Chapter 28

"You ready Teddy Bear?" Roxy challenged, raising one eyebrow. Meeting her golden yellow gaze, Freddy responded curtly, "Bring it on superstar." Snapping their heads towards the boys, the two animatronics called out, "Fire away!"

"You're going down Pedro!" Gregory shouted, firing his blaster at targets whenever they popped up. Doing the same thing, Pedro retorted, "Not unless you go down first Gregory!" The boys indeed fired away, racking up points as the time ticked down. Their respective animatronic parents cheered them on. At last, the game ended to reveal a tied score. Breathing a sigh of relief, Freddy exclaimed, "Oh thank Scott, I don't have enough Fazcoins for these bets."

"This is the moment where you say you have a gambling problem," Roxy pointed out. Picking up a Fazerblast, Chica chimed in, "Roxy, you also have a problem with gambling." The wolf's ears drooped when she realized there was truth behind those words. Giggling, Chica pulled her best friend into a warm embrace and added, "At least you have better luck with it." Smiling softly, Roxy wagged her tail as she replied, "Of course, I am the best, right?"

"Yeah you are Mom!" Pedro piped up. Beaming with pride, Roxy's tail wagged even faster as she hugged the teenager in gratitude. Letting the mother and son have their moment, Chica set Grace on the counter and handed her the Fazerblaster. Noticing this, Gregory asked, "Chica, is that safe?"

"Perfectly safe! I figure Gracie's old enough to learn how to play- AHHH!" Chica clucked, suddenly crying out. Her hands rocketed up towards her eyes. Yep, Grace just shot her right in the eyes. The four year old gremlin giggled like absolutely nothing was wrong. Meanwhile, everyone else crowded around the chicken animatronic, making sure she was okay. Patting his oldest friend on the back, Freddy rumbled quietly, "No offense Chica but I don't think a four year old can handle the power and responsibility of a Fazerblaster."

"You're right. Is Gracie okay?" Chica asked, blinking her eyes. The closest to the counter, Gregory and Pedro turned around. However, there was only a Fazerblaster on the counter. Grace was gone. "Um, guys?" The animatronics looked up. "Oh no, not again..." Chica mumbled, sounding so tired. Clearing his throat, Freddy wiggled his left ear once before he started speaking, "Hey Vanessa? We uh... we need a search party... Grace wandered off again-"

"Dang it Freddy! Are you kidding me right now?!" Vanessa's voice crackled over Gregory's Fazwatch and Pedro's Roxy Talkie. All of the animatronics cringed since she was essentially yelling right into their ears. They all listened in dead silence as the security guard continued berating Freddy over the many devices, "Do you know the amount of crap I have to deal with every single day?! There's at least ten other children lost per day! And I have told you all to keep your children under close supervision! This is the sixteenth time Grace has gotten lost in a week since Chica adopted her! You're telling me you lost her again?!"

"Yeah, we did," Roxy piped up. There was a moment of silence before Vanessa asked, "Are you all hearing this right now?" Everyone quickly answered in unison, telling the security guard they had indeed heard everything. Heck, the group could even hear Monty, the Daycare Attendant, Map Bot and DJ Music Man answer. There was a heavy sigh from Vanessa before she finally spoke again, "Can you all look for her yourselves? I'm a little busy right now with paperwork and Jerry has been blowing up my phone all day."

"Of course Vanessa, no problem. We'll see you later tonight," Freddy's voice came through Vanessa's headpiece like a soft whisper. Rubbing her forehead, she mumbled, "Thank you." With that, she turned off her headpiece. She knew she shouldn't in case there was an emergency somewhere in the Pizzaplex but she needed the silence. Pushing back away from the monitor screen, the young woman tipped her head back against her chair and stared blankly at the ceiling.

Her phone dinged, a new message. Sitting up immediately, Vanessa snatched the small device and turned it on. Another message from Jerry, shocker. Slumping further into her chair, the young woman swiped to the left, unlocking her phone screen. Opening her messenger app, she scrolled past Jerry's texts and instead went to another conversation she was trying to have with another person. Still unread, never a reply back despite her many texts in an attempt to start up some small talk. Setting her phone down on the desk, Vanessa covered her face with her hands.

If one was to listen quietly, they could hear choked sobs coming from the security office.
