Chapter 10
"My raceway is so huge! There's multiple racetracks now!" Roxy exclaimed. She and Chica were peering over a balcony that overlooked the new and improved Roxy Raceway. Walking over with Gregory riding on his shoulders, Freddy commented, "It looks amazing Roxanne! I can't wait to see you race them!" Wagging her tail, the wolf purred, "I will be unstoppable!"
"Hm, it appears you guys were just at the food court. How is it? I wanna see it next," Chica clucked, spying the slushie in Gregory's hand. Taking a huge slurp of the blue colored slush, the boy gave a thumbs up and answered, "It's enormous! You guys all have a restaurant themed after you!"
"I think I need to hit the gym more often... this place is huge..." Vanessa panted, reuniting with the group. She was completely out of breath. Concerned, Freddy let Gregory down. "Vanessa, you should rest. Don't exhaust yourself," the bear advised. Waving him off, the security guard replied, "I will, once I figure out where Monty is. Do you guys know where he is?"
Something loud crashed, followed by an, "AW CRAP!"
"Found him," Chica reported, pointing down below the balcony. The group peered down just as a geyser of water sprung up and splashed Freddy in the face, causing him to fall backwards. Gregory and the girls continued to look down. Apparently the water was coming from a newly broken water fountain. Standing nearby with a golf club in his hand, Monty glanced up at the group and mumbled, "Oops."
"Feeling better Monty?" Roxy asked, keeping away from the geyser. Glancing at the damaged water fountain, the alligator animatronic solemnly nodded his head as he rumbled, "Yeah, a little." Adjusting the hat on her head, Vanessa shouted angrily, "Good because you just destroyed a water fountain, a vending machine and several trash cans that look like Freddy!"
"Why's it always me?" Freddy whimpered, shaking water out of his fur.
"Well excuse me for reacting to a fellow animatronic adopting a human child!" Monty retorted, throwing his golf club down. Pointing one clawed finger towards Freddy and Gregory, he roared, "Mark my words! When the higher ups hear about this, it will be the end for all of us! We're robots! We're not supposed to have feelings and emotions and get attached to things! That's how we lost Bonnie!"
"Monty please! Shut your big mouth for once!" Roxy barked. She tossed her head towards Freddy and Chica. Both robots seemed sad at the mention of the rabbit. Rolling his eyes, Monty scoffed. Glaring at Gregory, the alligator growled, "Just you wait, you'll see I'm right. Either the higher ups will find out about this or that kid will stab us all in the back again. And trust me when I say this, when secrets are revealed someone always gets hurt." Stomping off, he hissed, "ALWAYS."
"Chica, are you alright?" Freddy asked, placing a hand on the chicken's shoulder. Nodding her head quietly, Chica chirped softly, "Yeah... yeah I'm okay. Perhaps I can make some pizza for everyone. You know, like a welcome home meal." Shrugging the bear's hand off, she headed for the kitchen. Roxy went to follow her when Freddy stopped her. "I think she needs some time alone," the robot advised, "Perhaps Monty could use his big sister though."
"Right, yeah," Roxy mumbled. The wolf hurried to catch up with the alligator. Sighing heavily, Freddy leaned back against the railing of the balcony. Joining him, Vanessa murmured, "No one said this was going to be easy Freddy, you know that." Standing on the other side of the bear animatronic, Gregory added, "I blame myself for this."
"No no Gregory, don't blame yourself. This isn't your fault in any way," Freddy reassured the small child, ruffling his messy brown hair gently. Taking a hold of the robot's hand, Gregory explained, "But it is my fault! After what I did to them, they're probably never going to trust me ever again! If I was in their shoes, I wouldn't trust me either, not after what I did to them."
"You were only defending yourself Gregory, don't put yourself down like that," Vanessa piped up. Taking her hat off, the security guard continued, "They'll come around too, you'll see. All you have to do is appeal to their better nature." Seeing the sense behind the woman's words, an idea popped into Gregory's head. "You're right!" the boy exclaimed, "I just have to appeal to their better nature!"
"Yes, that's what I said- Gregory?" Vanessa spoke, watching the kid run off. Looking over at the human, Freddy rumbled, "Where's he going?"
