"So, Xian, remember Ning? You said you need a new co-worker?"
They were talking at the cafe, while waiting for their drinks to arrive.
"Oh hey! Ning, right? From last night?"
"Yes. Hi, again."
"So, you want the job?" Xian tilted his head to look at Ning.
"Y..yes, I just moved here, and I don't want to bother my sister more than I should...so, yes, please." There was a quiet determination in his eyes that made Xian like him.
"Thank god, come with me after school and I'll introduce you to the owner." He patted Ning's back and gave him a half hug.
While Xian was hugging Huaisang had spotted Lan Wangji come into the cafe and his hawk eyes had zoomed in directly at Xian. He looked at them from a distance and frowned. He didn't move at all. He just stood there glaring for some time, then he turned around and left.
"Uh, Xian" Huaisang murmured.
"Hmm?"
"Uh, I think you got trouble coming your way.."
"What?" Xian still had his arm over Ning's shoulder.
"Trouble with a capital T. Lan Wangji just saw you hug Ning and he didn't look so happy"
The moment Wuxian heard that name, he became hyper alert. His arm dropped from Ning's shoulder like he had been burned.
Oh well. He thought to himself. He didn't like the sound of a pissed Lan Wangji. In 3 times that he had met the man, he knew that he was trouble but when pissed, God knew what else Lan Wangji would do.
But outwardly, Wuxian just gave a non-commital shrug. "So? I have nothing to do with him. Why are you looking at me like that?"
Nie Huaisang only shook his head, wishing that his best friend wasn't so clueless. Then again it's the same with his brother. Super fucking clueless Jiang brothers.
He had to do something.
-----
Lan Wangji was pissed.
But more than pissed he was.. jealous?
This was a new feeling. What was with Wei Wuxian and all these new feelings he brought out in him?
After Qing had left, Wangji wanted to go to the canteen just to see if he could find Wuxian. Oh he found him, alright, except he had his arms around another man.
Almost hugging him!
Wangji raked his hands through his hair, thoroughly frustrated with the situation.
There was a race tonight and he didn't want to race while he was jealous and angry, it would end badly. So, he decided to go for a long ride to calm down. Hopefully that would help clear his mind though he doubted it would keep thoughts of Wei Wuxian in someone else's arms away for much longer, but he would still try.
So, try he did.
-----
"Uhm, guys, I think I was being followed" Nie Huaisang called their group chat, making Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian freaked.
"Where the hell are you???"
"Cheng, calm down, Sang, would you please tell us where you are right now?"
"Uhh.. promise not to kill me?"
"Spit it out already!!!
"Uh.. I'm at the race...?"
"You're lucky you're not dead yet, Nie Huaisang, I thought after the last time, at least you refrained yourself a bit!!" Jiang Cheng shouted at him, very pissed.
"Sang, hold on, we're coming, and we're taking Ning for backup."
Wei Wuxian was the one who drove them to the location of the race, he couldn't trust Jiang Cheng to be able to control himself and not get them into any other unwanted situation. Not when Nie Huaisang was involved.
He knew that his brother and his best friend liked each other for quite some time now, they just didn't want to admit it...yet.
After picking up Ning, they arrived at the service road where the race was being held, and before the car was even fully stopped, Jiang Cheng had already gone out, phone in hand, trying to call Huaisang. Wuxian and Ning waited until they found a parking space and then tried to find him.
It did not take long to locate Jiang Cheng, since he was frantic and all over the place, and when he tried to calm him down, he caught a familiar figure from the corner of his eyes.
Of course he would be here.
"Uh, Xian?" He felt a tug to his shirt, from the man that he almost forgot. Well, he forgot almost everything including his own name when that person was in close vicinity.
"Ah, yes Ning?"
"I think, Huaisang is behind that man... the one who is glaring at you?" He pointed to the direction of him.
He swiveled his head and forced himself to take a closer look, and there he was, with all his glory, perched on his lust-inducing motorcycle, oozing testosterone and sex without even trying. A graphic depiction of walking sex on a stick.
He gulped once, twice, and tried to avert his eyes to look behind the fine specimen of a male god, and failed miserably. Their eyes met and he felt like a deer caught in the headlight, he couldn't breathe.
Until Jiang Cheng looked in the same direction and gasped.
"Huaisang!" He let go of Xian's hold on him, and ran toward him.
Of course he had to follow. It was his brother and his best friend. It's not like he would strip and beg to be violated right there and then. Nope. Close, but nope.
"Huaisang!" Wuxian felt his voice falter under the gaze of the man he was trying his best to avoid, but, at the sight of a relieved Jiang Cheng and Huaisang, he finally took a deep breath.
