Chapter 12
"What was that?!" Gregory cried. The little boy took shelter behind Chica. Keeping the little boy close, the chicken scanned the room. There was movement near some pizza boxes stacked near the air vents. Something was moving over there.
"Gregory, use your Faz Watch and contact Freddy and the others. Also stay here, I'm going to investigate," Chica declared calmly. The chicken animatronic patted the little boy on the head reassuringly before she turned to the other side of the kitchen. Bracing herself, she braved the potential danger and cautiously made her way over there. Looking around, she called out softly, "Hello? Anyone here?"
Another crash.
"Don't be scared, I don't want any trouble," Chica pointed out. The crash had been close, on the other side of the table actually near the trash bins and back door. Rounding the table, the chicken animatronic didn't see anything out of the ordinary at first. Then something moved amongst the trash bins. Her curiosity piqued, Chica reached out and pulled one of the bins away from the wall, at last discovering the source of the noise.
A little girl.
Roughly around the age of four Chica figured, the small child appeared to be of Asian descent with black hair and pale skin. Her black hair was held up in two pigtails with pink bows. She adorned a pink dress and little sandals on her tiny feet. Sitting upon an empty pizza box that had fallen onto the floor, the little girl looked up at Chica. A delighted giggle escaped from her mouth.
Chica wasn't sure how, seeing how she was a robot. But she couldn't help but feel something she could only describe as perhaps instinct or love. One thing was for sure, the chicken knew the child should not be playing in the trash. Scooping up the little girl in her arms, Chica spoke softly, "This is not a safe place to play sweetie, you could get hurt really bad." Giggling again, the child hugged the chicken. Melting at the warmth of her touch, Chica closed her eyes and smiled in happiness.
"Gregory! Chica! We're here! What's wrong?" Freddy called out as he and Vanessa entered the kitchen. Relieved to see the bear animatronic, Gregory simply pointed to the other end of the kitchen. Both Freddy and Vanessa looked up just in time to see Chica return to the group. Cradled in her arms was a small human child. Gasping, Vanessa mumbled, "Oh my goodness..."
"What's going on? We heard you guys running and Freddy freaking out," Roxy announced her and Monty's arrival. The two stood in the doorway of the kitchen. Upon seeing the kid Chica was holding, Roxy quietly approached as she murmured, "Where did you find her?" Gazing upon the little girl, Chica answered, "Found her by the trash bins. She must've snuck in."
"Just like another child I happen to know," Vanessa remarked, giving Gregory a look. Pretending to be shocked, Gregory replied, "Oh yeah? Who?"
"Where are her parents? They should be nearby, right?" Freddy asked. Both he and Chica were playing with the little girl now, tickling her belly and feet. They received happy giggles in return. Leaning against the doorframe, Monty growled, "Who cares? Just dump it outside with the other gremlin." Gasping in horror, Chica exclaimed, "We are not sending Grace out there to fend for herself!"
"Grace?" Gregory piped up, confused. Grinning nervously, Chica explained sheepishly, "That's... that's what I've decided to call her. I'm naming her Grace." The room went quiet except for the baby giggles. Then suddenly Monty snapped, "You don't name it! You name it, you get attached to it! This is why Fazbear has one!"
"Thank you for that, Monty," Freddy mumbled.
"Monty, can you just calm down-" Roxy began to speak. However, Monty interrupted her as he thundered, "No! I'm the only one in this darn place who can see what's going to happen! Management is gonna find out about these kids and take them away from you imbeciles! And then they're gonna scrap you! Brainwash you! It'll happen if you're not careful!" Without another word, the alligator animatronic stormed off. Something crashed a moment later, no doubt something broken.
"I hate to say this but he does have a point, Chica, don't get too attached," Vanessa advised. Gently stroking the little girl's black hair, the security guard continued, "Her family is probably out there searching for her. They must be worried sick." Glancing at the child she held in her arms, Chica sighed and mumbled, "Yeah, you're right."
"How about Chica takes care of her until we find Grace's parents?" Gregory suggested. Ruffling the young boy's hair playfully, Freddy commented, "That's not a bad idea. I don't want to think about how the higher ups would react to finding lost children in the Pizzaplex a month before the official reopening day." Thinking for a moment, Vanessa gave in and stated, "Okay, Chica can look after Grace. I'll try to find her parents."
"Thank you guys," Chica replied, smiling. Cradling Grace closer to her chest, the chicken animatronic nuzzled the child lovingly as she promised, "Don't worry sweetie, I'm gonna take good care of you."
