Chapter 8 - Ra's Al Goul
"Good." Kayleigh pulled her and walked through to the training room.
"Jason?" Erin called, following Kayleigh.
"What?" Jason sighed as he punched the bag.
"You alright?" Erin asked, quickly realising that was a stupid question.
"All good." Jason nodded.
"Of course he's all right. Fifteen storeys of free-falling probably did him good." The girls heard Ra's voice.
Kayleigh jumped and looked around before she saw Ra's standing beside Jason. How the fuck?
Erin shook her head and ignored him,"It's past midnight, you should take it easy."
"Don't wanna take it easy. I feel good." Jason turned to them.
"More people should drop their problem children off buildings. It clarifies the mind and body." Ra's chuckled.
"That was, uh, quite the fall you took." Erin leaned against the wall, looking over at Ra's.
"Yeah, it was hellacious." Kayleigh bit her inner cheek.
"How do you think it looked from Dick's angle?" Jason asked.
"Scary." Erin sighed,"I'm... I'm sorry, okay?"
"That should do it. "Sorry" always makes things right. Ah, Rest will fix him. And a team of shrinks. Maybe some meds. Uppers, downers, in-betweens. Kid'll be right as rain." Ra's slowly walked between the girls.
"Are you sure you're all right? Erin and I, we understand what you've been through." Kayleigh nodded, turning away from Ra's.
"Cut the crap!" Jason turned to them,"Why don't you say what you really wanna say? That's it's all my fault for going out there alone."
"No. I don't think that." Kayleigh shook her head.
"A master of understatement." Ra's clapped his hands.
"Maybe you should try resting. Being on your feet isn't good after what you've just went through." Kayleigh nodded.
"Well done." Ra's applauded them
"Just think about it. Okay, Jason?" Kayleigh sighed.
Jason turned from the girls and continued training as they walked out. When they walked out, they seen Dick walking to the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" Erin asked him,"You better not be running away from responsibility."
"Yeah, and what was with the Houdini act you pulled with the others?" Kayleigh crossed her arms.
"'Houdini' is flattering. Houdini was not suicidal." Ra's pointed out.
Kayleigh looked at the Chinese the adults had bought, "... There's no egg fried rice."
"What were you thinking? Going out there alone with no backup?" Erin questioned.
"Can we not do this now?" Dick sighed.
"Now works for me." Erin stated, crossing her arms.
" I fucked up." Dick admitted.
"No shit." Erin rolled her eyes.
"Is there something you're not telling us?" Kayleigh raised a brow.
"Something to do with Deathstroke, maybe?" Erin suggested.
"There's nothing. It was just a tactical error." Dick explained.
"That's military speak for when you're boldfaced lying." Ra's told them, walking around Dick,"Take notes, kids."
"I'll take care of it." Dick pointed.
"Everything else has gone so well." Ra's smirked.
"Where are you going?" Kayleigh asked.
"I'll be back later." Dick shook his head.
"People were just shooting at you, and you're gonna go out?" Kayleigh followed him.
"There's nothing to worry about kids, just a mild psychic split." Ra's explained, following the girls and Dick, before he smirked,"Anybody need anything? Milk? Eggs? Body bags?"
"We're following you." Erin told him,"You can't be left by yourself."
"Look, girls. This is something I need to do myself." Dick sighed.
"Tough luck, you've lost that privilege." Erin shrugged.
"Just answer this, is it something to do with Deathstroke?" Kayleigh crossed her arms.
Dick eventually sighed as he got into the lift,"Yes, now stay here."
"Alright." Kayleigh hummed.
Once the lift closed and started going down, Ra's bent closer to them.
"Are you just going to let him leave?" Ra's asked the pair.
"How the fuck is this happening? You see this too?" Kayleigh asked Erin as she pointed at Ra's.
"No shit!" Erin raised her arms.
"How are you here?" Kayleigh took a small step back.
"Oh, dear. I'm not here." Ra's told her,"Or am I?"
Kayleigh looked at Erin quickly.
