Chapter 24:Eye Need Answers
On the way to Meritech Prosthetics, Five gave me the rundown of what was happening, although he was very sceptical about the underlying reason for going in the first place. My gut said that whatever the reason, it wasn't good.
"But why do you need to know about this stupid eye anyway?" I asked whilst walking behind Five, who seemed deep in thought. Five abruptly stopped walking, causing me to nearly bump into him.
"I doubt that is any of your concern," Five snapped, eyes narrowing at me. Before I had a chance to respond, he turned back around and carried on walking.
Jesus, he didn't need to be so rude about a simple question.
As we started to walk again, Klaus nudged me a little.
"Don't worry about him; he didn't even tell me," Klaus flashed me a cheeky smile. I couldn't help but smirk a little at his comment.
"Yeah, but do you actually care? Or do you just want your money?" I raised an eyebrow at him, knowing exactly how he would respond. Klaus laughed a little before answering.
"Okay, you've got me there! It is certainly nice to have our banter back, Charlotte." He slapped my shoulder playfully, just like he used to do when we were kids. I did my best not to flinch at his action but failed. Luckily for me, he didn't seem to notice.
I had to admit that it was nice to see that Klaus and I could pick up from where we left off, even if it wasn't fully like before. Unlike Five, he didn't really seem to care about the intricate details of my whereabouts and just seemed happy that I was back in his life. It was a shame to see that Klaus carried on with the drug and alcohol route, meaning that he probably never controlled his powers in the way Dad intended. Maybe if I had stayed, things would have been different.
"You know I can hear you 2, right?" Five asked in a monotone voice.
Klaus and I exchanged a look before Five stopped in front of us again, placing his hands in his pockets.
"Anyway, we are here," Five turned to Klaus, "Klaus, are you sure you know what you are doing? We only have one chance at this." Klaus rolled his eyes and stepped forward, placing his hands on Five's shoulders, at which Five raised an eyebrow.
"Listen, little brother -" Klaus began.
"Nope, that's not correct," Five interrupted. I could see the faith he had in Klaus slowly leaving his face. But Klaus ignored this.
"I have got your back; you have nothing to worry about," Klaus smiled down at Five, hoping this would reassure him, but all Five did was roll his eyes and waft away his arms.
"This is going to be an absolute shit show," Five muttered under his breath as he walked up the stairs to the office. Klaus turned to look back at me, his eyebrows furrowed slightly.
"Was it something I said?" Klaus asked, shrugging his shoulders. I took a step forward and began to follow behind Five.
"Just ignore him; he hasn't had his afternoon nap." A smug smile made its way onto my face, slightly surprised Five didn't hear my little comment.

Once inside, Five spoke to the receptionist, demanding to talk to a doctor. At first, the receptionist was a little hesitant, but eventually, she called for a doctor and showed us to an office with glass walls.
I'm not going to lie; I would hate working in an office with glass walls. I like my privacy, thank you very much.
I looked around the room and couldn't help but notice the lack of colour. It was all different shades of white or grey, which gave the office a medical feel.
Before the doctor arrived, we all got seated in the chairs in front of the desk; I decided it was probably best to take the one on the end, seeing as it was mainly Klaus and Five who would be doing the talking. When the doctor walked in, he seemed slightly unimpressed with seeing Five again.
The doctor sighed before he started to speak.
"Like I said to your son earlier, any information about the prosthetics we build is strictly confidential. Without the client's consent, I simply can't help you." The doctor looked between the 3 of us, hoping we would take the hint and leave the office.
Five stood up after hearing this. I could feel the anger radiating from him. Klaus and I watched as he placed his hands on the glass table and leaned forward as if to intimidate the doctor.
"Well," Five started through clenched teeth, "we can't get consent if you don't give us a name." Five squinted his eyes at the doctor, losing his patience by the second.
The doctor stared blankly at him, just by the look alone it was clear that this doctor was not willing to help us.
"Well, that's not my problem," the doctor started to get ready to stand up. I looked towards Klaus, who seemed to be thinking of something to say or do. But knowing Klaus, I knew I was in for a show. Leaning back in my chair and crossing my arms, I waited for the chaos to commence.
