chapter two
Thanks for all the positive feedback!!! I went into a deep depression after endgame so I understand all of your pain and I'm glad I can help!
Also let's pretend, for the story's sake, there's not 2 Steve's running around lol.
...
Steve had made the decision to stay in this timeline with Tony. He had been fighting all his life. He had saved the universe. He deserved this.
He slowly made his way back into the tower, searching for him. When he reached the living room, the lights were off and there was no sign Tony anywhere. Steve assumed he had gone to bed, and headed up to his own room.
Many memories came flooding back as Steve wandered through the tower, filling him with emotions. Life was often unkind to him, but the time spent with his team truly were like no other. They gave him something to fight for.
He reached his room and crawled into his bed. It didn't take long for him to doze off, but when he did painful flashbacks began to arise. He tossed and turned in his sleep, as he saw Tony on the battlefield, wielding the Infinity Stones. He could hear his last breath, and see the light go out from his eyes.
"Steve! Steve, wake up!" He opened his eyes to see Tony standing there above him, grasping his shoulders in his arms. "Are you alright? You were...calling my name out in your sleep." Steve sat up and tried his best to hide his burning cheeks. "I'm sorry, it was just a nightmare. I didn't mean to wake you."
"You know, I could stay here if you'd like." Steve softly smiled as he scooted over, making room for Tony. Tony curled up next to Steve, clearly establishing he'd like to be the little spoon. Steve took notice to this and wrapped his arms around his side, pulling him in close. The warmth of his body eased his anxiety, reminding him Tony was alive, here with him now.
"Goodnight, Rogers."
Steve slept better that night than he had in years.
...
When Steve woke, his arms were still wrapped around the smaller man. He looked at the clock and softly nudged him, "Tony, wake up." He rubbed his eyes, and slowly sat up, stretching his arms. "What time is it?" he mumbled. "Almost noon. Figured we better get up."
"Noon? I haven't slept like that in years." Steve shyly smiled, hoping this meant Tony would want to share a bed more often. "Hey, listen, about last night. I shouldn't have run off like that. I'm sorry. I just got scared, I guess." Tony grabbed his hand, interlocking their fingers.
"Don't worry about it. We can just take things slow, okay?" Steve placed a gentle kiss on his cheek, causing a slight blush to creep across his face.
