Chapter 15: Embers of the Past
Huney uncovers ancient secrets about his true heritage and the origins of the Last Senniel.
The storm has passed, but the scars it left behind are fresh. Villagers work together to rebuild their homes, grateful for their lives but haunted by the memory of the battle. Meanwhile, Huney senses that the darkness hasn't retreated entirely—it has only shifted, waiting for the right moment to strike again.
One day, as Huney walks along the shore, he encounters Syla, the ancient member of the Elder Council. Her eyes, deep and knowing, look out over the sea, as if seeing beyond the horizon.
Syla: "You won the battle, but the war is far from over, child of flame."
Huney: (nodding) "I know. There's something more, isn't there? The Last Senniel... What is it, really?"
Syla: (sighs deeply) "It is not a mere force of darkness. It is ancient, as old as the gods themselves. It was born from the chaos that existed before the creation of the world, a remnant of the void that seeks to return everything to nothingness."
Huney: "Then why didn't Ignivor tell me? If it's this dangerous, shouldn't the gods have fought it themselves?"
Syla: "The gods... they are not as you imagine them. They are bound by laws older than they are. They cannot interfere directly in the mortal world, not without risking a collapse of the very balance they swore to protect. That is why they sent you."
Huney processes her words, feeling the weight of his role once again. He realizes that he is more than just a weapon of the gods—he is their link to the human world, their eyes and hands in a realm they cannot touch.
Huney: (frustrated) "So it's all on me, then? I'm supposed to stop an ancient force that even the gods fear?"
Syla: "You are not alone, Huney. You have the fire of the gods within you, yes. But you also have something more—something the Last Senniel does not understand."
Huney: "What's that?"
Syla: "The human heart. Love. Friendship. Hope. The Last Senniel knows only destruction and void, but you... you are both destruction and creation, fire and warmth. Remember that, and you may yet survive what is to come."
