Darkest day

"Aang, here," Suki handed him her belt sash that was tied around her waist as they were in view of a town on the boarder of the fire nation and was a little close to the temple. It was mostly soldiers that stayed and went as a deploy.

"Is this a good idea?" Aang asked concerned.

"It'll cover your tattoos," Katara nodded.

"No I mean for you to go, you were suppose to be the queen, I think they might know your face," Aang explained as he tied the sash around his forehead and his hair covered over it.

"Oh, should i stay back?" She asked confused.

"Just to be safe, if word is that the wife of the next in line to the throne is on the run they might be on the look out for you or Zuko," Suki agreed with the avatar and Katara sat under a tree while the sun set behind them.

"Alright, tell me what you find when you get back," Katara didn't argue and could understand why they thought that way.

"You got it," Aang beamed brightly as he and Suki walked towards the town.

"You got a cover story?" Suki asked Calmly getting closer and closer to the town.

"We need a cover story?" Aang asked in a squeak.

"Yes?" Her eyes widen as if it was obvious.

"I've been in prison for a few years, don't act like I know what's going on as much," Aang whined and she shushed him.

"I got it just play along, we're siblings got it?" Suki waved him off and he nodded nervously.

"I-okay, okay," Aang nodded quickly getting behind her a little as they walked into the town.

There it seemed like a normal town almost but the soldiers were partly in armored gear but also casual since they were off duty a bit with their families that were there as well. Suki offered Aang her hand and he took it staying behind her still.

"Hey, where you coming from?" A soldier immediately picked them out from the others as new strangers.

"Oh we're coming from the capital," Suki acted surprised as she glanced back at the center where there was a post stand that had posters all over for the news and wanted posters.

"The capital? Why?" The man frowned at them.

"Didn't you hear? The city was evacuated because of some eclipse and then the palace was on fire," Suki put a hand on her chest to look more fearful.

"The palace was on fire?" A woman heard as well as some other people.

"We had to evacuate immediately, I don't know for how long but we were told to go to close towns for a while, everyone went a different direction," Suki nodded wide eyes.

"My little brother and I have been walking all night, is there any word on when we can go home?" She asked sadly as Aang made himself seem innocent as possibly with his eyes down and an arm wrapped around sukis to seem timid.

"Probably not till the prince is found, the capital won't be safe for a while," another man nodded with a messenger hawk on his shoulder and rolled up poster in hand.

"The prince?" Aang frowned not understanding.

"Prince Zuko is now wanted for treason, he tried to dethrone the fire lord," the man pinned up the wanted poster. Their hearts sank and a sickening feeling was in their stomachs.

Zuko failed. But he was alive.

"Is fire lord Ozai alive? Is he alright?" Suki gasped covering her mouth.

"No one knows, no word of if he's alive or not, admiral zhao is the one that wants the princes head on a stick," the man told them as everyone gathered to look at the poster.

"That's so sad, the prince was just married and now this," a woman sighed shaking her head. "That family is full of sorrow,"

"Did anyone tell you where the prince was seen last? In the fire nation?" Aang looked over at the man with the messenger hawk.

"He was on the run they said and.. and he disappeared I guess, but there's no body so whoever finds a body gets a prize, over by the gates of azulon," the man nodded crossing his arms and Aang gulped nervously.

"It's always going to be the fire nations darkest day," the woman looked down.

"So do you two need shelter then?" The man looked at Suki and Aang curiously.

"No just food and water, we're just traveling a little longer to our grandfathers village till we can return home," Suki shook her head and he nodded understanding.

"We should have a bag of wing jerky and bread left over till from our last supplies," he went over to a house.

By the time he came back they were gone.

"I know it's the last supplies but it's still good," he mumbled looking at the food.

"What are we going to tell Katara?" Aang looked at Suki as they walked back to her.

"Ozai and Zuko are alive, one is missing," Suki nodded but Aang stopped.

"She's emotional, she won't take that well," he told her worried.

"Zukos my best friend, we need to think like him to make sure Katara is safe, he cares more about her safety than anything else," Aang explained and Suki pursed her lips.

"She would ditch the mission to go find her hubby, I know, they're disgustingly in love, I saw, but we can't lie," Suki stuck out her tongue rolling her eyes.

"She wouldn't have to know it's a lie, we can't have her run off," Aang insisted. "Just to lie so she thinks we're finding him but getting to safety,"

"I know Zuko, he'll absolutely find us before we find him, he's a good tracker," he smiled to assure her and Suki crossed her arms.

"What are we saying to her then?" She asked raising a brow unamused by him.

"Don't tell her he was last seen at gates of azulon, that's opposite of where we need to be," Aang explained and thought for a moment.

"Say he's heading east, towards the colony islands that are boarder earth kingdom, that's all we know," he bit his lip not liking to lie but he has to think like Zuko. Usually when he did that he was even more confused than usual though.

"Let's just get back and move towards the temple, we're wasting to much time," Suki tsked walking away to find Katara.

"She's not delicate, I wouldn't underestimate that water bender if I were you, avatar," Suki warned before they got to close. Remembering her wrath and a little bit of crazy, she was definitely powerful.
