Athena Lockwood: Part 2
Athena's POV
So Hayley and I have been stuck here all summer. We can't even transform on a full moon while pregnant. Which sucks. Also we've been stuck in the mansion all summer. Sure it has a pool, which I use often. But there's literally nothing to do. It doesn't help that Klaus lives with us. Sure he's out a lot, but I can't stand him. And I can't have alcohol to ease my mood either.
It doesn't seem like he's made any progress since the start of the summer. And I'm sick of it. I want to be unlinked from the darn witch and go home. But no, I'm stuck in this stupid place. Wouldn't be so bad if I could explore New Orleans, it sounds like an amazing place. But I can't, Klaus says it's to dangerous.
"I swore I'm going to kill Klaus Hayley, if he leaves one more drawing in my room" I state as I head for the stairs. I then spot Rebekah. "Great, just what we need another original" I grumble.
"Athena, you're the other wolf. Great" Rebekah grumbles.
"You think I'm thrilled by this?" I ask her as I stop by Hayley.
"Whatever, where's Elijah?" she asks us.
"Hell if I know" I tell her. She looks at Hayley.
"Beats me, he's long gone" she tells her.
"What do you mean, "long gone"?" Rebekah asks her.
"Well, one minute he was here making epic promises about protecting us in this predicament that a bottle of scotch and some bad decisions got us into. He was all poetic about how we're family and then Klaus told me he bailed. Guess that's what we get for trusting a vampire" Hayley explains.
"I told her how Elijah never breaks his word" I tell her.
"That's right, he doesn't break promises" Rebekah agrees. "Which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like. Klaus! Get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!" she shouts. I smirk as Klaus appears looking annoyed.
"Enough with all the shouting. Little sister, I should have known. I assume the six dead vampires were your doing?" he asks her.
"They were very rude" she tells him. "Trying to victimize a poor, innocent girl just trying to find her way to the Quarter" she states.
"How come she can kill vampires and I can't?" I ask him annoyed. I need something to take my anger out on. He ignores me
"So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends" Rebekah says.
"I do have friends. I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you" he tells her.
"I don't care about Marcel or his rules. Elijah doesn't welch on deals. What did you do to him?" she demands.
"Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs. Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I" he tells her.
"I remember everything" she tells him. She tells us the story of Emil and how Klaus killed him. Honestly, is there any of his lovers he hasn't killed aside from Stefan?
"Well, he wasn't good enough for you" Klaus tells her.
"No one was ever good enough for me, Nik. You made sure of that. Now where is Elijah?" she asks him. Klaus' phone starts buzzing. He checks it, stands and moves to leave "Where are you going?" she asks him.
"It appears the night is not quite over, yet. I'm off for another drink with Marcel" Klaus states.
"Rub in why don't you!" I snap annoyed.
"Elijah told me about your plan to take apart Marcel's empire piece by piece. I don't remember it involving you two drinking New Orleans dry together" Rebekah states.
"I know you don't have many friends, Rebekah, but what some friends do when they get together is they drink. And when they drink, they tell secrets. Marcel has somehow found a way to control the entirety of witches in the Quarter, and I aim to uncover the 'how' so I might take it for myself. Finding Elijah didn't make my to-do list today" Klaus explains.
Klaus turns and walks to the door, but pauses before he leaves. "Oh, and welcome home, little sister" he tells her before leaving. I notice Hayley sitting beside me as Rebekah looks up at us.
"You, wolf girls. I'm going to search this house inch by inch until I find what my evil brother has done to my good one. You both are helping" she tells us.
"We're not bloodhounds" I tell her. "But whatever, I'm bored" I state. She leads us to a door and we head down a spiral staircase. "What is this place?" I ask her curious.
"The governor had lots of secret rooms. I'll show you both his favorite" she states. We arrive in a dusty, cobwebbed cellar room. I notice the Mikaelson coffins.
"You think Klaus killed him?" Hayley asks her.
"We can't be killed, silly girl. That doesn't stop Klaus from finding ways to torture us. He has a set of mystical silver daggers. One in the heart sends us into a deep slumber" Rebekah explains. "Klaus gets his jollies from keeping us in a box, until he decides to pull the dagger out. That must be what he's done to Elijah. This one's mine" she states pointing to one of the coffins.
"He keeps your coffin on standby" Hayley says shocked.
"He likes to be prepared for when his family members inevitably disappoint him" Rebekah states.
"Am I wrong? Or is one coffin missing?" I ask her.
"You're right, Elijah's isn't here. Klaus must've stashed him elsewhere" she states.
"I feel sick" Hayley states.
"Oh this is nothing" I tell her.
"Welcome to the family, love. You both should've run the second you realized Elijah was gone" Rebekah states.
"Believe me, if we could we would" I tell her.
"The witches have put some sort of hex on us. As long as we're carrying these babies, we can't leave New Orleans. If we do, they kill us" Hayley explains.
"Well, knowing Klaus, he's planning a box for you both the second you give birth to whatever's cooking in your tums. I'm leaving as soon as I find Elijah. Being daggered in a box for decades sucks, trust me. You both had best find a way to break that hex and run" she tells us before leaving. I sigh.
