like a foggy midnight's mist

that billows in across the shore

to ease its satin sheath about

some restless soul thick with fervid blood

and there the brimming tide

slid out one long wet tongue

which licked away the bits beneath my feet

until wrapped within a wave returning

drawn howling through the ocean's open mouth

and swallowed deep inside a belly black

I tumbled from myself

as so much more another

only daybreak pried away that raven lid

where sunlight settled 'round

a smoothly finished piece of crooked wood

marooned upon the strand