"Sorry. Now, there's really nothing more I can do, so-"
Klaus' eyes flickered between the doctor and Five before he decided to speak up.
"And what about my consent?" Klaus started, his voice serious.
Oh boy, let the show begin!
The doctor gave Klaus a puzzled look, unsure where he was going with his statement.
"Excuse me?" The doctor asked, still keeping the same calm composure.
Klaus leaned forward in his chair before standing up, ready to give the performance of his life, all for $20.
"Who gave you permission," Klaus started to fake cry without the tears, " to lay your hands." I looked over at Five, who was trying to guess where Klaus was going with this. Klaus lifted his finger and pointed towards Five and I.
"On my son and his girlfriend?" Klaus remained in character, but I couldn't help but raise my eyebrows a little at the fact that he said I was Five's girlfriend. Could he not have said sister? Of course not; he just had to throw some chaos my way.
"What?" All 3 of us said in unison. I was here for the show but didn't want to be a part of it!
"You heard me," Klaus said, still sat in his seat. The doctor looked between Five and me, trying to see if we were just as confused as him.
"I didn't touch your son or his girlfriend," the doctor still remained calm, but I could sense he was slightly on edge.
"Oh, really?" Klaus asked. Even though Klaus had pulled me into this, it was hard to deny that he was doing a very good job.
"Well, then, why do they both have swollen lips?"
After Klaus said that, I knew exactly where this was going. Klaus was going to hit both of us in the face. I know I wouldn't have much time to react, so I would have to let things plan out.
The doctor looked at Klaus as if he was crazy.
"They don't have swollen -" Before the doctor could finish his sentence, Klaus leapt out of his chair and hit Five in the face, causing Five to grunt and cover his mouth in pain.
The doctor gasped a little, in complete shock, that a father would hit his son just to prove a point.
Klaus inhaled sharply; it was easy to see that he was running on adrenaline at this point.
"I want it. Name, please. Now!" Klaus exclaimed, hoping his scare tactic would work. The doctor remained silent, which only fuelled Klaus' fire.
No, Klaus wouldn't actually hit me... would he?
I soon got my answer as Klaus turned to me and made the same move as he did to Five. My chair rocked slightly as his fist met my face. I could feel a prickling sensation travel through my face, followed by the taste of blood.
Son of a bitch! I can't believe he actually hit me, and I have to let him get away with it.
I sat forward in my seat, holding my face. I had to pretend the hit hurt more than it did. Looking up, I saw Klaus lean forward on the desk. He really wasn't going to give up so easily.
The doctor was visibly scared but tried to stand his ground. He probably hoped that the glass walls would work in his favour and that someone would see what was happening and step in or call security.
"You're crazy," the doctor said in a slightly shaky voice, which seemed to make Klaus laugh.
"You got no idea." Klaus chuckled back. I mean, he wasn't wrong. This doctor had no idea who he was messing with.
Before I knew it, Klaus had picked up a snow globe that was sitting on the doctor's desk. Klaus examined it for a few seconds and twirled it in his hands.
"Peace on earth. That's so sweet," Klaus read out the engraving on the globe before smashing it into his face. Both Five and I couldn't help but glance at one another, unsure whether Klaus' plan was actually working.
Klaus groaned in pain, the sound of glass falling off him. I noticed a bleeding cut on his forehead, but at least this made us all even.
"God, that hurt!" Klaus yelled, shaking the pain off.
The doctor, now visibly scared for his safety, grabbed his phone from the desk and started typing in a number frantically.
"I'm calling secrui - " The doctor was cut off by Klaus, who was giving performing his final act. Klaus snatched the phone out of the doctor's hands.
"What are you doing?" The doctor asked, unable to hide his scared tone.
That's when Klaus put the receiver up to his ear and put on a fake distressed voice.
"There's been an assault in Mr. Big's office, and we need security now. Schnell!" Klaus threw the receiver back onto the desk and sighed.
Both Five and I started to look out of the glass walls to see if anyone had seen what had just happened.
"Now, here's what's going to happen, Grant." Klaus started, slightly out of breath.
