Chapter 27
Several hours later and it was a brand new day. The Pizzaplex was open again. There weren't a whole lot of people yet considering it was pretty early in the morning. Everyone on sight knew that kids needed to be at school and adults had to be at work so they weren't worried about how slow business was. For one animatronic in particular, the slow morning allowed him to process things through his mind. That and to get somewhere without being questioned why.
"I can't believe I agreed to this..." Monty grumbled as he pushed the door open and entered the daycare. His ears rang with the sound of happy and cheerful music. Already, the alligator animatronic was hating this experience. But he had to do this. Cupping his hands together around his snout, he bellowed, "Sundrop! I'm here!"
"Perfect! Just in time for our anger management class! How are you today Montgomery?" Sundrop trilled, suddenly appearing on Monty's right side. The gator squeaked in alarm. Turning red with embarrassment and shame, he hissed through clenched teeth, "Peachy Sundrop. Can we just hurry up with this? I don't want to be here forever." Twirling around effortlessly like a graceful ballerina, the Daycare Attendant quipped, "Oh don't worry my good sir, I'm not expecting any kids today until noon. My usual group is going to the petting zoo on a field trip today."
"Well isn't that just fantastic?" Monty growled. He was already hating this. But he had agreed a while back to the other animatronics that he would take these classes with Sundrop in an attempt to keep his anger under control. He honestly thought the classes weren't working though, considering he was always flipping his top every five minutes. Following the Daycare Attendant downstairs, the alligator grumbled, "What are we doing today, talking about feelings?"
"Sorta. I have one important question to start us off on," Sundrop murmured as he took a seat on a beanbag chair. Crossing his legs and folding his hands together as if he was in prayer, he gazed up at Monty expectantly. The gator had a feeling he knew where this was going. Flopping down on two beanbags, he muttered, "Okay, so how bad were you all freaking out last night? Did Fat Bear have a heart attack and die finally?" Gasping, Sundrop exclaimed, "Monty! That is not a nice thing to say about a friend!"
"Oh really? Even a friend who talks behind my back? I heard y'all last night!" Monty spat angrily. His sharp claws dug deep into the beanbag as he continued, "All I have ever tried to do is keep you all safe and yet y'all disregard every word I say! Those kids are the whole reason why the entire Fazbear franchise is cursed! And I'm about to watch my so-called friends get destroyed because of them!" Panting from his outburst, the alligator animatronic rested his chin on his crossed arms as he rasped, "Why am I the only one who can see this?"
"Montgomery, I know where you're coming from. Or at least Moon does, not so much me," Sundrop spoke softly, tapping his head with one finger. Scooting closer, he rested his hand on Monty's back and rubbed it reassuringly as he went on, "Both you and Moon have those protective instincts, you don't want anything bad happening to others. Especially the ones you love. And I just want you to know that there's nothing wrong with that. Don't worry, everything is going to be okay. Ain't nothing to be scared of. Not when you have friends by your side."
"Sunny!" a familiar voice called out. Recognizing it, Monty's head shot up as he murmured, "Alyssa?" Looking at the alligator animatronic in surprise, Sundrop asked, "Wait, you know Alyssa too?" Sitting up on the beanbag, Monty rubbed his arm as he muttered, "Um, yeah, we met last night while I was avoiding the rest of you. Some boys were messing with her." Gasping in horror, Sundrop was on his feet in seconds as he raced over to the staircase in the daycare. Heaving himself up, Monty followed.
"Alyssa! Are you okay? Was it Billy and Tom again?!" Sundrop cried from where he was standing at the base of the staircase. Making it over to his side, Monty looked up. Carefully feeling each step with her cane, Alyssa slowly descended down the stairs as she remarked, "I am okay Sunny, really. They just took my cane again, like they always do." Crossing his arms over his chest, Monty leaned towards Sundrop and hissed quietly, "And they shoved her to the floor after they told her to go fetch."
"Monty! You're here too!" Alyssa piped up cheerfully. She had successfully made it down the stairs. Tapping the floor left and right with her cane, she approached Monty. Once her cane hit his foot, she outstretched her arms and gave the robot a big hug. "Um, nice to see you again Alyssa..." Monty stuttered, patting the teen on the head gently. Smiling happily, Alyssa looked around as she declared, "I got those pictures done Sunny."
"You did?! Ooh, let me see them!" Sundrop squealed in delight. His earlier terror was long gone. Setting down the backpack she brought with her, she opened it up and pulled out some paper. Every sheet had a drawing on it. Spying a few as they were passed off to Sundrop, Monty was impressed by what he saw. The pictures were very good. "Oh Alyssa, the kids are gonna love these!" Sundrop purred like a cat, melting with each work of art. Nodding his head in agreement, Monty chimed in, "Awesome work kid."
"Thank you. I made one for you too, Monty," Alyssa pointed out. Reaching into the backpack again, she pulled out a lone piece of paper and handed it to the robot. Taking it gingerly, Monty inspected it. Sketched out in black pencil on a white background was his face. Glasses, mohawk, eyes, even his lightning bolt. It was all there with almost pinpoint accuracy. Awestruck, Monty stammered, "This... this is amazing Alyssa... thank you."
"You're welcome Monty, I'm glad you love it," Alyssa replied, giving the alligator animatronic another hug. Turning to the Daycare Attendant to give him one as well, the teenager promised, "I'll be back around noon Sunny." Nodding his head, Sundrop answered, "Alrighty sweetie. You take care now. Do you need help up the stairs?" Shaking her head as she picked up her backpack, Alyssa spoke kindly, "No thank you, I can get up those alright."
"Okay, bye bye for now sweetie," Sundrop responded. Sticking around for a little bit to make sure Alyssa was going up alright, he walked away with an armful of pictures. Following the Daycare Attendant, Monty couldn't help but stare at the picture he was given. Never had he ever received any kind of art or card or letter or affection from the people who came to the Pizzaplex. This was his first ever fan mail. This realization was almost enough to make him sob. Choking back tears of joy, he rasped, "She's a good kid."
"Yes she is. She helps me around the daycare, draws pictures for the kids. And get this, she draws all of these based on memory! You hand her an object to feel for a minute or two, she'll come back with a work of art," Sundrop stated. Sighing softly, the Daycare Attendant mumbled, "I do hope I can convince management to let me have an elevator in here for children with wheelchairs. It'll make things easier for her as well." Gently placing Alyssa's picture in his chest cavity, Monty asked, "What do you mean?"
"You... you didn't realize?"
"Realize what?"
"You don't know why she wears those sunglasses or has a cane, do you?"
"No, not at all."
"Monty, Alyssa is blind."
"She's... blind?"
