Persistence (3)

If anyone really knows Hiccup, they know that he isn't one to give up easily. Instead, he will keep working for what he was going for. Which is probably the main reason why he was so persistant to get the village's approval when he was younger.

And this day isn't any different. What makes this day any more special then any other day? Well, Gothi finally allowed Hiccup to start learning how to walk with a prosthetic after two weeks of bed rest. Hiccup didn't hesitate about agreeing to try walking again with the new prosthetic that Gobber made.

He hasn't ever been good with staying still. He doesn't like the feeling of not being able to do nothing. Which is what made those two weeks so horrible for him. Also because his dad was there most of the time.

Don't get him wrong, he really does love his father. It's just the silence and tense atmosphere that almost drove Hiccup insane. All conversations with his father were very short and awkward.

Hiccup grumbles to himself as he pushes himself back up from leaning on Toothless's head. Just like he has been for the longest time, Toothless was there to catch him when he falls. He regains his footing again and takes a deep breath.

"Lad, are ye sure ye don' want to take a break? This won' help you leg heal, ye know." Gobber says from his seat by the bed that is now in the living room of the chief's hut. Stoick stands next to his life long friend, watching Hiccup worriedly.

Hiccup huffs and looks away from their prying gazes. "I can... do this Gobber. I should be able to do this."

"Hiccup," Stoick sighs at his son's stubbornness. "Don't think that you have to prove yourself. It doesn't matter anymore. What does matter is that you take care of yourself while not pushing your limits." Stoick says, desperate for his son to listen.

"I'm fine." Hiccup says and goes to put weight on the prosthetic and suppresses a groan of pain as his knees buckle again. Toothless hurries to catch his rider. He coos worriedly at him and Hiccup smiles slightly at the care that Toothless expresses.

He wonders what would've happened if he had never left the forge during that one dragon raid. How different his life would've been .

I'd definitely still would be fighting for the approval of my father and the village. Hiccup thinks to himself as he pushes himself back up. He stumbles back over to the bed and sits down, feeling a weight settle on his shoulders.

Can't even walk on your own. So useless. Weak. His deeper thoughts torment him as he leans against the headboard.

"Hiccup, you need to understand tha' you need to be patient. I know how ye are. Trust me, I know how ye feel. I've been there." Gobber says and gestures to his left leg with his hook.

Hiccup sighs and looks down at his lap. Toothless coos and rests his head on the bed, his big green eyes staring up at Hiccup, trying to comfort him. Hiccup rests a hand on his head and rubs slightly.

"I know Gobber. I just don't like the feeling of... being useless. I've already had enough of that to last... a lifetime." Hiccup says, not seeing the guilty looks his father and Gobber gave him.

The whole village knows that what they did to Hiccup was wrong -all but Mildew of course. Mildew is a bitter old man. He doesn't like anybody. He avoids the village as much as he can, staying up in his hut most of the time with his sheep. Though Hiccup can't seem to remember the name of his sheep.

"Just give it time son. It'll be okay."

Hiccup sighs yet again.

"I sure hope so."