"It's... Lance," the doctor corrected, looking like a deer in the headlights. But Klaus ignored his correction, ready to give his final speech.
"In about 60 seconds, 2 security guards are gonna burst through that door, and they're gonna see a whole lot of blood, and they're gonna wonder, what the hell happened?"
As Klaus carried on, I noticed Five smirking. He knew that Klaus' plan had worked, and he was going to get the answers he wanted. I continued to sit back and watch the scene unfold, unable to understand why Five needed to know so much about this random glass eye.
"And we're gonna tell them that you," Klaus paused for dramatic effect and started the actual waterworks, "beat the shit out of us."
Klaus relaxed his body, stopped the fake crying and smiled.
"You're going to do great in prison, Grant. Trust me, I've been there. Little piece of chicken like you. Oh my God, you're gonna get passed around like a" Klaus started to make a swirling motion with his hips, which caused both Five and I to furrow our eyebrows at him.
Now, this is why you don't do drugs.
"You're just - You're gonna do great. That's all I'm saying."
Lance looked between all 3 of us. The look of fear in his eyes was plain to see.
"Jesus, you are a real sick bastard," he croaked. To which Klaus looked back at him thoughtfully.
"Thank you," he said before spitting out a shard of glass.
I noticed the cocky smirk on Five's face, which made me roll my eyes. I couldn't help myself; I just hated that smile so much.
Lance finally gave in and escorted us to a file room. I noticed that he was frantically searching, wanting to escape this encounter.
Once he located the file, he looked puzzled by whatever he was reading. Klaus, who was standing very close to him, noticed this look.
"Oh, that's strange," Lance said, flicking between papers within the file. I watched as Five's face dropped from his cocky smile to a scowl.
"What?" He snapped, not liking the look on Lance's face.
Lance double-checked his papers before speaking.
"Umm, the eye. It hasn't been purchased by a client yet." Lance's arms started shaking slightly, which wasn't helped by Klaus' quick movement to his side.
"What? What do you mean?" Klaus asked, also not impressed with this answer. But I think he was only concerned if the outcome affected his payment.
"Well, uh, our logs say that the eye with that serial number," Lance stuttered, feeling the pressure slightly from all 3 of us.
"This can't be right. It hasn't even been manufactured yet." Lance said, looking back at the papers, trying to make sense of it all.
Now, that was strange. This only piqued my interest in why Five needed this information.
"Where did you get that eye?" Lance asked, looking up towards Five.
All eyes were on Five at this point, each of us wanting to know something different. But all Five did was look down and sigh. He wasn't just annoyed; he was furious.
As much as I wanted to see Five work his way out of this one, I decided to step in.
"I think it's best if we leave now," I said, pulling Five's arm and signalling Klaus to get moving.
Lance stared blankly at me; he looked shocked that I had finally opened my mouth.
"Now, wait just a minute, young lady."
What did he call me? Oh, this guy has some nerve.
Letting go of Five's arm, I looked towards Lance and gave him my best fake smile.
"I am sorry for all the trouble my boyfriend and my boyfriend's Dad has caused. " Referring to Five as my boyfriend made me feel sick, but I managed to work through it. "I think it's best for all 4 of us if we just leave. Don't you agree?" I narrowed my eyes slightly at Lance, signalling to him that he didn't want to mess with me.
Lance took the hint and let us go with no further questions. As soon as we entered the lift, Klaus started laughing.
"Nicely handled, Charlotte! I was slightly worried we were going to have to use more violence to get out of this place." Klaus turned to look at the mirror in the lift, taking in his new glittery appearance.
I smiled at Klaus; truthfully, my mind was elsewhere. I watched as Five became silent. It was as if he had hit a dead end and was thinking of another route.

"You guys head out; I'm just going to go to the bathroom," I said before leaving the building. It's not like I needed the toilet, but I wanted to fix my busted lip.
Five rolled his eyes before heading out the door with Klaus.
"Fine, just don't take too long!" He ordered. He was still in a rush, and the fact that he had gotten nothing from Lance only made him more unbearable.
Once in the bathroom, I sighed, taking in the dried blood on my lip. It was a good punch, considering it was from Klaus.