"Well, Dick and Jason couldn't see him so..." Erin went to hit Ra's.
"Ah." Ra's stepped back, "Ding ding, we have a winner."
"Let me smack you." Erin ordered.
"You think that will work?" Ra's shrugged.
"I never know with you because you're a sneaky bastard." Erin crossed her arms.
"You're too kind." Ra's hummed.
"Yes, take it as a compliment." Erin turned to the lift.
"Wait- We're following?" Kayleigh looked at Erin.
"Of course we are." Erin told her, pressing the button
"Right." Kayleigh stepped into the lift while Ra's watched the doors close.
"He's an asshole." Erin shook her head.
"I hate him." Kayleigh shivered.
"Well, that's not very nice." Ra's crossed his arms.
Kayleigh jumped and turned to him, "Go away!"
"Wish I could, but I won't." Ra's shrugged.
"He's gonna make me say a no no word." Kayleigh turned to Erin.
"Just say it, he'll just keep following us anyway." Erin told her as the doors opened.
"Fudge you." Kayleigh pointed at Ra's before she turned and walked out.
Ra's burst out laughing as the girls walked out before continuing to follow them down the street.
"Oi, Grayson!" Kayleigh shouted.
Dick sighed and turned his head,"I thought I told you to stay."
"They're very stubborn, sir. My apologies." Ra's smirked.
"Listen, if it's to do with Deathstroke, an assassin, you need help from fellow assassions." Kayleigh explained.
"I'm not afraid to, uh, end someone." Erin fiddled with her thumbs.
"You both had potential, you know." Ra's reminded them,"You still do~"
"Especially 600 year old Arab men." Kayleigh nodded and glared at Ra's.
Dick eventually gave in and lead the girls to a little bar which was playing some blues.
"Dick Grayson? Back from the abyss." A man chuckled
"Hey, Benny." Dick nodded, taking a seat.
"Hi Benny." Kayleigh waved and sat on the counter.
"Heard you were in Detroit. What's it been? Six , seven years?" Benny raised a brow.
"Five years." Ra's stated.
"Can't remember." Dick shrugged.
"It's been five years, you remember it perfectly." Ra's crossed his arms.
"I need information." Dick turned to Benny.
"Oh, I don't do that anymore, man." Benny shook his head,"No weapons, no hook-ups, no cop talk."
"What's that on your waist then?" Kayleigh pointed.
"The rest of the neighborhood hasn't got the memo, that's all." Benny assured her.
"I'm looking for a shooter. Guy by the name of Slade Wilson." Dick explained.
"Last time I saw Slade was down at the Peninsula gun range." Benny began to clean a glass.
"How desperate you are to cauterize your little secret, huh? Hide your little boo-boo. Too bad Bruce Wayne's butler isn't here to fix it. 'Oh, oh somebody has a nasty splinter, I'm sorry Master Grayson, but thats going to have to come out. Let me get the tweezers.'" Ra's mimicked Alfred.
"Sprinkles, just how you like them." Benny gave Dick his donuts,"Anything for you two?"
"Can I get a donut as well? And a vodk-" Kayleigh began.
"Slade doesn't do gun ranges, even I know that." Erin smacked her friend,"Don't lie to us, Benny.
"Why don't we stick his head in the deep-fryer, huh? One of you smash his head on the counter? I mean, in for a penny, in for a pound." Ra's teased.
"Shut the fuck up." Kayleigh pointed.
"Oh, she speaks." Ra's pointed.
Dick and Benny looked at Kayleigh before she speak again, rubbing her arm, "Hurry up, talk to us."
"Look, Slade retired six or seven years ago.." Benny started.
"Five years." Ra's corrected him,"Why does nobody remember that?"
"What about his handler, Wintergreen?" Dick questioned.
"I don't know." Benny shook his head.
Dick quickly grabbed Benny's gun, smashing his face into the counter and held the gun to his head.
"Happy?" Kayleigh rolled her eyes at Ra's.
"Now you're cooking, baby." Ra's clapped.
