Fire With Fire - Chapter 19

ANAYA

Like every other hate story, ours too started with an incident. An incident I don't like to recall. I've buried it under my head and locked it in a box and threw away the key. But, like I said before, I need to get it over with. So, I dug deep into my head and took out the box. Unlocked it with a spare key and started to recall that horrible, horrible day.

***

'Hey', I waved to my friends as I ran over to them.

'Hi', Bryce and Avil waved back while Isla hugged me.

'What are we doing today?' I asked when Isla let go of me.

'You mean, who are we pranking today?' Avil corrected.

'You know me too well, don't you Av?' I smirked.

'That I do', Avil said.

'Okay lovebirds. If you guys can stop flirting, we can start planning the prank on our next victim. Poor him or her', Bryce said with fake sympathy laced in his voice.

'We weren't flirting', I shouted. 'Or at least, I wasn't. Can't say the same about Avil though.'

'Please Naya', Avil started, 'If anyone was flirting, it would be you.'

'Honey, I can't flirt with myself now, can I?' I asked. 'Plus, you know I don't flirt with any unattractive guys.'

'Excuse me', Avil said, in a disbelieving tone.

'You're excused', I smirked.

It was these small bickerings that I really enjoyed. It wasn't like I liked him or loved him. I just enjoyed bickering with Avil. Since he was so much like me, it felt like I was bickering with myself. In some fun, silly way.

'Ugh! Stop it Naya. Let's just go plan our next prank', Avil grumbled.

Bryce, Isla and I just laughed. 'Fine. Who's the poor victim?' I asked.

'A girl named Jiya who's going around school spreading rumors about Isla', Bryce said.

'What kind of rumors?' I growled.

'I can't tell you that. 'Cause if I do, you'll probably go kill her and it will land you in jail. So, I'm not taking the risk of telling you the reason. Sorry', Bryce said.

'Whatever', I said. 'Let's just go plan.'

A few hours later, we were ready to put our prank into action.

We were right in front of Jiya's house, ready to prank her when the sight we saw arose the feeling of betrayal in our eyes.

'How could he?' I whispered, tears stinging my eyes. 'How could he do that to me?'

'I'm sorry Ana', Isla said. 'I don't know why he would ever do that.'

'Looks like we found ourselves another victim', Bryce muttered.

'I thought he liked me. I thought we were doing fine', I said. 'I can't believe he, out of all the other people, would betray me like this I freaking trusted him.' I was this close to pulling all my hair out and bawling my eyes out, but I forced myself to be strong. I needed to be strong. I cannot show him he won. I simply just can't. 'I'm going over there. And on my call, you'll prank both of them.'

I walked towards Jiya's house before Bryce or Isla could protest about my decision. I rang the doorbell, once.. twice.. and the third time, Jiya herself opened the door.

I gave a sweet smile. 'Hi, I'm Anaya', I said, holding out my hand.

'I know who you are. I'm Jiya', Jiya said, shaking my hand.

'Oh, I know', I said. 'I also know that you're a freaking bitch.'

'Excuse me', Jiya put her hand on her hips.

'You're excused', I said. 'You're a freaking bitch, you know that. Want to know why? I'll tell you freaking why. First, you harass my best friend, Isla. Yeah, you remember her, don't you? Next, you cheating bitch cannot help yourself and have o go after my boyfriend, don't you? You're a freaking bitch.'

'I'm sorry, what now?' Jiya asked.

'You freaking know what I'm talking about. Don't act so innocent.' I barged into her house and into the living room where I saw my boyfriend checking something on his phone.

'How could you betray me like this?' I shouted. 'How could you Justin?'

As if just realising I was there, Justin, my so-called boyfriend turned around with wide eyes.

'Anaya, I can explain', Justin started.

'What will you explain?! Just that you were kissing Jiya. You are playing with my feelings? What the hell is wrong with you?' I shouted, tears stinging my eyes. 'You could've just broken up with me if you wanted to be with her you know. It would have hurt way more less than it hurts when you're betrayed by someone so close to you.'

