Secret secret
Katara saw Zuko walk in the dinning room for breakfast the next morning as if nothing happened. He looked like he got sleep, like he wasn't dealing with a rebel assassin, Katara questioned herself almost because it felt like a normal morning.
"Morning kat," Zuko poured himself a glass of water and sat with her.
"Good morning Zuko," she raised a brow.
"Were you to able to rid of that bug last night?" Katara ate a strawberry.
"Jeez that thing was so annoying, but yea I was able to get rid of it," Zuko stole a berry off her plate.
"You mother fuckers, get off of me!" Jet was forced to walk as jong jong looked annoyed while Zuko gripped the back of hers shirt tightly.
"Literally just get him off fire nation land and keep him off, he's got a loud mouth," Zuko grumbled shoving Jet to the white lotus member.
"He's the one that attempted to kill you and the princess?" Jong jong looked down at Jet not impressed.
"I'm a freedom fighter! You can help me take down the royal family to end this war!" Jet looked up at him desperately.
"I am fire nation, under the order of the white lotus, Zuko is making sure you don't loose your life boy, be grateful," jong jong barked down at the brunette. It made Jet quiet down immediately at the harsh tone.
"Just don't kill him, I appreciate it," Zuko bowed to the fellow fire bender as the old man bowed back with a grunt.
"Just put a cup over it and let it go free," Zuko shrugged and Katara smiled a little shaking her head.
"Good," she nodded.
"So um did you want to train after breakfast today?" Katara asked with a little blush staining her cheeks.
"I have some studies to finish but I'm sure later we can," Zuko smiled gently at her.
"Kat are you feeling alright? You sure you want to train?" His smile turned concerned seeing her face getting red.
"I feel fine, why?" She was confused.
"Your cheeks are flushed, are you catching the spring cold? It is your first spring in the fire nation so it wouldn't be surprising," Zuko touched the side of her face with the back of his hand then pressed his hand against her forehead as well.
"You've been stressed, maybe you should take it easy," his hand slid back down to cup her cheek worried.
"Stop that, I'm not sick Zuko," Katara tsked rolling her eyes but didn't take his hand off. His hands were warm.
"Sorry," he blushed taking his hands off her.
"The last few days have been much so maybe you should take this time to just relax," Zuko stole another strawberry before getting up.
"Hey that's mine!" She cried out.
They looked at each other in silence. Until Zuko ate the strawberry whole sprinting out of the room as Katara jumped over the table chasing after him.
They ran down the halls but Zuko immediately came to a stop and grabbed Katara around the waist to stop her as well seeing Ozai was turning the corner with two guards behind him, Azula and Ty Lee where in the library across the hall with the doors open, Katara looked at Azula motioning too the side and the princess noticed her father as well.
"Father," Zuko bowed as Ozai passed them. Katara kept her eyes down as she bowed with her husband.
"Zuko, you need to speak to the admiral and lieutenant, bring your sister," Ozai didn't even look at him as he kept his eyes ahead.
"Admiral...?" Zuko questioned softly just so he knew who to look for while ty Lee and Azula walked over curiously.
"Admiral zhao, and I do not want to hear any disrespect from you if you know what's good for you," Ozai glared over.
"Yes father," Zuko nodded and waited for Ozai to leave them. Ty Lee peaked over the corner and gave them a thumbs up.
"Are you fucking kidding me? I'm not talking to zhao," Zuko threw his head back with a groan as Azula had a grin.
"I don't find him that repulsing, but his entitlement pisses me off," Azula flipped her hair with a smirk.
"Come on, I'm not wasting time today," she pushed her brothers shoulder.
"You going to be okay for a good couple hours?" Zuko looked back at his wife.
"Of course, the day is young, I'll just hang out with ty," Katara waved him off and wrapped her arms around ty lees arm.
"Really?!" Ty Lee squealed excited.
"Don't corrupt her," Azula glared over.
"Who?" They both asked.
"Yes," Zuko and Azula said flatly as Azula started to pull him away.
"Don't do anything I would do," Zuko called back concerned. "And take it easy, your still red,"
"Go do prince duty's geez," Katara waved him off rolling her eyes as she went back into the library with ty Lee. She didn't even know her blush was so obvious. Or was he just oblivious?
She rubbed her face stressfully as she sat down while ty Lee put some books away.
"Hey Ty Lee, can I ask you something?" Katara turned to her curiously.
"Always," the paler girl smiled back.
"It's just your so good at flirting with boys and I've never.. I um never really have ever, all the men in my village have been gone for years and I've never felt romantic with anyone, and then I got to the palace and it's still... not..." Katara struggled to find the words as ty Lee listened with a knowing grin.
"Boys are easy to flirt with, playing with your hair, looking like you don't understand things, giggling at anything they say, it's a game," Ty Lee grinned leaning against the wall of books as Katara looked confused.
