Harry's POV

The inside of Dr Smith's office resembled the therapist offices that I had often seen in films and television programmes. There was a grey couch in the corner of the room and motivational posters plastered over ever inch of exposed wall.

"Do take a seat," Dr Smith instructed to me and I awkwardly went over to the couch which looked like it would be uncomfortable.

There was a sense of boredom in his voice, and I could tell that behind his fake smiles he was truly tired of his job. It was almost as if he had given up being a therapist a long time ago, and instead was just someone that listened to people's problems.

"So Harold," I cringed when he used my full name, hating the way it rolled off his tongue, "I thought that in this session we could just get comfortable with each other. Create a safe space between us."

I kept my eyes firmly fixed on the floor, not wanting to make eye contact with him. I could tell that he was just regurgitating lines that he said to every patient, and that they really held no meaning. Dr Smith didn't seem like a man I could tell my deepest secrets to, in fact he was quite the opposite. He was the kind of man that you wouldn't even feel comfortable telling your full name to.

"I'm here for you," he said in a sympathetic tone, and I rolled my eyes at his words.

"Wow... Thank you so much!" I replied in a sarcastic tone, and met his gaze for a split second to see anger flash in his pupils before his unnerving calm resumed to take effect over him.

"Harry, I know you probably don't think you need to be here. But you do, if you carry on like this you'll-" he was cut off by a blaring noise that cut through the air like a knife, "That bloody fire alarm! Alright, we need to exit the building."

Dr Smith opened the door to meet a corridor full of running people and the smell of smoke infiltrated my nostrils. An employee passed us and Dr Smith tapped them on the shoulder; the woman turned around with a scowl on her face and exchanged a look with Dr Smith.

"Phoenix?" He asked and all she needed to do was nod before I felt the anger radiate off him.

After telling me to follow the crowd, I was herded outside where I was forced to stand around with complete strangers. Some people were crying but they were quickly silenced by nurses who told them that nothing bad had happened.

My eyes wandered over the crowd of people until they landed on one particular person who was smirking proudly as she watched people exit the building. Phoenix was still holding a lighter in her hand, almost as if she was proudly exclaiming that it had been her to set off the smoke alarms.

She caught my eye and smirked even more before walking over, coming to stand beside me and we watched as smoke billowed out of one of the chimneys.

"What did you do?" I asked her and she chuckled to herself.

"Set fire to yet another room, Smith has threatened that he's going to make me sleep in a swimming pool if I'm not careful so that I can't set fire to anything," she was nonchalant about the whole matter, and I could tell that this wasn't the first time or even the second time she had set fire to a room.

"PHOENIX!" Dr Smith charged out the building with ash on his cheeks and the colour drained from Phoenix's face.

"Hide me," she whispered and she quickly moved behind me, telling me to not reveal her location.

Dr Smith's eyes scanned around the crowd of people, but thankfully he skipped past me in a heart beat.

"She's here, Dr Smith," a girl beside me shouted, and Phoenix cursed under her breath.

"Fuck you mad Jane, I never liked you anyway," Phoenix spat as she came out of her hiding place with flushed red cheeks as everyone stared at her.

Dr Smith began to walk towards us as fast as he could, and although Phoenix was crossing her arms over her chest and raising an eyebrow, I knew that she was scared of him and what punishment she would receive for her actions.

"That's seven rooms in three months Phoenix, I'm not impressed. And I'm sure that your father won't be impressed either when I add another £10,000 to his bill. Tut, tut, tut. You've been so naughty," Dr Smith's face was almost touching Phoenix with how close he had got and I felt uncomfortable watching him near her.

Phoenix remained silent, averting her eyes to the ground. Dr Smith came over to me and smiled like he always did, but there was some insane anger shown in his eyes.

"Now Harry I know this is your first day, so I'll give you some advice. Don't hang around the lunatics like her, you're not the same. You, you've got an addiction to a substance. Her, well she's just insane," with a wink he went back over to Phoenix and placed his finger under her chin, forcing her to look at him.

"Now, where do we send people who have misbehaved?" Dr Smith whispered and I couldn't help but feel creeped out by his slightly inappropriate comments towards Phoenix.

"Solitary," she muttered and he beamed, before grabbing her wrist and tugging her back inside the building.

"The fire has been put out, back inside everyone," he shouted to everyone and slowly the crowd of people made their way back inside the building.

Once I was back inside my depressing room, I reflected on the whirlwind of events in the past few hours. Despite the daunting reality of being at the centre, there had been a beacon of hope. Phoenix. She fascinated me, and I hated the fact that she would be gone for a few days while she wasted away in solitary confinement.

"Maybe tomorrow won't be quite as eventful, and I don't know whether that would be a good thing or not," I muttered to myself before deciding that sleep was a far better option than staring at the bland walls of my bedroom.

So Phoenix is already causing issues and it's only her second chapter in this book! What will happen next to Harry while he's at the centre?