Not wanting to piss Five off further, I quickly wiped away the blood and carefully applied some lip gloss to my lips, hoping that would hide the tiny cut.
Looking through the glass doors, I saw Five sitting on the steps and Klaus talking to him.
"Hey, you know, I've just realised why you're so uptight," Klaus started as I pushed the doors open. He gave me a little smirk before continuing.
"You must be horny as hell!" Klaus laughed before taking a seat next to Five.
Leave it to Klaus to bring up sex.
Quietly I took a seat next to Five; I could see his cheeks getting slightly rosier at the mention of him being horny. I knew Klaus was only trying to stir up some drama for fun, but Five wasn't having any of it.
"All those years by yourself. It's gotta screw with your head, being alone," Klaus continued, not knowing when to quit. Five continued to look straightforward, signalling he wasn't affected by Klaus' words.
"Well," Five looked to the side as if to recall a lost memory. His voice went soft, which was something unusual for Five.
"I wasn't alone," Five furrowed his brows and turned his head to look straightforward again. It was strange to see this side of Five.
Klaus looked between Five and me, but I couldn't help but admit I was also curious.
"Oh?" Klaus spoke in a questioning tone, "Pray tell."
I could sense a shift in Five's body language, which could only mean he was about to open up. I also noticed that he turned away from me slightly as if to cut me off from the conversation.
"Her name was Delores," Five started, the same softness in his voice present. "We were together for over 10 years."
I couldn't help but raise my eyebrows. 10 years? I could never see Five being someone for that long. Or with anyone at all.
"10 years? Wow..." I spoke out loud, which made Five turn his head towards me, almost as if he had forgotten I was there listening. He quickly turned away and stared off at the pavement before us.
"God," Klaus chuckled, "the longest I've been with someone was... I don't know, 3 weeks."
At Klaus' comment, both Five and I turned to look at him. I think we were both as surprised that Klaus could recall a time that he had dated someone.
"And that's only because I was tired of looking for a place to sleep," Klaus concluded.
Ah, that makes sense.
I noticed Five roll his eyes out of the corner of my eye. Five tried to open up for once, but Klaus' comment seemed to have ruined the moment. Before Klaus could say another word, I felt Five's grip on my shoulder, and the familiar blue light appeared around us.
Five knew I hated it when he blinked with no warning. After regaining my senses, I noticed Five and I were in the back of a taxi.
The taxi driver gasped. Seeing 2 teenagers in the back of his car who weren't there before made him slow down slightly.
"Don't stop," Five commanded, staring out the window. "Just keep going."
The taxi driver did as instructed, clearly not in the mood to find out what would happen if he went against Five's orders.
"Hey! We can't just leave him there!" I scolded Five, trying to get up from my seat. But Five's arm shot in front of my body before I had a chance.
"Will you stop complaining? We have better things to do than to listen to Klaus' nonsense," Five snapped back.
I sighed angrily, knowing there was no point in arguing with him. As the taxi passed Klaus, Five gave him a small salute, which made me roll my eyes again.
In the background, you could hear Klaus shouting about his money.
"Was that really necessary?" I asked, folding my arms and looking out of the window.
Five turned to me, revealing his cocky smile.
"Oh, absolutely."
Five Fact: Five still isn't 100% sure about Charlotte; hence, he hasn't told her about the apocalypse yet.
A/N: Well, I am officially another year older now! Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! I have been a little bit busy, so I apologise if I haven't responded to your message yet; I promise I'll reply soon! I always get a little sad around my birthday, so seeing people care so much really made my day!
This was another fun chapter to write! I'm slowly getting the hang of writing scenes from the show without making them too dull or identical! But I'll leave that up to you to decide. Also, because I didn't upload on the weekend, I hope a longer chapter makes up for that!
I still can't believe how popular this book is getting, though! I never thought it would do this well! I wish I could write quickly so I could upload more chapters because some of my ideas are so good (if I do say so myself), but I have to wait for the right time.
Anyway, I appreciate you all and hope you all have a good week!
QOTD: When do you think Five will cave in and tell Charlotte about the apocalypse?
