Chapter 5
Her arms hugging her knees to her chest, Roxy sobbed her heart out. She didn't even have a heart now she thought about it. But still she sobbed. Questions swam through her head. How had everything gone so wrong? What even happened? Where was everyone? Where was she even?! The wolf animatronic cried even harder.
Footsteps. Roxy could hear footsteps. Panic settled in. She scrambled to hide. But where was she? Where could she hide? Blindly finding a corner, she pressed herself into it. The footsteps were getting closer. Roxy was very afraid. She wasn't going to allow the stranger to think so. She may be blind but she had her teeth, she had her claws. The moment the footsteps stopped near her hiding spot, the wolf animatronic let out a low and fearsome growl.
"Roxanne?" a kind and concerned voice spoke. Roxy stopped growling. She knew that voice. "Freddy?" the wolf animatronic whimpered, trembling. The keytarist could only imagine how pathetic she looked, shaking there like a little leaf. Something heavy moved and then a hand touched her shoulder. She instinctively snarled but stopped once again when another hand cupped around her cheek. "It's okay Roxanne," Freddy reassured her, "I've got you now."
"Freddy... oh Freddy it was horrible!" Roxy cried. She reached out with her arms, trying to find the bear. Freddy carefully scooped up the wolf animatronic. Hugging him, Roxy sobbed into his chest as she choked out, "I don't even know what all happened! I just wasn't myself... and now I can't see!" Looking up at Freddy with her heavily damaged face, she choked out, "I'm... I'm still... beautiful... right? Right Freddy?"
"Of course Roxy. You are still very beautiful," Freddy answered, carrying the wolf animatronic away from the pile of rubble she had been buried underneath. Reduced to hiccups and sniffles, Roxy rested her head against Freddy's shoulder. She seemed to be on low power he guessed. Spotting the humans in the distance, the robot called out, "I've got Roxy!"
"I think I found Chica!" Gregory called back. Freddy sighed in relief. The girls were going to be alright. He hurried over to the child, careful not to jostle Roxy around too much. Trying his best to push away the rubble, Gregory explained, "She's buried underneath all of this stuff. Some of it's too heavy for me to move by myself."
"Here, keep Roxy close. I don't want her wandering around here by herself," Freddy instructed Gregory. As he was saying this, he set Roxy down beside the child. Understanding what he was told, Gregory gently held the wolf animatronic's hand. In the meantime, Freddy got to work freeing Chica. The rubble was indeed heavy. He struggled to move it himself. But alas his hard work was paid off when he moved the last piece.
There she was.
Laying on her back, Chica wasn't moving at all. She laid perfectly still, like she was in recharge or something. Thinking quickly, Freddy grabbed the portable charger in his back. He had enough charge, Chica needed it more than he did right now. Plugging it into her back, the bear animatronic gently cradled her in his arms as he mumbled, "Come on Chica, wake up. Please, I can't lose you too."
Something stirred inside of Chica. The chicken's eyes fluttered open at last. As her systems repowered, she could move her limbs again. Turning to her left, the chicken produced a creaky sound. That was all she could make, the massive hole in her face testifying her missing voice box. Unable to speak, Chica simply pulled Freddy into a warm embrace. Melting in her arms, Freddy hugged his oldest friend back as he whispered, "Thank goodness you're alright."
"Chica... is she here?" Roxy rasped, her voice tired but hopeful. Spotting the damaged wolf animatronic, Chica's eyes widened in horror. Looking back at Freddy, she pointed tentatively to the third robot. Dipping his head once, the bear animatronic murmured, "Go to her. She needs you right now." Standing up on weak legs, Chica stumbled over to Roxy and hugged her. Crying all over again, the wolf hugged the chicken and sobbed, "Chica, how could this have happened?!"