"Alright, alright! He dated these sisters. Twins. Used to anyway, one of them OD'd. But the other one runs the Scarlet Rose on Harbor." Benny winced.
"What's her name?" Erin questioned.
"Mati. Mati Matisse." Benny shook his head.
"Sounds made up." Kayleigh shrugged.
"Because it is!" Benny told them.
Erin then grabbed the gun from Dick,"I'm keeping this."
"Hey, no guns." Ra's looked at her.
"Deathstroke's a gun guy." Erin shrugged, turning to leave,"Thanks, Benny.
"Taking this. Thanks Benny." Kayleigh waved as she took the donut.
**
"Are we legally allowed in here?" Kayleigh looked at the girl dancing on stage.
"You? No. Me? Maybe." Erin told her.
"Neither of you can." Dick pointed.
A blonde haired woman walked up to them, looking them up and down, "Big boy, wanna buy me a drink?"
"Mati? Mati Matisse?" Dick raised a brow.
The woman pointed over to the corner. Kayleigh looked at the girls coming on stage before they walked over to Mati.
"Hi." Dick nodded.
The woman just looked at Dick then the two girls before turning back to the show.
"Mati?" Dick asked as he sat down.
"Tempting. But I'm not in the mood and these girls are underage." Mati shrugged.
"Look." Kayleigh nodded to Erin, pointing at the girls who were now topless.
"Cover your eyes." Erin nudged her before turning to Mati,"He thinks you and him could be friends."
Kayleigh rolled her eyes before she covered them.
"Friends need a reason. A common goal or condition." Mati explained.
"Or a common enemy." Erin told her.
"I'm sorry about your sister." Dick apologised.
"You knew Christy?" Mati questioned him.
"No. But I know Wintergreen." Dick nodded.
"Let's not say that name tonight." Mati shook her head.
"I heard you were with him... Both of you." Dick told her.
"Makes my skin crawl." Mati spat,"He killed Christy. 'Course, she let him."
"I need to find him." Dick admitted.
"Erin." Kayleigh slapped her friends arm.
"Hm?" Erin turned before looking at the stage.
My god. There was Ra's dancing with the topless women on the stage.
"Come on girls, this whole night is about you. Saving your asses. Chasing ghosts with Dick Grayson. Let's see what you got." Ra's danced.
"Amazing, aren't they?" Mati asked then.
"Who?" Kayleigh quickly turned to Mati.
"Who do you think, dumbass?" Erin nudged her before sighing,"Look Mati, we need your help."
"Why would I do that?" Mati tilted her head.
"Because once he gives me what I want, he'll be gone." Dick explained
"You guys some kind of heroes?" She chuckled.
"Something like that." Erin nodded, trying to ignore Ra's.
"My sister would've liked you three. He's at the Davis Hotel." Mati sighed.
"What room?" Dick asked her.
Mati gave him a card, "The top."
"Great. Let's go, bye Mati." Kayleigh waved and walked off.
"See? That wasn't too hard." Erin shrugged.
"Let me see the card." Kayleigh went to take it from Dick.
"No, you two are going home." Dick kept it from her.
"Why?" Kayleigh tilted her head.
"This is dangerous, I can't risk anything else happening." Dick shook his head.
"We're just as dangerous as Slade." She pointed out.
"Slade's more dangerous, he has far more experience." Dick told them.
"Will you be back soon? Not get yourself killed?" Kayleigh raised a brow.
"I will." Dick nodded,"Now go back to the Tower."
Kayleigh rolled her eyes and turned with Erin, "So Ra's enjoyed himself."
"Quite obviously." Erin sighed before turning to him,"You don't get out much, do you?"
"The castle takes up a lot of time." Ra's shrugged.
"You really have nothing better to do than to follow us about?" Erin asked, starting to walk back to the Tower.
"For now, nope." Ra's shook his head.
"Get a hobby that doesn't involve torturing and killing. Maybe start painting." Erin suggested.
"I'd rather the first two. More enjoyment." Ra's hummed.
