Questioning
"I'm going to hurt him," Katara paced through the room as Zuko put on his shoes.
"I don't think jets going to be there," he told her not phased by her violent intentions.
"If he is im going to kick his ass, I thought you took care of it?" She spun to him enraged. Not with Zuko but at the thought that this wasn't over.
"I did," he looked down distracted by his thoughts. It sunk in he was limited on time, this situation was the last thing he needed now that he realized what was starting to happen.
"Shit," Zuko stood up panicked, catching his wife off guard.
"What?" She followed confused.
"The invasion is coming kat, it's so close and this shit is-" he cut himself off inhaled a sharp breath clenching his jaw. He got a pounding headache from the stress that hit him like a brick.
"I know," Katara touched his shoulder gently. "Let's just get through this together today, your probably right that jets not back,"
Zuko looked at her softly and nodded with a small smile. She smiled back reassuringly and grabbed his hand to lead him to the door so they could meet with Azula.
They laced their fingers together and Zuko squeezed her hand a little more and she walked closer to him calmly. They almost had their own language, or maybe they were just that good at reading each other, maybe both, the trust they put in another was strong enough as they watched over each other's shoulder and had the exact same thing in mind without saying a word.
"Zuko," they heard Azula.
"I'm a little early," he turned over to the door his sister only stood in front of.
"No Ty Lee or mai?" Zuko asked.
"They're in there already," she motioned back.
"So what makes you think any of these people are assassins? Are they earth kingdom?" Katara asked before they went in.
"We've had multiple servants mixed bloodlines from different colony's and islands, they do the dirty jobs, but I can sniff out the weak and the dirty any day, I have a feeling," Azula had a determined look on her face.
"And I know when we have a rat, I'm always right,"
The couple looked at each other and Zuko opened the door for the girls as he saw five people laying on the ground on their stomachs with their ankles and wrists tied behind their backs. A gag over their mouth and blindfolds over their eyes.
"Ty Lee chi blocked all in case they were benders and paralyzed their shoulders and below," mai explained boredly as she and the brunette stood by.
"Take the blindfolds off," Katara said with a glare. Zuko crossed his arms standing just behind her.
There was three boys and two girls, a black hair slim face boy, a sun kissed golden eye brunette boy, and a dusty brown haired boy with grey eyes. One was silent, one was crying, and one was angry. And the two girls; one was a red head and grey eyes who looked confused and scared, and a black hair girl that was also terrified.
There was weight lifted off their chests not seeing Jet.
"Recognize any of them?" Ty Lee asked breaking the silence.
Zuko looked at the black hair boy with a slim face. Their eyes locked and Zuko remembered him, he was the one that was holding back Yue but she escaped his grip. He didn't look cruel.
"No," he rasped.
"Can I talk to them all? Alone?" Zuko asked looking at his sister.
"Why?" Azula didn't budge.
"I just want to see if I can get a reaction out of them with some questions, if they know anything from that night I'll know," he told her calmly. "I have a feeling,"
Azula hesitated but she nodded leaving with ty Lee and mai following. Katara was about to join but Zuko grabbed her arm but kept his eyes ahead. She understood and stayed.
"Make sure the door is locked," he whispered watching each of the suspects.
Zuko sighed sitting on the ground with the hostages while Katara locked the door to make sure no one came in, she stayed by the door waiting to see what zukos plan was.
"So which one of you are jets friend?" Zuko sighed rolling his eyes. Two of the boys breaths stopped.
"Got it, I'm guessing he's left you up in the dust for a while?" He looked at the two boys raising a brow.
The dusty brunette glared.
"He's dead, so don't hold your breath, I killed him," Zuko shrugged a little. The two yelled behind the gags in shock.
Katara noticed something off with the red head. There was something about her, maybe cause zukos attention isn't on her but she wasn't a loyal servant, but maybe not with Jet either.
Zuko reached over and removed the gag on the two boys and one tried to bite him.
"I know you were there when Yue was attacked too, were you going to kill us both?" Zuko glared down at the slim faced boy.
He was silent.
"He's mute dumb fuck," the other boy snarled.
"Then answer the question," Zuko looked at him.
"The water tribe wasn't suppose to be involved," he scoffed.
"Zuko," Katara walked over to him.
"We can't have those two in here," she whispered in his ear kneeling down to his level.
"The red head?" He whispered back into her hair.
"Keep her," she gave the girl a glance. Her grey eyes glared back.
The two royals went and covered the innocent servants eyes and Katara found a way to cover their ears as well. Katara knelt down in front of the red head curiously.
"You didn't work with Jet did you?" She smiled softly to show kindness when she pulled the gag off.
"I'm not saying shit, traitor," the girl snapped moving her head away.
"Traitor? What do you mean?" Katara gulped confused now.
"Suki don't," the smaller boy hissed. The red head glared at him but kept her mouth shut.
"So You know each other, what's your names then?" Zuko tilted his head to the side.
Silence.
"Do you want to know how Jet died?" Zuko glared a little. The tension rose in the air as the two boys looked horrified.
"I'll tell you about Jet if you just give me your names," he sighed a little.
The smallest one of the three looked at the prince with a trembling jaw in defeat and inhaled a shaky breath.
