before standing again. "What's the deal for today?" It was a little past five now, later in the evening.

Summer and Morty stood up now, "W-We're gonna g-g-go see a movie after dinner." I shrugged, "Cool."

"Alright," Rick stood with a sigh, "let's get goin' if you urp little shits wanna see anything good." Summer, Morty, and I all followed Rick out the door, walking through the streets as the streetlamps came on all around us.

Halfway through the walk, I had wanted so badly to complain about how much my feet hurt, but I was highly paranoid at this point. I was glad when we reached our destination, finding myself once again at Maurice's. I smiled when I saw the booth Rick and I had sat in, staring at the claw machine almost directly behind it.

We were led to a booth on the other side of the restaurant, Summer sitting next to Morty and leaving me to sit beside Rick. "Okay," I mumbled, sitting on the outside. We ordered our drinks and I glanced over the menu, deciding I would go with what I had the last time and set the object down on the edge of the table. "So what exactly are we going to see?" I questioned. Rick leaned over and placed him menu on top of mine while Summer and Morty spoke behind their menus, laughing frequently.
"M-Morty said urp something about 'Guardians of the Galaxy' or whatever." Rick shrugged, leaning his chin on his fist as he stared at something I couldn't quite see. I sighed and sat back in the seat, folding my arms over my middle. I wanted to take a nap, but I figured that would be pointless to do in the restaurant, or in any eatery, for that matter. "I'll be right back," I stated, pushing myself up and wandering towards the restrooms.

I guess I should be used to how frequently I'd need to use the restroom at this point, but it was still annoying as can be. I checked myself in the mirror, adjusting my sweater around myself before I wandered from the bathroom.

"Why, if it isn't pretty lady herself." I felt my blood freeze as I turned, finding a man walking from the bathroom. He grinned maliciously at me before his gaze turned sinister. "Heard you got away. Such a shame. Haven't seen my friend in a while, too. Would you happen to know where he's at?"

I shook my head, shaking as I stared at this man. "I sure would like to know," he growled out. "Better watch yourself, pretty lady. Your boyfriend can't save you all the time." The man opened a switchblade and chortled quietly before he tucked the weapon away, walking out of the restaurant.

I wandered back to the table, sitting down silently. I remained that way through most of the meal, gaining worried glances from Rick mostly.

 *~*~*

The air was cooler as we made our way to the theater, walking down the streets. Summer and Morty were walking further up ahead, talking nonstop about what they expected from the movie.

"Are you alright?" I looked over, turning my gaze from the sidewalk. "You've been urp kinda quiet since you went to the bathroom," Rick clarified.

"I'm fine," I replied quietly, staring at the sidewalk again. "What did he say to you?"

"What?" I looked up again, stopping. Rick sighed, "I saw him walk out. I didn't urp think he saw you, but he apparently did. What did he say?" I stared almost in disbelief for a minute before sighing and continuing to walk, Rick following suit. "He asked me where his friend was, and told me I'd better be careful, that you can't save me all the time."

"I know you hate me," Rick grumbled. "But I won't let them do anything to you. I eugh said, before, that I wouldn't let them, and.. and I meant it. So go ahead and hate me all you want, but don't forget that."

I stared at the sidewalk, dumbfounded, as we made our way to the movie theater, walking the last few yards in silence.

*~*~*

The movie was hilarious, Chris Pratt playing his part quite well. But I simply could not stay awake much longer. Summer had sat with Morty two seats down from me, leaving me to sit beside Rick. They were doing something, that much was obvious.
I couldn't stay awake much longer, even when one of the more climatic scenes was playing. I wanted to, believe me. I wanted to see what happened to 'Star Lord', but sleep was calling my name. I yawned heavily and stretched as best I could in the plush chair, leaning my head back against the seat and folding my arms over my middle.

In a sleepy daze, just before I fell asleep, I leaned to my left and decided that Rick was a better pillow than the theater chair.

*~*~*

         "(Y/N)."

I furrowed my brow and sat up, finding that Rick had woken me during the credits. "Come on," Summer stated from beside him. She got ready to stand but I motioned for her to stay. "Hold on," I mumbled. "I might've fallen asleep, but it's a Marvel movie. Wait for the end scene." I yawned heavily as the other three laughed, waiting for the after credits scene. As it eventually played, Rick seemed more focused on me for whatever reason unknown to myself.
