Chapter 1
Y/N was beyond excited as he exited the ship, moving onto the walkway which grew into a courtyard before the majesty of Beacon academy; like the pool that collects at the base of a waterfall. Like a steady stream the students filled this pool conversing with friends from their old school, such a diverse array of colours and voices. Truly the atmosphere that brewed adventure.
An explosion of dust from his right interrupted his awe filled trance and brought his attention to an arguing trio of girls, red white and black. People aught to be careful, you never know who's team you could end up on so it would be best to maintain niceties until then.
Someone patted Y/N on the back and he turned to see his younger brother Jack, his hair electric blue to compare to Y/N's own red hair. Despite being almost identical they weren't twins and Jack was only here because he'd excelled beyond his peers and was moved forward a year, Ozpin becoming more liberal with the idea of taking on younger students. Whether Y/N wanted his little brother here or not he had yet to decide, but it couldn't hurt exactly.
Y/N ruffled his brother's hair and smiled at him "you better not cramp my style!" He said in jest.
"Don't worry you don't need any help with that Y/N" Jack lightly punched his brother in the shoulder. It'd be good for him to be at Beacon afterall Jack would be alone if he stayed home, their parents always being busy with work Y/N was responsible in their abscence.
"See any girls you like Jack? Like a bit of an older women?" Y/N chuckled nudging his brother into an orange haired girl who he swiftly apologised to glaring at the ground.
"You'll never get a girlfriend that way" Y/N was trying his best to stifle his laugh that threatened to burst forth.
"Oh I'm sorry professor love. Why don't you show me how it's done?" Jack pushed Y/N into a yellow haired girl with significantly more force than he'd been pushed with. Instead of just bumping into the girl they were both sent tumbling to the ground Y/N ending up with his face buried in her dense, almost matted, hair.
"I'm so sorry. I must've tripped!" Y/N said quickly getting off her as fast as possible and offering her a hand up. In the second it took Y/N to dust himself off he was sent hurtling to the ground again as the girl slugged him in the cheek.
A large crowd had gathered around him and the girl and the teenage murmurs of expectation gradually began to grow in volume until both him and the girl had their fists raised as a mantis raises their deadly appendages. Y/N wanted to avoid the fight but he'd already been humiliated for something that wasn't even his fault and so he felt the rage bubbling up inside his veins, the dull throbbing pf his face reminding him why he was angry. So in his rage he made the first move, a swing at her exposed stomach in an attempt to wind her, as expected she was surprised and launched a left hook at his head but his fist connected first. She wheezed for a second before throwing another punch, it hit Y/N's cheekbone causing pain to both parties involved, her punch was weaker than she wanted still recovering from her missing oxygen.
Her pathetic punch had loosened Y/N's rage and so he lost his advantage, the blonde jumped at him pushing him to the ground and straddling him, immediately he held up his forearms to protect against her punches, knowing her next move: having been in a few school fights before.
She wouldn't stop pounding at his arms now that she had the advantage, quickly both parties were tired and bruised in their respective areas but Y/N still had some reserved energy and so launched another punch, not directly at her head, but close enough to glance her cheekbone and startle her backwards into the dirt. At this opportunity he stood up panting, arms raised as his opponent got to her feet. He almost begged her to let him go, his arms were cramping and sore to the touch.
Instead however she asked him a question.
"Why did you hold back your punch?!" The anger and confusion in her voice was clear as crystal and it was evident that she felt cheated in some way.
"Because I don't want to fight you! I only tripped into you and you punched me in the face, what are you twelve years old?" Y/N made sure to hide his tiredness, weakness may only provoke her to try and cause more damage to him and he was still aching from her first volley of punches. She didn't reply instantly and instead wiped her nose on her sleeve as if she was a street boxer.
"Oh. In that case I'm sorry if i overreacted."
Overreacted was an understatement but Y/N wanted desperately to avoid further conflict and now he could see the girl clearly, pale skin, golden hair and hypnotising lilac eyes.
He simply nodded then turned to his brother and walked away, listening for any mumbling she may vocalise, not that he could defend his honour any further with his waning strength. Something about fist fights made them much more intense than normal weapon based conflict. Y/N and Jack headed for the auditorium where Ozpin made his yearly speech that introduced all the new students to the school. Y/N paid little attention to the headmaster and found himself sneaking glances at the blonde girl he'd been throwing punches with only ten minutes earlier. Without his filter of rage he now intensely regretted the fight, the girl was gorgeous and it was unlikely that any amount of apologising would fix that relationship. He sighed to himself, his father probably would've said something along the lines of 'plenty more fish in the sea' but in this case it'd be like settling for a goldfish over a lionfish, sure the lionfish is deadly but it's a whole lot more beautiful.
