Chapter 16

"We don't have to do this Dad, I'm okay," Gregory mumbled in a hushed voice. The little boy was curled up into a ball and bundled up in a blanket. Looking down at the child he carried in his arms, Freddy couldn't help but smile when he heard Gregory say Dad. Snapping back into reality though, the bear animatronic rumbled, "Gregory, we have to do this. Sundrop is very good with children and he is very well educated in first aid and psychology. He should be able to help you."

"Yes, he should. These nightmares- no Map Bot, I don't need a map," Vanessa said, shooing Map Bot away while she spoke, "These nightmares are getting serious. I know I'm no therapist but I don't need to be one to notice that something is wrong."

"Don't you worry about bout a thing Gregory! Sundrop is very nice!" Chica chirped, following with a sleeping Grace cradled in her arms. Her fluffy tail calmly swishing back and forth behind her as she walked alongside the chicken animatronic, Roxy rubbed her sleepy eyes and murmured, "Yeah, at least he was. Now he's just being weird."

"Roxanne, that is no way to talk about our friend. I'm pretty sure he'll be alright once he spends some time with Gregory and Grace. He probably misses seeing the children," Freddy reassured everyone as they finally arrived at the entrance to the daycare. Carefully handling Gregory, the bear animatronic opened the door and led the group inside a dark room. Right away, everyone knew something was wrong.

All the lights were off.

"Just misses the children, Freddy?" Roxy questioned, crossing her arms over her chest. Staring at the dark daycare, Chica exclaimed, "Sunny never willingly lets the daycare lights off after hours! What's going on?" Turning on her flashlight, Vanessa muttered, "I don't know. But the fact the skylight is even covered up is bothering me. Let me get the lights turned on here in a sec-"

"You will do no such thing!" a voice hissed from the darkness. Everyone froze in their tracks and immediately searched the black surrounding them. Her eyes brightening up, Roxy pointed to the left and barked, "There!" Upon looking, the others could see two red lights glowing in the dark. They were eyes, Moondrop's eyes.

"Moondrop, what's going on? Where's Sundrop?" Vanessa asked, turning her flashlight towards the moon themed animatronic. Shielding his eyes from the bright light, Moondrop growled, "He is here but he is not here. One thing I do know is that he does not want to be seen right now."

"Please, it's urgent. We need help," Freddy pleaded, stepping forward. Glancing down at Gregory briefly, the bear animatronic continued, "Gregory has been having nightmares and we know Sundrop is an excellent doctor and therapist. We were hoping he might be able to help Gregory." Silence followed as Moondrop gazed down upon the child in Freddy's arms. At last, he spoke, "No. Sunny will not help you."

"What?!" Chica squawked in surprise. Equally surprised, Roxy chimed in, "Well then maybe you can help him! You are in charge of nap time, you should know a thing or two about recurring nightmares!" Snapping his gaze towards the two female animatronics, Moondrop spat, "Yes, that is true. But there is no way I'm going to help that rule breaker! Sunny does not even want to see him!"

"That's too bad, we have to see him," Vanessa remarked. Without a moment's hesitation, she raced over to the closest light switch and pressed it. The lights turned on, revealing the entirety of the daycare from the play structures to the colorful walls. It also revealed Sundrop in all of his glory. The gang sighed in relief, delighted to see the sun themed animatronic. But they got the surprise of their lives when he rushed off and switched the lights back off. His hand still pressed down on the button, Moondrop glared at the group as he snarled, "Lights off." He removed his hand, showcasing the now broken light switch.

"Moondrop, what is going on with you and Sundrop?" Freddy asked, a hint of concern in his voice. Setting Gregory down, the bear gently placed his hands on the moon themed animatronic's shoulders as he mumbled, "Please, tell us. Maybe we can help you." Shrugging the bear off, Moondrop hissed in a low voice, "There is nothing wrong with me. Sunny just doesn't want to see anyone right now and I'm simply fulfilling his wishes. So leave." Turning to walk away, he glanced back and muttered, "There might be a smile sculpted out onto our faces but that doesn't mean we're happy."

"Aw, poor Sundrop. He's been through so much," Chica mumbled, watching with the others as the Daycare Attendant disappeared into the darkness. Glancing over at the chicken, Roxy pointed out, "We all have. But yeah, it seems like Sundrop has got a few things to deal with before reopening day." Sighing heavily, Freddy rasped, "I wish we could help him somehow."

"We can!" Gregory piped up, finally speaking after so long. Vanessa and the robots looked down at the child with a blanket draped over his shoulders. "But how Gregory? The Daycare Attendant just keeps pushing us away- what are you doing superstar?" Freddy spoke. He asked that last part when Gregory opened his stomach hatch and started digging around inside for something. The girls watched in dead silence, their eyes like saucers. "Freddy," Vanessa piped up, "What is he doing?"

"Oh don't worry, he does this all the time."

"That is not a safe play area!"

"I know, I told him that."

"Alright, come on Freddy! Let's go!" Gregory exclaimed, hopping out with something in his arms. He raced off, probably in search of the Daycare Attendant. Chuckling nervously, Freddy shrugged his shoulders and remarked, "Kids, am I right?" With that, he followed the little boy. The girls still stood there in silence.

"What the actual frick did we just see?" Roxy questioned.