"Guys! I found Monty!" Vanessa shouted on the other side of the wreckage. Leaving the girls to their own devices, Gregory and Freddy started running over. They were almost there when Vanessa let out a bloodcurdling scream. Worried, the pair picked up speed. "What's wrong?!" Freddy asked as he and Gregory finally made it. One hand covering her mouth, Vanessa pointed at something on the ground with one shaky hand. Sure enough, it was Monty. Or at least half of him.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," Freddy mumbled, his hands going over his mouth. If robots could look sick then he was looking very sick. Standing in between the two, Gregory couldn't stop staring. Laying before them were a pair of legs that once belonged to a certain alligator animatronic. The upper half was nowhere to be seen. Granted, the boy never liked the alligator. But he knew Freddy wouldn't be able to bear the loss of a friend. Glancing up at the bear animatronic, he mumbled, "Where do you think he is Freddy?"
"I honestly do not know Gregory. But we have to find him..." Freddy's voice faltered when he felt the ground quaking under his feet. First it started small but then it became more noticeable. One huge tremor sent the trio crashing down onto their knees. "What was that?!" Gregory exclaimed. Both Vanessa and Freddy looked back over their shoulders. The horror leaving his face, Freddy murmured, "It's okay Gregory, the DJ is here."
Turning around slowly, Gregory felt a chill running up his spine once he saw what was behind them. Emerging from the depths of the sinkhole, the gigantic animatronic DJ Music Man seemed relieved to see them. Limping heavily over, he created a series of sounds directed towards Freddy. Standing up, the bear animatronic smiled at the huge spider and replied, "I'm so happy to see you too DJ. Thank goodness you're okay."
Nodding his head, DJ's facial expression changed to one of sadness as he solemnly gazed down at one of his hands, one that was badly burnt. He appeared to be holding something. Gazing up at the larger robot, Freddy asked, "What is it DJ?" Giving off two auto tuned noises, DJ Music Man wordlessly lowered his burnt hand. The trio quietly moved closer, where they were then greeted with a surprise. Laying on his back staring at the night sky above, Monty growled, "Hey there."
"Monty! Oh thank goodness you're okay!" Freddy exclaimed. All of his friends were alive. The bear animatronic moved forward to give the alligator a hug. Swatting his hands away, Monty snarled, "Stay the heck away from me Fazbear! I don't need your pity!" Glaring at Gregory, he hissed, "And keep that blasted kid away too!"
"Here, at least take these back," Vanessa murmured, dragging the legs over. The security guard handed them over to Monty. Taking them, the alligator grumbled, "I hate all of you." Watching as DJ Music Man carried his friend away, Freddy called after them, "Everything is going to be okay Monty! I promise!" A moment later, a response came back, "Screw you Fazbear!"
"He'll be fine, he's a really nice guy once you get to know him," Freddy commented. His remark ended with a nervous chuckle from none other than the bear himself. Gregory and Vanessa both shared a knowing look of doubt. Glancing down at her watch, the security guard sighed softly and mumbled, "Almost morning. Freddy, get the girls and Map Bot and the Daycare Attendant. Gather everyone together and stay together. Once Jerry and the others see you all, they'll take you to repairs."
"Alright. Come on Gregory," Freddy stated. He and the boy were about to walk away when Vanessa stopped them. "Look, I know you two are close. But how about Gregory stays with me while you and the other animatronics are fixed?" the security guard suggested. Freddy opened his mouth to protest but then thought better of it. He trusted Vanessa, she would never hurt a child. Besides, how was he going to look after the boy while being repaired? Turning to Gregory, Freddy rumbled, "She has a point."
"But I wanna stay with you," Gregory protested. "And you will. But for now stay with Vanessa. She will protect you. Trust her Gregory," Freddy replied. Stepping forward, Vanessa chimed in, "I'll take you to visit him whenever I can get a chance." Biting his lip, Gregory's eyes flicked back and forth between the two. Sighing, he faced Freddy and nodded his head. Giving the bear animatronic a hug before he was led away by Vanessa, the child mumbled, "I'll miss you Freddy."
"Me too superstar. We'll see each other soon, don't worry," Freddy replied. Watching the two humans walk out of the wreckage, the robot rubbed his arm nervously as he murmured, "Please be safe Gregory..."
