Telling Daddy

Once the boats reached the shores of the Undying Lands the Elves, Man, Dwarf, and Wizard were greeted with such beauty that they had never seen before. The trees were a bright green that would never fade, and they bore such fruit that they knew would never spoil. The grass was healthy and, no matter how much it was trodden on, it stood at attention reaching two inches in height. The animals were healthy and strong and were in harmony with each other. The predators and prey sat with each other on the lawn, neither of them fearing the other. The cottages were simple, but sturdy and homely. The scents of delicious foods reached everyone's nostrils and they began to get excited.

The trio was not excited, though. They saw Thranduil standing by the docks, waiting to greet his son. Aragorn's heart fell to the bottom of stomach at this sight. As the large ships docked, Thranduil headed toward the ships, looking for any sign that Legolas had gone with the Elves. When he did not see his child he went to greet the trio and helped them off their boat. But Legolas was not there either. Thranduil looked out at the sea as if looking for another boat and then he looked back at Aragorn.

"Where is my son?" Thranduil asked hoarsely, fearing the answer.

"He did not come with us, my Lord," Aragorn answered. "Is there somewhere less public where we may discuss his... absence?"

        "Follow me."

Thranduil lead the friends to a small grove of trees. They stood for a moment, in silence. Gimli looked around him. He was a Dwarf in a place for Elves. Of course, a Wizard and a Man were there, too.

"Where is my son?" Thranduil asked again.

Aragorn swallowed, "You may want to sit down."

They all sat on the forest floor as Aragorn recounted the whole tale to Thranduil. The Elf was holding back tears by the time Aragorn finished. The other three were as well. Thranduil was the first to let go. Heart-wrenching sobs wracked his body as he grieved his son's death. Suicide. Why'd it have to be suicide? He thought about the dream his son had. Legolas was that frightened of him? Aragorn took Thranduil into his arms and they both wept together. Then Gimli broke the silence.

"But don't all Elves come here when they die?" Gimli asked.

        Thranduil's head shot up, "Yes."

All four ran about trying to find Legolas. But he was nowhere to be found. They searched for hours. For days. For weeks. For months. After about a year of searching, they gave up. Legolas was not there. If they wanted to see him again, they would have to wait. They would have to be patient and hope that he found his way home.

A/N    MWAHAHAHAHA!!! LEGOLAS WILL NEVER GET BACK!!! HE IS DEAD ONCE AND FOR ALL!!! JK. Actually, I'm not sure yet. It sure as heck won't be in the next chapter. I can tell you that. Okay, so the Undying Lands are like Heaven for the Elves, except it is a place you can physically reach. You live forever and don't age. Really only the Elves go there when they die, but the Undying Lands can be reached by anyone if they go WITH the Elves. Others go to the Halls of Mandos. However, you cannot return. This will be expressed a bit in the next chapter. Per the norm, two comments for an update.