Y/N thought about apologising but realised this is probably a poor time with the bruise quickly developing on her cheek. Instead he focused on his brother.
"Try not to get me into another fight at least until we get assigned into teams."
Jack looked to the ground, a blush of shame quickly bleeding into his face. He wasn't angry at him though for he knew it was only the same treatment he had given him. From what he gathered Ozpin's speech was more depressing than was warranted for the first day of school. Tomorrow their teams would be picked and until then they'd be spending the night outside of dormitories.
The idea of sharing a room with so many people unnerved him, he'd never even shared a room both him and his brother having their own rooms since they were very young. It was a worrying idea that he may be unable to sleep, especially with such a big day tomorrow. Someone tapped him on the back and he looked and saw the top of a girl's head, looking down he saw a pale girl with dark hair tipped red, her eyes were silver.
"Hello?" He asked seeing the girl forget what she was going to say in awkwardness. He felt his brother peering round the side of his shoulder at the girl who seemed closer to Jack's age than his own.
"Hi I'm Ruby. I wanted to apologise for my sister" she loomed back at the blonde girl who hadn't realised her charge had wandered putting her hand to cover the side of her mouth facing her sister and whispered "Yang's a bit hot headed sometimes."
"Ruby!" Yang had noticed her sister had walked off "W-what are you doing?" She asked having seen Ruby talking with her new enemy.
"I was just telling him you're sorry so you don't have a similar situation to last time you got into a fight!" Ruby said excitedly clearly wanting to help her sister.
"Ruby I already apologised!" Yang said although I'd hardly call that an apology.
"Y/N we gotta go...and...do that thing?" Jack said tugging at my shoulder. The two girls looked at us expecting me to say something.
"Oh yeah. The thing we need to do, thank you for reminding me!" Y/N said perhaps too eagerly and turned to follow his brother, the girls quickly disappearing in the crowd of people.
Once out of earshot both boys sighed with relief.
"Thank God you exist Jack, what would I do without you?"
"Just trying to help fix the problem I caused" He rubbed his arm still feeling shame.
"Don't worry about it. It's not everyday I get my ass handed to me by a cute girl" Y/N laughed wanting his brother to forgive himself.
"You gave as good as you got. I hope you get put in a team that deserves you."
"I'm sure we'll both get good teams. I'd be happy to be in the same team as someone who tries as hard as you bro." Y/N reassured his brother making him smile "lets go get something to eat. Hopefully the food is good."
The food wasn't awful but left Y/N feeling like he'd rather spend dinner times at local restaurants or even at a fast food joint to avoid the bland taste of the cafeteria food. Right now Y/N had taken his brother to where they would be spending the night, a big hall that had taken on the appearance of a slumber party or at least his vision of a slumber party. He had his sleeping bag on the edge of the group next to his brother's they'd always been independent from other kids their age and even their own parents, he knew Jack would struggle if he was outside of his team, he hoped they'd be put together, he also hoped that he'd have a cute girl in his team but one can't have everything in life. His heart dropped as he saw Yang and Ruby walking up to him and his brother again, and he thought he'd managed to avoid any awkward conversation with them.
"I'm really sorry about earlier. You don't have to forgive me I just got angry, it was more reflex than intention" Yang surprises Y/N by speaking first she seemed almost like she was begging for forgiveness.
"I completely understand. I shouldn't have hit you back either. I guess the training these schools put us through really does have an effect." I smile glad she finally said it herself, still awkward but nothing that couldn't be solved after a few weeks together. Her and her sister then left after some small talk satisfied with the apology.
Soon afterwards the light went out and everyone returned to their sleeping bags. The chorus of snoring kept Y/N awake long after everyone else had fallen asleep. What felt like moments after he closed his eyes someone covered his mouth, their body was over his holding him down, his eyes widened in an attempt to identify the attacker but the inky blackness of the hall meant he could make out no discernable features but he could tell it was a woman and he could feel her glaring at him despite the darkness, could she see him through the blackness between them? Her hand moved for a second but was quickly replaced by her lips and in his surprise he had lost the strength to do more than refuse to kiss her back. But her smell filled his nose and he would remember that smell, in a moment she was gone, it wasn't his first kiss but he felt violated and confused by the event and his eyes failed to persue the perpetrator through the night. As he fell asleep again he wondered if it was all a dream but it had felt so real.
A/N - Chapter 1, I remember when I wrote the first chapter of a New Kid at Beacon and had no idea what my small page would grow into or what my own OC would grow into. Starting as your typical trash OC who was completely immortal for no reason and beyond edgy. Then as I grew and my page grew so did Zenith, he is not just a reflection of myself but of all of us and how far we've come together. I'm sticking to the plot points I liked and adding in some new shenanigans. So I give you this new RWBY story to make up for how awful the New Kid at Beacon was even though you all still loved it. Zenith out...