"But that's only good if your looking for entertainment, not having feelings for them, a game that will be a short amount of time," she snorted standing on her toes a little and rocking back on her heels.
"You wouldn't believe me but it worked when Azula tried it and it definitely worked," she stuck out her tongue a little.
"Why? See a cute servant or something?" Ty Lee stepped closer with a big smile.
"I just started thinking about that kind of stuff since like the mai and Zuko thing... like what if he wants to have a relationship outside our marriage, I would too maybe..." Katara lied looking down.
"What?" Ty lees smile dropped immediately.
"Not like you have a perfectly good husband or anything sure let's just go straight into anyone else I guess," she mumbled to herself crossing her arms.
"What?" Katara didn't catch it.
"Do you actually want to find a relationship? Is there another man already?" Ty Lee raised a brow tilting her head to the side.
"I don't know if it's a crush or just something else," Katara played with her hair nervously.
"There is?!" Ty Lee gasped.
"Y-yes," Katara lied again.
"Yea and what's so great about him?" She narrowed her eyes at Katara.
"It's nothing serious, I've just never had a crush on anyone before, it's not exactly a love at first sight or a fairytale but it feel normal and happy, Something about him I just feel like I've always known him somehow," Katara rested her head on the table with her arms stretched out.
"So like soulmates? It's a thing fire nation believes in," Ty Lee offered sitting with her.
"Like the dragons?" She sat up.
"Yea, that's just a childrens tale though, so maybe it's just you being in love with your best friend but who knows, maybe it's not even real and just in your head, or maybe you should confess, oh well, what do I know?" Ty Lee said really fast as she put her hands behind her head with a shrug.
"Your not making any sense, like I hear you saying words but the sentences aren't forming," Katara whispered wide eyes.
"Wait wait you don't, haha you don't think I'm talking about Zuko do you?" She gasped a little and ty lees smile grew.
"It's not!" She covered her mouth.
"Who else is there?!" Ty Lee slammed her hands on the table.
"Uh-uh I um it's no one you know, this was a terrible idea," Katara covered her face embarrassed.
"Oh yea your going to ask Azula, mai? You like Zuko!" She laughed hysterically.
"I don't! No I don't!" Katara whined.
"Fine, say I believe that, then tell Zuko you want to have a relationship outside the marriage, I'll even help hook you up with a cutie," Ty Lee rolled her eyes seeing how red Kataras face was getting.
"So was it before or after the wedding you got this crush?" She asked curiously.
"Mmm I'm having a feeling it was before, but you realized after, sounds romantic, ugh and from opposite nations? Almost as good as oma and shu," Ty Lee continued as she played with her fingers.
"I don't love Zuko!" Katara cried defensive.
"I never mentioned love~" she sang. Katara realized she's fallen into the trap.
"Katara, I won't tell Azula, I won't tell mai, we're friends, just be honest," Ty Lee tried again as she touched the other girls hand gently.
Katara gulped a little and shrugged.
"Like I said, I don't know what I feel, never had a crush before," she whispered.
"And it is Zuko these new feelings are for?"
"Yea... I keep getting frustrated or maybe it's jealousy with him, when Mai kissed him it started really," Katara sighed in defeat.
"I told him once I didn't think I'd ever fall for him, never love him in a wifely or even romantic way because of how we were forced to get married, I already screwed up any chance I thought I could've had," she explained, not realizing she had so much to say on the matter. Ty Lee was the first person she was honest too about it.
"And we're such good friends! We're amazing friends and I love him for being my best friend but I won't mess up what we have now, I can't lose him,"
Ty Lee thought about it for a moment. She couldn't throw Zuko under the wagon of him in love with Katara already. She wanted them to confess to each other so bad but the idiots in love needed to do it themselves.
"Your never going to know unless you talk to him," she offered with a soft smile.
"You should take your own advice," Katara groaned as she bumped her arm against the other girl.
"Ha there's no boys that are worth my time," Ty Lee rested her head on Kataras shoulder.
"No but it seems like an arsonists is worth your time," Katara rested her head on top of the others head.
"I don't..." Ty Lee trailed off but giggled at the hypocrisy. Katara laughed hugging her around her shoulders.
"Its hard not to notice you being the one person she doesn't hate and her being the only person that you haven't chi blocked yet," Katara cooed a little as ty Lee whined.
"I don't think it'll work," Ty Lee pouted back.
"Hey you know my tribe has a few familys that worked in that situation... a lot of their husbands died or they needed help parenting, becoming familys, love is love, soulmates are soulmates," Katara squeezed her a little making ty Lee smile more.
"You think?" She whispered.
"I'll confess to my royal bestie if you confess to your royal bestie," Ty Lee looked up at her smugly.
Katara laughed pushing her away and stood up from the table as ty Lee giggled. Katara had blush on her cheeks still, her stomach twisted at the thought of telling Zuko she has feelings for him, it was terrifying and rejection was humiliating.
