Prologue
Darkness, a blank screen. That is all that can be seen at the moment as the story began.
Everything was dark at first. But slowly the lighting adjusted, revealing the scene. A fire burned out of control. Smoke clouded up the air, making it hard to see. But it was clear that this place was an old corridor, rotting away after years of being in a sinkhole. The blazing flames weren't providing a whole lot of damage to the already dilapidated structure, it was just finishing the job. It was clear that the building wasn't going to hold on forever. It was time to get out. And that is exactly what a boy and an animatronic were trying to do when they got sidetracked a bit.
"Run Gregory!" Freddy shouted. The roar of the flames almost drowned out the bear animatronic's words. Jumping out of the way of a falling piece of wood, Gregory looked over at his friend. The robot was currently fending off a tentacle. Or at least he was trying to. The tentacle swiftly overpowered him, wrapping him up in its clutches.
"No!" Gregory screamed. Grabbing a piece of wood burning on one end, he turned to face the tentacle as two more sprouted forth from the floorboards. Whacking them with his torch, he stabbed the remaining tentacle into the wall. There was an eerie wailing as Freddy was released from the coils of death. Racing to his side, Gregory exclaimed, "Freddy! Are you okay?!"
"Yes, I am alright Gregory. Now come on! You need to get out of here!" Freddy shouted with urgency in his voice. "Not without you Freddy!" Gregory cried. The animatronic froze, staring at the young boy in front of him. Then he nodded. Helping the kid up to his feet, the robot declared, "Alright superstar. Let's go."
"This way! I think I saw sunlight over here!" Gregory stated. He grabbed the robot's hand in his own. Freddy only needed a simple tug. The child and the bear animatronic ran for their lives, avoiding the flames and the falling debris. They could hear the screams of Burntrap and a strange metallic wail in the distance but they dared not look back. Not when freedom was so close.
"There! Look!" Gregory cried, pointing ahead. The pair were racing down what could only be described as an old rusty sewage pipe. And just down the tunnel was the familiar glimmer of sunlight. Freedom. Their feet splashing in the dirty water, the pair stepped out into a new dawn.
"You alright Gregory?" Freddy asked softly. He and the young boy were currently standing in a small creek that the pipe had led them to. Trees and hills surrounded the water's banks. Way off in the distance, one could see wisps of smoke rising into the sky. But Freddy only paid attention to Gregory who turned to look up at the animatronic.
"We did it Freddy," Gregory whispered, "We got out. We're free."