"I have an idea" Hayley tells me. "Do you trust me?" she asks me and I nod my head. "Then follow me" she says and we left the house. We went into the Quarter and she lead me to a shop. "Hey, hey!" she shouts at the shop keeper. That appeared to be locking up.
"We're closed, sorry" the keeper tells us.
"I just need one teeny, tiny little herb. Please?" Hayley pleads as I look around.
"Which herb?" the shop keeper asks.
"Crushed aconite flower" Hayley tells her. I look at her shocked. What the hell is she up to?
"Wolfsbane? That's a poison. You're gonna kill a wolf?" the keeper asks.
"Just two little ones" Hayley states. I suppress a growl. I am not killing my baby, it's innocent.
"Give me a minute" the keeper tells her and goes into the shop.
"I'm not killing my baby Hayley" I growl.
"But no baby and we're free" she tells me.
"I may hate it's father, but my baby and yours are innocent" I tell her. The keeper returns.
"Cut it with jimson weed. A few drops in some hot tea – that should do it" she states handing Hayley a vial. Who offers her money and the keeper refuses it. "It's an ugly town for wolves. You both are doing the right thing" she tells us. We left.
Hayley made up the teas. But I refuse to touch mine. "Come on, Athena. Two upset stomachs and all this stupid drama is ancient history" she tells me.
"Who are you trying to convince? Me or yourself?" I ask her. She sighs as she looks at her cup. We hear a twig snap. We get to our feet as a vampire appears.
"Dumb move, coming into the Quarter. You both are coming with me, wolves" he tells us.
"Go to hell" I growl.
"I have had it up to here with vampires telling me what to do" Hayley snaps. She throws the cup's contents into his face, and he roars in pain. Two more vampires appear.
"I got the one on the right" I tell her. She nods her head. Suddenly Rebekah shows up, snaps the neck of one vampire and rips the heart out of the back of the other. "Seriously, he was mine?" I whine at her.
"Now, that is no way to treat a pregnant lady. I do hate bad manners" she states. We take the three vampires back to the mansion. Where Klaus starts to lecture us as he piles the dead bodies in the courtyard.
"This is why I told you never to leave the house. Werewolves are banned in the Quarter. I had a plan, and your little nighttime stroll put it all in peril!" he snaps. Rebekah goes to grab one of the bodies, as he was still alive. "Leave him!" he orders her. "You've done enough, don't you think? Leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?" he demands.
"If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed. And don't give me that crap about having a plan. You've had all the time in the world to execute a plan, and no one's seen you do a damn thing! Elijah made a deal to protect your children, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self. But you obviously don't give a damn about the children or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?" she demands.
"I have done everything. Let me spell it out for you, shall I? From the day I arrived, Marcel hasn't trusted me. From Day One, he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which, as you know, little sister, protects them from my mind control" he explains. "I needed a spy, someone on the inside with me who Marcel would never suspect. So, I created a Day Zero and got there first. Marcel had just lost six vampires, thanks to your little murder spree, and he needed new recruits. So, I made the new one mine, before he'd had even a drop of vervain" he states.
"And this one – I'm gonna drain him of vervain, compel him to believe his mates found religion and moved to Utah, so that he can explain to Marcel why he lost three more vampires tonight" he adds grabbing the one still alive. "Does anyone have any more questions?" he asks us. "No? Good, because I have a question. Athena, Hayley, what were you both doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me!" he demands.
"Leave them alone" Rebekah tells him.
"You wanna know what I was doing? I was buying poison, so I could put your little babies out of their misery" Hayley tells him. Klaus runs at her with vampire speed and pins her to the door by the neck. She gasps for air.
"Nik/Klaus!" Rebekah and I shout. We rush over to the pair. Rebekah gets him off of Hayley and I rubbed Hayley's back soothingly as she tried to catch her breath. "Keep your hands off her! She is pregnant, for God's sake! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of them? It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted" she tells him.
Klaus, calmed down but reeling from being confronted with his feelings, sits down on the stairs. Rebekah sits beside him. "I gave Elijah to Marcel" he tells her.
"What?" she asks him shocked.
"Marcel was nervous. It's bad enough one Original returned to town, but two? His crew was getting antsy. He wanted Elijah gone, so... I gave him a peace offering" he explains.
"You bartered our brother?" she demands.
"I have a plan. Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that the babies be born. I am executing that plan the only way I know how. If you don't like it, there's the door. See if I care" he says and left. I follow him. "What do you want?" he asks me annoyed.
"To tell you I never planned on killing my baby, it was Hayley's idea to kill them. I disagreed to it" I tell him.
"Why? You could of been free of this, of me. Returned home" he states.
"The babies are innocent, they didn't ask to be created Klaus. I don't care who you are, I love my baby and I will die to protect it" I tell him. "You know how strongly I care about family" I state.
"I do" he says. "I'm truly sorry about your mother" he tells me.
"I'd rather we never mentioned it again" I tell him. "We're backed into a corner and it's time to fight" I state. "But right now, I'm tired after today's events. See you tomorrow" I add before going to my room and calling it a night.
