Relief
Katara kissed him... Katara kissed him...
It's all Zuko could think about for the next few days, but he can't remember it happening! He didn't remember anything, when he woke up he was confused how he even got into Kataras room.
Did she... did she feel the same way?
Did he kiss her and she didn't want too?
Did he force-
Zuko sat up quickly wide eyes full of horror, he held back the nauseous feeling swarming his chest and forced himself up.
No no no he didn't do something stupid last night did he? If he did he'll never forgive himself for it.
"Kat? Katara?" Zuko called knocking on her door. She's been avoiding him, this couldn't be the reason why was it?
"Katara please open the door," he knocked frantically.
Silence.
"It's been days kat, come on I need to talk to you, please," he gulped, the door was unlocked but he wasn't going to barge in.
Zuko felt nauseous with guilt, he was starting to freak out at the silence. They talked but not about the other night. But she's kept her distance and he hated it.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry I kissed you, if I did something, if I went to far crossing the line I need to know, I never want to make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe with me you know that," he looked down at his feet hoping she was willing to listen.
"I just need you to talk to me, I'm sorry if I forced myself on you or did something bad, I didn't mean it I am so sorry Katara," he closed his eyes resting his head against the door.
It was silence.
"If there's no one in there this is really embarrassing so please open the door so I know im not being dumb," Zuko groaned a little knocking softly again.
"You are being dumb,"
Zuko looked next to him seeing Katara with a tray with a tea pot and two tea cups.
"You think I'm mad at you because of the little kiss?" She smiled at him a little.
"I-I hope not mad but yea... upset..?" Zuko opened the door for her while she carried the tray.
"I'm not upset?" Katara laughed a little and motioned for him to come in.
"Then why are you avoiding me? Did I do something else?" Zuko left the door open. His heart was in his throat.
Katara blushed pouring two cups of tea for them. He set his hand on hers.
"Please tell me, anything I did that made you uncomfortable," he looked down at her concerned as Katara gulped a little.
"It was the first time I've kind of kissed anyone, you didn't make me uncomfortable I just had to process it," Katara sighed handing him a cup. Zukos eyes widen not taking the cup.
"Fuck, it wasn't even an actual kiss," she pursed her lips embarassed.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Don't be, it's embarrassing that we're married and never even kissed," Katara shook her head as she set the tea cup down.
"I know," Zuko sighed agreeing.
"I do care about you though, a lot," he touched her shoulder gently.
"You kissed me more, our lips touched and you pushed into the kiss... is there a reason?" She looked up at him hopeful.
"Aha.. it's embarrassing," Zuko blushed looking away immediately.
"What is?" Katara didn't understand.
"It's dumb, I enjoy kissing, I like giving kisses and I like how placement can have different meanings, I like the intimacy," he sighed looking up so he didn't have to see how she'd react.
"A-and other stuff?" She blushed wide eyes.
"Not really, I just don't care for it as much, maybe cause I was with mai..." Zuko crossed his arms backing away a little. He never felt loved when they were intimate, it's not that he didn't feel safe but in a way he didn't.
"Have you kissed anyone else besides mai?" Katara gulped a little.
"Yea, her name is jin, she was my first kiss," he smiled softly. She was a kind girl in the earth kingdom, she thought he was strange but so was she, very hyper and optimistic.
"At least the last person you kissed wasn't mai now," Katara offered with a smile.
"Valid point," he agreed.
"Sorry your first kiss was kind of shit," Zuko sat on her bed with a heavy sigh.
Katara smiled handing him the cup of tea and this time he took it.
"Could always try again," she mumbled before sipping her tea. Zuko stopped just before he drank his own.
"What?! It was just a dumb idea since the first one sucked," Katara defended red in the face embarrassed before Zuko burst out laughing.
"You are going to be the end of me kat," he laughed at her a little.
"Fuck You never mind," she grumbled turning away.
"Come on let me redeem myself, I'm a good kisser I swear," Zuko teased a little.
"No Youre being an asshole," Katara pouted.
"Alright then," he sighed with a smile rolling his eyes.
"Not gonna defend your honor?" She scoffed a little with a grin.
"I don't remember it happening so there's no honor to defend," Zuko stuck out his tongue at her.
Katara sat on the bed with a glare as she pouted while Zuko sipped his tea casually. He ignored her innocently since they were back on good terms.
"Do you really not want to kiss me? Am I that bad?" Katara whined a little looking at Zuko with sad eyes.
"That look doesn't work on me kat," Zuko raised a brow.
"I think it does sometimes," she smiled leaning closer.
"Sometimes," he smiled leaning close as well with mischief. They both blushed as their stomachs fluttered, neither pulled away.
"Are You sure?" He whispered as they were inches away from each other.
"We're still friends if we do right? You won't hate me?" Katara looked at him lips and back at his eyes. She was so nervous but she wanted too, she wanted him. She begged to herself that it wouldn't be awkward between them, it stays platonic if they could.
"I'm never going to hate you," Zuko pushed her hair behind her ear and cupped the side of her face. He pulled her close but didn't touch lips.
But she closed the gap and pressed her lips against his.
Zuko felt like he could collapse with her against him, he wanted her close, he wanted to taste her, be surrounded by her. He loved her and to kiss her felt like... he felt everything that made him want more. Pushing forward to kiss her deeply as Katara gasped into the kiss.
"Zuko," she whispered against his lips as she wrapped her arms around him so she could steady herself.
"I love you Katara," he breathed gasping for air.
Katara looked into his eyes surprised. He wasn't drunk this time, he had feelings for her..? After everything they went through.
Katara kissed him again deeply as her hand caressed his cheek, her fingers tracing his scar as Zuko groaned into her mouth and pulled her closer.
"Do you want to stop?" Zuko pulled away slowly, their hands stayed on each other as they couldn't take their eyes off of each other.
Katara gulped a little catching her breath, her heart was racing she couldn't think, his hand was warm and comforting on her face, his thumb brushed under her bottom lip.
"You love me?" She whispered in shock still.
Zuko swallowed a lump in his throat as he stared at her. He nodded.
"Just now?" She asked.
"I've been in love with you," he whispered.
"For how long?" Katara sat up running a hand through her hair, she felt so hot. She touched her lips looking down.
"I-I don't know, before we got married... i understand if you don't feel the same but.." Zuko looked away embarrassed and shameful.
"I love you, I've never felt this way for anyone, I love who you are and how you make me feel," he closed his eyes.
"I think you are the most beautiful woman I've ever met and your such a good person, your strong and brave and fun to be around, how could someone not fall in love with you," Zuko inhaled a shaky breath.
Katara felt a tear run down her face, Zuko looked up when he didn't respond and saw her crying a little, she wiped her tears but they kept coming.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you," Zuko panicked holding her face with both hands to wipe away her tears.
"It's okay I promise, I've never had someone tell me I'm worth that much to them, I'm overwhelmed, but I'm not upset," she laughed with another few tears.
"I didn't know I meant that much to you Zuko," Katara held her hand against his.
"You mean everything to me," he smiled softly.
"I think I'm starting to fall for You too..." she nodded. "I think I get a little jealous sometimes,"
"If you're just saying that to not hurt my feelings it's okay kat," Zuko bit his lip nervously.
"I'm not in love with You yet but I know I have feelings for You Zuko, one day I'm going to be in love with You," Katara smiled brightly at him.
Their lips touched once again but there was no anxiousness this time, there was relief. It was sweet and slow and kind, light like a feather and caring.
"I never thought I'd love my wife," Zuko teased a little.
"Never thought I'd fall for my best friend, much less my husband," Katara laughed kissing him again.