"I found him scared shitless and spouting nonsense on the side of the road." His deep voice was really intoxicating.
Wei Wuxian knew that he was talking to him, but suddenly he felt his vocal chords had difficulty producing any sound. But finally he managed to produce a squeaky "Thank you" to Lan Wangji.
He only looked at him, his gaze drifted to his hand that had unconsciously clasped Ning's tightly. Wuxian could swear Lan Wangji's eyes become a shade darker. He looked pissed again, which confused Wei Wuxian even more.
What did I do now? Why is it every time I see him, he either looks pissed or tries to devour me...there's nothing in between.
As he looked on, a pair of slim hands snaked around Lan Wangji's body and those eyes narrowed a fraction.
"Baby, why are these people bothering you? You have to be on your top condition if you want to win this race..." she looked at Wei Wuxian distastefully, like a piece of garbage.
Of course, the cheerleader girlfriend. Wuxian thought and rolled his eyes.
Lan Wangji wanted a reaction out of Wei Wuxian so he held Qin Su's neck with his one hand and then kissed her, right in front of everyone, his other hand palmed her ass as he did so. Even though he was kissing the girl, his eyes held Wuxian's gaze not letting the other man look away.
Wuxian squirmed under Lan Wangji's piercing gaze. He was both disgusted and turned on at the same time. Disgusted because Wangji was kissing a woman in front of everyone and turned on because he kept staring at him as if he could see his very soul. Wangji ended the kiss by shoving the girl's head away from him and still kept looking at Wuxian, a half smirk gracing his lips.
Wuxian knew he should leave right then and there, but he could not hold himself from saying something snarky, just like he could not contain his muddled feelings.
"I don't think the King needs any more distraction from us a lot," he looked straight at the said person's eyes, and braced himself for the impact,"including from Ms. Bai Suzhen* here." He saw the change of the other person's gaze, from annoyed to some kind of... amusement? "Even I, a mere bystander, knows that the top athletes must refrain themselves from any activity that includes the exchange of any bodily fluids." Was that laughter in his eyes? "So, without further ado, we must bid you adieu." He bowed his head dramatically, and grabbed his speechless entourage to leave.
Qin Su needed some time to process Wei Wuxian's words, but after she finished processing it, she fumed, and tried to retaliate.
"You!" She spoke in a rather harsh tone.
"The name's Wei Wuxian, ma'am. If you would excuse us, we'll be on our way." He smirked.
But Qin Su was a petty person, so she let go of her hold of Wangji's body and walked towards Wei Wuxian and grabbed his arm. "Wangji.." she said in a fake honeyed tone "this...this peasant was trying to humiliate me.." she pouted "do something about it!!"
Wangji was amused, seeing the unprecedented event unfolding right before his eyes. Might as well take it to his advantage.
"So, what would you like me to do, darling?"
She looked at him, thinking, and back to Wei Wuxian, finally smiled.
"Why don't we do the pillion race?"
Wei Wuxian almost choked on air. Pillion race? Never in a million years would he agree to do that. It was very dangerous, not to mention he did not know any of the racers except the man in front of him. Don't tell me...
"Of course I will be riding with Wangji. You can go find yourself another person, or I can find you one, although no one was as good as my Wangji." She let go of his hand and now slunk into Lan Wangji's arm.
"He can ride with me." Another voice chirped from behind them.
All eyes now looked at the newcomer's direction.
"Su She." Lan Wangji looked distastefully at the person.
"Come, I'll teach you how to ride a pillion." He grabbed Wei Wuxian's hand before the latter could say anything.
The trio of his friends only looked at him, gawking, unsure of what to do with the events unfurling before their eyes. Before long, Wei Wuxian was strapped behind this new rider, although apparently he was not that new because some people recognized him.
"Are you ready?" The girl in tight leather shorts and a tank top stood between their respective bikes, Qin Su was behind Wangji and Wei Wuxian was behind this Su She guy.
"3...2...1...go!" She brought down the flag and both of the bikes roared to life, leaving a strong draft of wind behind.
Jiang Cheng, Nie Huaisang and Ning went near the finish line, ready to grab Wei Wuxian and flee if more trouble arose.
Unfortunately, true to her words, no one was as good as Lan Wangji, although it's only by a few seconds, but still Wangji was still the winner.
The crowd cheered loudly, and Wei Wuxian got off and wonkily walked to his friends. His legs were still shaking. But the celebration did not last long since they suddenly heard the police sirens blare close, piercing the night and dispersing the crowds.
