"I chickened out," Niall sighed.
Louis furrowed his eyebrows, "What do you mean? With Liam? Is he still there?" he asked.
"Yeah, hence the reason I'm whispering. We both passed out on the couch last night. He's in the kitchen right now. I was gonna make a move yesterday but I got scared," he told his friend.
Louis bit his lip, not quite knowing what to tell him, "I, uh, I don't know. Just... do it now, then," he shrugged, leaning against the counter, "I got to go, Harry and I are driving down to see family. He said yes, by the way, if you were wondering," Louis smiled proudly.
"That's amazing!" Niall gasped, "I've taken too long, we'll talk later," he said before hanging up.
Harry emerged from the bathroom, "I hate this cast," he grumbled, but couldn't help the smile that came to his face when he slipped into Louis' embrace. The older man took a hold of his hand, locking their fingers together. He brought his hands up to his lips, and kissed one of the fainted scars on his wrist, then the knuckle the ring was on. The gesture made Harry smile, and he turned his head to kiss Louis softly on the lips.
Meanwhile Niall had just leaned against the counter next to were Liam was sitting on top of it. He was sipping on his tea and trying to thinking of what Niall had wanted to tell him the night before but didn't get to. "Hey N-"
"Liam," Niall cut him off, moving so that he stood in between his friend's legs, "don't hate me," he said, his voice quiet. Liam looked at him in confusion, but before he knew it Niall's lips were on his, his hands cupping his cheeks. Liam was undeniably surprised, but sighed against Niall's lips and kissed back, moving his hand to wrap around the blonde mans waist. Niall took the older mans bottom lip in between his own, and both were slightly panting as they pulled away.
Their foreheads leaned against each other's. A minute passed until Liam's eyes widened, "Oh my god, I-I, Niall, w-we can't," he stuttered, realization of what he just did dawning on him. He looked to the side frantically, for some reason scared that someone saw them when they were alone.
"Yes we can," Niall breathed, kissing Liam again. Liam kissed back for a second, but then shook his head and pulled away.
"No, I have a girlfriend," he protested, getting down off of the counter, and rushing around to grab his jacket, phone and shoes. He shoved his feet into his shoes, and threw his jumper on as he reached the door. Niall was on his tail, following him blindly.
"Liam, please-"
"No, Niall I... I-I...." his voice trailed off, seeing the shorter boy looking at him with a look of sadness and loss. He sighed, dipping his head down to kiss his friend one last time. He cupped Niall's cheek, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips and then forehead. "I'm sorry," he whispered, seeming to want to say something else. But he just closed his mouth and exited the house, allowing Niall to shut the door and bang his fist against the wall in frustration.

"I'm nervous about Niall. Well, Niall and Liam," Louis bit his lip, "aren't you? Cause I mean, Liam and Sophia's relationship is kind of on and off, but last we knew they weren't together. Unless they got back together and didn't inform us. Oh god, I don't know. Why did I tell him to make a move without knowing? I'm such a bad friend, he's going to hate me if things went wrong," Louis groaned, running his hand over his face.
Harry reached over the console, grabbing his fiancé's hand and running his thumb over his knuckles. "It's fine. I mean yeah I want to know how things went but even if it didn't go well you can't blame yourself. You did nothing wrong. Niall wouldn't blame you. And even though I don't like it, he'd most likely end up blaming himself," he told the older man.
Louis nodded, "Yeah, yeah. Okay. You're right. It's fine. I was just worrying too much," he sighed, and pulled into his mums driveway.
Both boys got out of the car, and despite Harry almost being practically healed, Louis rushed to his side to make sure he didn't hurt himself. "Wait!" Harry gasped, "that's why you had my ring? The promise ring? When I first got out of the hospital? Is that really why you had it?" he asked, a smile on his face.
Louis furrowed his eyebrows, but then went into realization, "Oh! Uh, well at first yes but that was before you even woke up. It was about a week into your coma that I had the ring picked out and fitted. I uh, when I saw you unconscious or whatever a coma makes you, I kind of thought how much I needed you and I just thought that it would be the right time of our lives to uh like, get married or at least be engaged or something. So, I got the ring fitted from that one. But the second time I had it was just to remind me of you when I wasn't visiting you at the hospital," he told Harry sheepishly. Though the younger boy just smiled fondly, and pulled Louis into a hug, adding a kiss to the cheek before they walked the remaining distance into the house.
"Honey, I'm home!" Louis shouted, walking into the kitchen and waiting a second before his siblings all came down along with Dan.
"Hey, Lou!" Dan smiled, greeting him with a hug, "did you do it?" he mumbled in the boys ear.
