Yore Mail
Remembering the corner mailbox.
Bear in mind that once upon a time people wrote messages on sheets of paper. These communiques were referred to as letters. Usually these letters were folded once or twice and slid inside sheaths called envelopes. The envelopes were in turn addressed and then dropped into neighborhood corner collection boxes widely distributed by a postal service that would, for a very small fee, deliver them to almost anywhere of your choosing.
the other day
while mammoth
feather crystals
floated from
a peaked sky
I thought
a thought
of ought
and decided
that I would
even in the white
trembling fist
of winter
snatch one
from its fall
and with
an icy pen
etch this missive
for stuffing
through a crack
into the black
below
where it might
mingle
with a thousand other
squalling flakes
of snow
whirling wide
and flung
far off
to in the end
alighting
melt these frozen words
before your very eyes