'I'm sorr-' Justin started before I interrupted him once again.

'Don't you dare fucking apologise. It doesn't solve anything. Nothing', I said, refusing to let the tears fall.

'Anaya, please. Give me a chance to explain', Justin begged.

It felt like the world was against me. It felt like all those people I pranked got together and planned this against me. I felt my heart shatter into pieces. All this happened when I saw the one person I trusted more than my life, walk into the room with coffee in his hands.

'Justin, your girlfriend forgot to buy milk so, I hope you like black coffee.' He was looking at the coffee and so, he didn't realise I was just yet. And when he looked up, shock was evident on his face. He dropped both the mugs of coffee on the floor and whispered, 'Anaya.'

'You were the one person I trusted so much. But you betraying me like this! Never in my dreams would I have thought this would happen', I said. 'Never.'

'Anaya', Justin said. 'I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. But this was all a bet.'

'Toying with my heart was a fucking bet to you. Do you how I feel right now? Huh?' I asked - more like shouted. 'Who the hell did you bet with? Who gave you that task?'

Justin just looked at the person frozen in shock, and I got my answer. I fucking got my answer.

While we were too busy planning the pranks and me being too busy trying to get over the pain of betrayal, no one noticed Avil was missing. Absolutely no one. And now, here he was. Here he effing was.

'Avil', I whispered. 'You made that bet with him. How could you? You knew how much I liked him? You knew. I shared all my feelings with you. Every effing one of them. And you, you used them against me. I should've known. I should've known.' I felt like bawling now, but I couldn't give them the satisfaction. I simply couldn't. 'When did you make this bet?'

'A year ago', Justin answered.

'So, you toyed with my heart for over a year?!' I shouted. 'You should've broken up with me after a few months. You really should've. It would have saved me a lot of pain.'

'I'm sorry, Anaya. But it was for a year. I would've lost the bet.'

'Are you kidding me right now?!' I said. 'You thought it was better that I got hurt rather than you losing the bet. You're such an inconsiderate brat!'

'I'm really-' Justin said.

'Forget it. I don't want to hear how fucking sorry you are. I just don't. I'm telling you to get ready for hell', I told Justin and then turned towards Avil. 'Why did you do it?', I asked.

'I had a crush on you. I thought after the break up, I can comfort you and you will like me, or something along those lines', Avil said.

'There were better ways, Avil. You could have told me and I would've given you a chance. I can't believe that you thought hurting me would make you gain me in some twisted way', I said. 'You know what "Av", the saddest thing about betaryal is that it mostly never comes from enemies, it comes from your near and dear ones. I just hope you're ready for war.' I laughed bitterly.

'Naya-', Avil started before I interrupted, again.

'No. You don't get to call me that. From this moment on, all three of you-' I pointed to Jiya, Avil and Justin, '-are my enemies. I will get you back.'

'Anaya, please. I had nothing to do with this', Jiya said.

'You played a crucial role, darling. One, I'm sure you knew Justin and I were going out. The whole school knows it. Two, you hurt my best friend, and three, you fucking knew and didn't tell me. So, face the consequences with your sweet boyfriend and amazing friend', I said.

Jiya hung her head and that's when I knew I had nailed it. On the point.

'Now', I shouted, inwardly smirking, knowing what was goning to happen next.

Avil, Justin and Jiya looked confused till I bent down and eggs started hitting their faces, followed by tomatoes. 'This is just the beginning', I said and walked out.

You may be wondering how Bryce fits into all this?

He didn't know about the bet, but, he had to choose a side. Yes, he could've chose my side, but, Avil was his best friend no matter what. And this is what angered me. He chose Avil though he knew what he did. And thus, he became my enemy.

Jiya?

She left the city as she couldn't handle the pranks pulled on her. Wimp!

Well, now you know - the story of my past with Avil. And since you know now, it's going back to it's original place, that is, buried deep within my head in that box.