Louis pulled away from his stepfather, nodding with a grin. "Yeah," he breathed. "Hey. Where's mum?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Upstairs," he said, "heya, Harry," he smiled, greeting the curly haired man when he could before he was whisked away by the twins.
"They love him," Dan chuckled, leaning against the counter. He crossed his arms, and tilted his head, "so I take it it went well?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
Louis' face broke out into a grin, "He said yes! I can't believe it! I was so nervous and I had exactly what I was going to say, but then I forgot it all and winged it, but he loved it and got emotional and said yes and... it was just amazing," he sighed, hopping onto the counter.
Dan nodded, "I'm proud of you," he told Louis.
"Thanks," he replied, "we're telling everyone today. I'm honestly kind of scared about how soon mum and Anne are going to start planning," he laughed.
Dan chuckled, "I bet ten that it'll only take her one day."
"I bet one minute!"
"One minute for what?" Jay came around the corner.
"Nothing," both men said in unison.
Louis jumped back onto the ground, and sauntered into the living room. Harry was sat on the couch, watching the two girls play "Just Dance" on the Wii.
"Angel, do you want to tell my mum now or later?" he mumbled, leaning over the side of the couch. Harry gasped, and was up in an instant. They went back into the kitchen where Louis' parents and now Lottie stood, or sat.
Louis wrapped his arm around Harry's waist, smiling up at him before looking to his mother. "We have news!" he grinned.
"Louis, if you say Harry's pregnant I'm sending you right back to health class," Jay stated, causing her son to laugh.
"No, no, that's not it," he looked to his fiancé, "show her," he mumbled.
Harry stepped forward, proudly showing Jay the band around his ring finger. She examined it, and it took a second for her to realize that it was an engagement ring. She gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed, "you proposed! Oh god, let me see! This is amazing! I'm so happy for both of you!" she gushed, hugging both boys before looking at the ring again. "It's beautiful! I'm very proud," she nodded, "well, now you've got a wedding to plan soon, boys! Don't worry, though, most likely Anne and I will be doing all the hard work for that anyway!" she waved her hands.
Louis let out a laugh, pointing to his stepfather, "One minute! I told you! Pay up, old man!" he laughed.
"Aw dammit, I thought I had that one!" Dan chuckled.
"What's going on?" Jay and Harry asked at the same time.
Louis shook his head, "Dad and I bet how long it would take you to start planning the wedding already," he smiled sheepishly, earning a smack on the arm from his mother and a playful eye roll from his fiancé.
"I love you," Harry leaned down a bit, pressing a kiss below Louis ear.
The older man turned around, hooking his arms around Harry's neck as he placed a kiss to his jaw. "I love you too, angel."

The two girls gushed over the ring, squealing and hugging the two boys. They had just told Anne and Gemma about them being engaged, and as predicted they went ecstatic just like Louis' family.
But thankfully after a while they were done with telling their families, and we're then driving through the town, recalling places that they remember being.
Louis had parked the car along the sidewalk at their high school, where so many things had once taken place. Whether it was bad, or good.
"Remember when you asked me to prom here?" Harry asked, looking out to the big apple tree out upon the large area of grass and other trees.
The older man chuckled, breaking free from Harry's grasp and running under the tree where it happened.
"I'm scared. He'll say yes, won't he? He has to!" Louis shook his hands out, talking to himself, nervous about what he was going to ask Harry. Though when he saw the boy pulling up and getting out of the car that Niall had brung him in, the nerves went away.
He saw Niall reach over and place the halo on top of Harry's head. Harry looked confused, but didn't take it off as he walked further. He spotted Louis, and read the sign he held.
"I've never asked anyone to prom before, so I'm going to wing it and ask an ANGEL.... Prom?"
Harry put two and two together, realizing why he wore an angel halo. His face broke out into a grin, and he covered his mouth with his hands, laughing.
Louis walked towards him after putting the sign down, all dressed up in black skinnies and a white button down. "How about it, angel?" he asked, tilting his head.
Harry nodded, "Yeah," he chuckled, "yes I'll go to prom with you, Louis," he smiled.
Louis sighed in relief, and smiled, leaning up to press his lips to Harry's, who in return wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's waist and kissed back.
"That was a good day," Louis nodded.
Harry smiled, agreeing, "Yeah. Right at this exact tree, too," he sighed.
Louis chuckled, "And now, we're engaged."
"Now we're engaged," Harry echoed softly, "and I couldn't be happier."
Louis hugged his fiancé, resting his head against his chest. "Me neither."