Wei Wuxian was in daze when he felt a strong hand grip his arm and yanked him into the back of the bike.
"Hold tight."
Two seconds later, he was on another bike, but this time, it was a different feeling altogether.
---
Jiang Cheng grabbed Nie Huaisang's hand and pulled him behind the brick building to hide.
"We need to find Ning!" He hissed in loud whispers.
"I saw a girl grab him just now, I'm sure he will be fine." Jiang Cheng half pinned him into the side of the building. "Now shush, before the police find us!"
They stood in silence for some time, when Huaisang started to whisper his apology, "I'm really sorry, Cheng, I didn't mean to drag you and Xian into this...mess."
"It's fine, Sang, it's just who you are, and I'll be damned if you're not putting us in trouble at least once a week." He chuckled, not unkindly, when his eyes met Sang's. Suddenly he felt tongue-tied, unable to speak, or think. He knew he had these strange feelings every time he was near his best friend, and no matter what this little shit did, he would always be glad to pull him out of his mess, which happened weekly as a matter of fact. He just did not understand yet of what this was called, and he was not in a hurry to label anything. He just knew that he would do anything for his mischievous, gossipy, annoying best friend.
Huaisang looked at Jiang Cheng straight in his eyes. With this close a distance, all he had to do was move forward a couple of inches and their lips would meet. And he was considering it quite seriously, and inching forward unconsciously, licking his lips.
The moment their lips met, it was an awkward feeling, but not unpleasant.
But they hastily retreated from each other, and coughed loudly, before Jiang Cheng pulled Huaisang closer and kissed him again, for real this time. The sirens had stopped blaring but the two still remained in each other's embrace breathing heavily.
---
They had stopped at a back alley trying to hide from the police. It was quiet and the silence was getting uncomfortable for Wuxian."I can go from here."
"Are you stupid? If you get caught by the police you will be fined for illegal racing."
"I was never part of it. It was your stupid girlfriend who forced me."
The sirens had moved past them and were now going towards another direction away from their hiding spot.
"Hop on," Wangji said, starting his bike.
"No" Came the reply.
"You want me to manhandle you again?" Lan Wangji asked with raised eyebrows. Even with the helmet on and just his eyes visible to Wuxian, Lan Wangji had a crazy effect on Wuxian's body.
"Where are you taking me?"
"Where would you like me to take you?"
"...my workplace please."
"The cafe?"
"Is there any other place, of my employment, that you're aware of?" Wei Wuxian replied snarkily, his mood was rather sour ever since he was grabbed and put on another godforsaken bike. He would swear off bikes after all this ended.
But Lan Wangji just laughed until his eyes crinkled.
"Whoa, I never knew that you're this sassy, I thought you were soft and cuddly like a bunny.." his eyes softened when he looked at the fuming Wei Wuxian through his mirror.
"Well, for starters, you don't know me at all. You're making an assumption by yourself, judging from my outward appearance. No, siree, I ain't what you thought I was."
"Indeed." Lan Wangji's hand moved forward, as if he wanted to caress Wuxian's face, but he retracted it at the last second, and cleared his throat. "Hop on, I'll take you there."
Wei Wuxian looked at the bike distastefully, but finally got on it, not wanting to waste anymore precious time. He tried not to touch the man anywhere else apart from his shoulders.
Wangji rolled his eyes, grabbed Wuxian's hands and wrapped the other's arms around his body. Wuxian struggled but Lan Wangji was too strong.
"Hold on, bunny. I don't want you to fall off my bike"
---
When he was let off for the nth time that night, he handed off the helmet back to Lan Wangji and said his thanks, but when he turned around to leave, he felt the other grabbed his hand.
"What's with you and grabbing me all the time?" Wuxian complained.
"This marked the second time I saved your ass in a week, and I would like at least a nice thankful gesture for it." Lan Wangji smiled so brightly it almost blinded Wei Wuxian.
"What do you want?" He squeaked, almost not able to squeeze out a sound properly when the other looked at him that way.
"Dinner. Date. A proper one." His thumb was moving in soothing circles on the inside of Wuxian's wrist as if trying to calm a skittish animal. He then proceeded to lightly trace his lips with his thumbs, etching the shape and texture of it in his mind to dream about later.
"But you have a girlfriend. Why do you want to go on a date with me?" Wuxian asked.
"She's not my girlfriend"
"You sure act like a couple. Kissing and making out. And that too in front of so many people."
"Why bunny? Are you jealous?"
Wuxian snorted.
"I will show you what actual couple act like... you just need to go on a date with me," Lan Wangji smirked.
After a long stretch of silence, Wuxian finally answered. "Okay."
