Sylvain's eyes shot wide open, the sound of groaning and discomfort combined with pain aroused her light slumber. Beside her the queen tossed and turned till she finally cried out. Unknowing of what was happening, the little dragon whimpered in fear and clawed at Thranduil, trying to wake him up. The king only shifted in his sleep. After many more attempts, and tears from the queen, Sylvian tried one last thing. Raising her tail high she slapped the king as hard as she could and the king bolted awake with a vicious snarl.

"What in Eru's name?!" Sylvian jumped apon him and cried loud in desperation.

"Thranduil!" Lanika gasped.

"My love!" He rushed to her side. "What is it...Is it the baby? Stay here. I shall fetch the healers."

With a quick kiss on the lips he was gone, leaving the queen alone as she tossed in pain and agony. Sweat beaded apon her forehead and she groaned as ripples of pressure spread through her body. Nudging her hand, the dragon purred and licked her fingers, trying to bring peace. And it was so. The pain seemed to retreat a bit, not as strong yet still uncomfortable.

"Oh dear little dragon...my thanks...Quick!" She whispered." Go, be unseen...Get out of sight or they shall see you!" She shooed the dragon away as footsteps rushed to the bedroom. Diving under the bed, Sylvian did not move a muscle. Moments later the queen was taken out on a stretcher, Thranduil running by her side, murmuring encouragement.

Once all had departed, the little dragon stealthily crept out from under the bed and cried softly as she watched both her caretakers leave her. Small, dragon tears dripped from her eyes, as she wondered if she would see them again...after all...she was still a baby and they were the only family she knew...

Thranduil paced outside of the doctors room. It had been an hour since his wife went into the healer's room. Frantic, he pulled at his long blond hair, muttering prayers to the highest, Eru.

" Quick! Get me that vial!" the doctors muffled voice called from inside.

" She is not going to make it." another answered. Lanika cried out in pain from in the room. Thranduil wrung his hands in desperation,  then he saw Sylvian padding from around the corner of the hall. Horror struck the king as he realized none in the castle knew she even existed. She trotted to the door and pushed it open with her paw and walked in.

" Sylvian! No!" He cried and rushed in after her. The doctor yelled in fright and rushed away.

" Halt! Do not run!" Thranduil commanded. Everybody froze in place, not daring to move anyway.

" Sylvian! Get back here." The king hissed, But the young dragon ignored him. She left onto the bed and nudged the queens hand. The queen opened her eyes a tiny bit and gave a faint smile as she rested her hand on Sylvian head. Raising her small smooth head, Sylvian blew upon the queens face. A few moments passed painfully. the queen gasped and a wail cut the air.

The queen soon held her newborn son. Thranduil knelt by her bed. Turning to the dragon he scooped her up in his arms and embraced her.

" Never again will I doubt you little one." He whispered to her. Letting her go he knelt once more before his wife. " Now we need a name. Lyndon?"

The queen looked at him with a " What?" face. " Your kidding right? No way."

The king thought again. " Harleyan?"

The queen stared at him. " Is that even a name? No. That sounds stupid. " She paused gazing at her child. " Legolas..." She whispered.

" My little leaf..." Thranduil spoke. " I love it. Welcome to Middle earth, Legolas, son of Thranduil - King of Mirkwood."