"I'm smellerbee, that's long shot, we're freedom fighters and Jet was our leader," he sighed resting his chin on the ground.
"And her?" Zuko motioned to the girl.
"Suki, we hired her to join us for vengeance for the avatar," smellerbee gulped.
"Vengeance for the avatar? Why?" Zuko frowned.
"I'm the leader of the kyoshi warriors," Suki scoffed and Zuko tsked nodding.
"Kyoshi, makes sense," he snapped his fingers.
"Jet?" Smeller bee asked.
"Look man, your not gonna like it," Zuko rolled his eyes.
"You fucking monster what did you do to him?!" He screamed in rage.
"Smellerbee stop," Suki glared back at him.
"She's been worried for Jet for days, please don't take it personal," she sighed a little looking at Katara knowing she'll be more sympathetic.
"Wait your a girl?" Zuko blinked. Katara smacked him in the back of the head.
"Yes I'm a girl you dipshit!" She screamed louder.
"Obviously?" Katara agreed.
"Sorry," he rubbed his head in pain.
"What did you do to Jet?" Smellerbee snarled again.
"Oh he's fine, my friend said he's alive like last week," Zuko waved her off and everyone's jaws dropped.
"YOU LYING FUCKING-"
Zuko put the gag back on smellerbee as she struggled against her restraints.
"Alright that's enough," he snorted a little.
"Is Jet really alive?" A new voice came in.
Zuko looked at long shot who spoke for the first time since they've been in the room.
"He is, Katara and I have told him multiple times to get his friends here and leave, my father would kill you all and even those innocent servants if he had any idea that you were apart of the attack," Zuko nodded softly.
"I'm not my father, I have friends that took him away from the fire nation so I hope to fucking Agni he doesn't return, I might've spared him but he didn't take my warnings," he crossed his arms closing his eyes a little. He was tired of this all.
"We can't promise you will leave safely, Jet shouldve taken you guys when he had the option," Katara pulled her legs to her chest.
"I came to free the avatar, not to kill you and definitely to not harm any water tribe," Suki struggled a little against her restraints.
"And I don't trust someone who is loyal to the fire nation after them slaughtering our people," she glared at katara.
"I'm not loyal to the fire nation?" Katara made a face.
"Then why work with him? I've been watching you both," she grunted.
"There's a lot more to the story than you know, Zuko isn't the enemy here, I use to be like you guys a long time ago so trust me when I say your opinion can change," Katara gulped a little and Zuko glanced at her curiously.
"Aang isn't in the palace so You wasted your time and-" "oh I found him already when he was in the palace,"
Zuko looked at Suki in shock. That was not what he was expecting.
"And?" He slowly questioned.
"Said to stand by till next week for something," she tsked annoyed.
"Do you know what?" He urged a little.
"No, but I trust the avatar, he stopped at kyoshi island a few years ago where we met, Jet and I met a month before the wedding and asked if I could join after he told me his assassination plan, I gave him the poison knowing he'd fail otherwise," Suki frowned. The prince was slightly impressed, she had a point, she was definitely skilled as a warrior.
Zuko looked back at Katara unsure, he walked over and untied the warrior and helped her sit up knowing she couldn't do it alone.
"We have further matters to discuss miss Suki, stick around why don't you?" He raised his brow intrigued and leaned her against the wall.
"We're on the same side," Zuko whispered in her ear for only her to hear and she stayed quiet. Nodding to agree.
"Now for You two, what am I gonna do with you?" He looked back at the other two.
"We can't do what we did to Jet, Azula has suspects but she doesn't know Jet escaped, but they need someone to take the blame," Katara told him softly and he nodded.
"We have to think fast," she sighed nervously.
Zuko was quiet trying to think fast for a plan, he knew these people wouldn't care if he was dead or alive in the end, he knew they wouldn't be grateful. But he didn't want to throw them to an execution knowing that was the only punishment they'd get. Especially with Jet gone.
"Katara take uh-" "Suki" "take Suki with you, your her alibi so she isn't a suspect, same with the other two servants," Zuko looked at his wife calmly. Katara didn't understand but nodded anyways.
"Can you walk?" Katara asked the red head. Suki moved her fingers and soon was able to move her foot, she grunted trying to stand with Kataras help back to her feet.
"Don't say anything when we go," Katara told her.
"Your still a traitor to me, I don't respect you, water tribe or not," Suki ripped her arm back and walked to the door to wait.
Katara rolled her eyes and she freed the other two servants and helped them up after removing the blindfolds and gags.
"Good news, you get to go home early today, sorry if this scared you a bit," Katara smiled awkwardly to the boy and girl.
"I-it's alright princess, please forgive us for being suspicious," the boy bowed to her shaking a little. The girl bowed as well.
"It's fine," Katara made a face nervous for how awful it made her look to them for being suspects but she led them out with Suki.
"Katara? What's Zuko still doing?" Azula glared seeing the in law with three servants.
"He's not sure with the last two but these ones are clear," Katara shrugged a little keeping a straight face.
"Clear?" mai made a face.
"Clear," she narrowed her eyes.
Katara told the three servants to leave but she watched Suki head out the door but turned opposite of the other servants.
Zuko finally opened the door with his head down and hair covering his eyes as he was quiet when everyone looked at him.
"It's them, they were the ones that wanted to assassinate our family,"
