Chapter two: Girl's day!
We get a good introduction to Yumie and a new character who's gonna show up a lot!
Trigger warning: the grape attempts to touch a no no square but he leaves rather quickly this time.
--------------
"Who're you texting Kuro?" Yumie giggled, leaning on my shoulder while we walked.
My phone buzzed with another message from Kaminari, who had been texting me almost nonstop since we'd gotten out of school.
"The same person I've been texting since we left," I shrugged. "Anyway, are you going to actually let me walk or...?"
She huffed but straightened out, stepping lively as she did so. "Well if you're done being so dull and dramatic, the boss gave us the rest of the day off! You know what that means!" She squealed, and I laughed.
"Yeah, yeah. We're having a girl's day. Fine by me. Where do you want to go first?"
She laughed and took my hand, leading me to the train station. "Girl, we're just going to go places!"
I rolled my eyes but let her guide me, knowing I wouldn't get a better response than that.
"Alright now you've got to tell me all about your first day," Yumie giggled. "Seriously you had no hopes for anyone there and now you're actively texting a boy from your class! If I didn't know any better I'd say you like his company!"
"Yeah, cause he reminds me of someone," I smirked, looking up from my text thread with Kaminari.
"Oh? Who?"
"You. You're both hyper, wouldn't be surprised if you're both idiotic at times, and you're both chaotic."
"Aw, you're so mean sometimes!"
I shrugged, taking a seat in the train car. "At least I'm honest. You could learn a lesson from that."
She pouted at me, but her frustrations were forgotten as her phone started to buzz.
"Oh? Who's texting you now?" I asked, answering another text from Kaminari.
She cocked her head as she checked the notification, giggling as she read it. "Wow, Riku was asking if he could come along with us. Aw, he says he missed you!"
"Then tell him to meet us at our favorite ramen shop! We'll be there in five minutes so tell him we'll wait for him."
"Aw, so no girl's day?"
"Yumie, I haven't seen Riku since his last mission. I talked to you this morning."
She sighed, but agreed to meet Riku at the shop.
The rest of the ride passed by rather unremarkably, and while there were moments of mild alarm, nothing truly memorable occurred.
"Alright girlie, we have arrived!" She exclaimed, jumping out of her seat. I followed suit, and we exited the train car within a decently sized crowd.
"We really need to get together more often," I said as we turned the corner to get to our meeting place. "Not only am I kind of hungry, but it's nice doing this."
She laughed and opened the door for me, and we glanced around the room for our third party.
"Riku!" Yumie called. "Where are you sitting?"
Our phones buzzed at the same time, having received a text from him.
Riku:
I'm sitting across the room from you. Keep it down I can hear you from here.
Yumie grabbed my wrist and dragged me over as I typed out a response.
Kuro:
Okay okay, sorry :p headed over
Riku seemed to watch as we approached his table-although that may have been a poor word choice since he couldn't see.
"Long time no see Kuro. I heard you're a student at UA now."
I nodded, taking the seat across from him. "That's true, unfortunately. I won't have the time to hang with y'all as much."
Yumie, who'd taken the seat next to Riku, dramatically grabbed my arm from across the table. "So we're taking all the chances we can get!"
"Of course. I'm glad you decided to meet with me. I wish to hear about what you've been up to."
"Kuro's been texting a boy from her class ever since she got out! I think she's gonna get some new friends!"
Riku chuckled, as if doubting Yumie's words. "Our Kuro, having a life outside of us? Hard to believe. Are you pulling my leg?"
"Normally I'd say she was and laugh along but this time it's true."
Yumie and Riku quieted, and at first I assumed it was because they were focused on eating their food.
"Hey, Shiro! I didn't expect to see you here!"
I hadn't expected to see Kaminari so soon after class either. "It's a small world, Kaminari. Nice to see you."
Yumie almost launched herself out of her seat, tackling Kaminari in a hug. "You're the Kaminari that Kuro's been texting!"
"Yeah, who're you?"
Yumie released Kaminari from her hug and grinned. "The name's Yumie! If you're able to get Kuro to waste time on her phone you've gotta be cool!"
"Those two are remarkably similar," Riku laughed. "You have an interesting taste in friends, Kuro."
"Well hey Kaminari, you're already famous!" Kirishima chuckled. I hadn't yet noticed him. "What do we call you?"
Yumie and Riku shared a look, and for good reason. In our line of work, names are precious. Just knowing a name could give you power over an individual.
But again, this is Yumie.
"Yumie and Riku, the unofficial serpentine heroes!"
I had to restrain myself from rolling my eyes. She'd been calling the two of them that for ages.
"Oh? What are your quirks?"
Riku fell silent, letting Yumie talk about her quirk.
"Say, Yumie, I'm gonna do some catching up with Riku. We got some thinking to do."
"Oh, alright. I'll see you later then, Yumie," he said, standing up to follow me outside of the shop.
Almost as soon as we were out, my phone began buzzing-most likely concerned messages from Kaminari. I'd get to them later.
"Why'd you say that? I was fine, honestly Kuro. But thanks."
We linked arms as we walked down to a nearby park. With families being free from the burdens of work and school, it had a fair amount of parents with their kids, so we just stuck to the swings.
"You know, I think Yumie was on to something."
"Whatever do you mean? Is this about the hero course I'm taking?"
He nodded, swinging his legs as he spoke. "You are well aware of things that I don't enjoy discussing and you do enjoy helping out with the boss when you can."
"Okay, what's your point?"
"Well, there's gotta be something bigger than you out there. I don't want anything to hold you back."
I was going to respond, but..someone interrupted.
"Wow...the standards at UA have to be pretty high to let someone like you in.."
Riku looked around for whoever spoke, and I did the same, until I saw a stranger trying to touch places he shouldn't.
"Get away, you creep!" I exclaimed, absorbing the green color of the swing I'd been sitting on. "Or I'm going to blast you to kingdom come!"
A crowd had started to form around us, and so he left quickly. But the absorbed color had to be released soon, so I simply aimed up and made fireworks.
"Well, that was weird. Do you know who he was?" Riku asked, shaking his head. "We could take care of him, you know."
I laughed at the idea of what "taking care of" might mean. It was tempting. "I think it was Mineta. I beat him during the UA entrance exam."
"Well he would be...an interesting statue, should he bother you again. Let me know."
"I might just take you up on that offer. From what I've heard he was a problem in his old middle school."
"Well, should we be off? I'm sure Yumie would want to have a girl's evening."
"Perhaps. Let's go back to the apartments and we can do something there."
The walk was a pleasant one, and though we didn't see as many people walking about, there was no fear in our walk.
"Well, you and Yumie have fun. I'll be at my place if you need anything."
"Thanks Riku! I'll call you tomorrow before I go to class."
He waved me off and entered his apartment. I followed suit, opening the door to find pink and purple lights, a stack of chick-flicks, and activities perfect for a girl's night in.
We weren't gonna get much sleep.
