a/n: I've always loved Sophie. I thought she was a badass witch. And shame she got killed so quickly. But she will live in fanfiction. Especially mine.

****

Sophie Devereaux loved her freedom above all. Being born as a witch was something she never really appreciated. It has not been an easy passage for her. She saw how the way the world of magic took its toll on all of her female side of the family. She swore to herself that it would not be the prime thing in her life, but, alas, she was born with the incredible gift of healing. So, her mother took the child with her to New York. She was an excellent student, but the world of magic was there following her, whether she wanted it or not and she agreed to pursue it when she turned sixteen. She studied medicine in daytime, and at nightime demonology and magical healing. A prophecy that was given to  her years ago, stated that the Expession witchcraft would come to rise again, uniting all the malevolent revenants with them. Resurrecting many demons. She couldn' believe when she saw her name in it and the role she will have.

Now, years after, she sat down in a cafe in Mystic Falls, and rang her sister in New Orleans.

As the woman picked up, she answered the message her sister had sent earlier.

"Yes, it's all true. This is the girl, the woman in the prophecy. You were right. You need to find that book somehow I did the binding spell.  I think he knows something too. I am going to stay here, for now. I was going to drive to NOLA to see  you-but, we really don't know if she is going to have any problems. So far, she  was fine. Sge is really nice - unlike the other! I will let you know how things go"
As she finished, she put the phone down.

She thought of Elijah and their first meeting in New York years back.

Flashback

"I am Elijah-you've probably heard of me!"

"Maybe"- the witch said- "you should have made yourself known the other night. You don't like voodoo shamans much!"

"A thank you would have been more appropriate- but I guess, it's not really in your nature to thank demons!"

"Right. Still, I was brought up to be polite. So, I will thank you for the assistance. Also for the one you extended to my sister. You are here to collect your debt?!"

"No. Not this time. I wanted to introduce myself. That is all for now. We will be in touch."

The Original  had left then, and she had not heard from him till I few days ago when he gave her a call to collect on the debt owed. When she had heard who was in need of her help, there was no hesitation or time to wait.

Her phone rang, and she was not surprised it was Elijah.

"Yes?"- the witch said answering the call.

"I took the liberty to book you a room. I think that you would decline staying at my family's mansion."

"Quite right!"- Sophie replied.

"It is only a few blocks away from the Gilbert's. I have a few errands to run, but I will call on you in the morning?!"

"See you then." - Sophie said and clicked the call off.

As she put the phone down, the directions of the Inn came through, and she made her way there.

In the Boarding House, the small dinner party turned out to be a friendly time-out.  Everyone forgot for a moment all the troubles and they were just a bunch of young people who enjoyed eachother's company, teasing one another. They even joked about the good and the bad side of vampirism.

"Sorry, Jer, if you feel excluded"- Elena said.

"Well, had a girlfriend who was one-now my sister is something of the kind-makes me a member too. I never thought I would be hanging around my sister's friends. You were all so full of yourselves -before!"

"We were fun"- Caroline protested.

Elena could see that Stefan was quiet, and hadn't been participating much in their conversation. She then thought that it was about time she and Caroline catch up, and that Jeremy probably wanted to see some of his friends.

Matt agreed to stay on in the Boarding House. So, the party broke up, and Elena promised her friend that she will call on him the next day.

In the cellar, Damon tried to block the whole party noise off. He purpously took some more vervained blood, hoping it would numb all his senses.

As the car drove off, Stefan went to the liquor cabinet and got three bottles of the finest Bourbon. He threw one to Matt saying-

"Now, we are going to party-come with me"

He headed for the cellar, and Matt followed him. They got to Damon's prison and opened it.

"Here"- Sefan gave his brother a bottle of Bourbon.

"What is this?"- Damon  looked at his brother a bit surprised.

"It's brother's time out"- Stefan said- "like you haven't overheard us earlier"

"Ah well-but, seriously, I wish you - love!? Stefan, are you out of your mind?! And you just handed her over to Elijah???!!!"

Damon couldn't move much, but his mouth could work overtime.

"She is not a puppet to be handed over!"- Stefan was not pleased that Damon talked about Elena that way.

Matt also had heard what was said in the Hallway.

"Welcome to the club of those who Elena Gilbert dropped like there's no tomorrow!"- Damon

raised his bottle up and took a good swag.

"You undaggered him, if I remember- now- see, what a bright idea- if he had stayed in that coffin"-  Stefan continued, but Damon interrupted him-

"She is a Petrova! What did you expect?! That oh,Stefan, I love Stefan it's always going to be Stefan-errr- NOT.!!! It's going to be Elijah!!!!"- Damon went into overdrive exclaiming the Original's name.

Matt enjoyed seeing the two brother drowning their sorrows in the whiskey, then contributed to the self-pity party- "I so wanted to kick your butt- "- he looked at Stefan- "maybe now I get to do it! And yours two -you came in walzing thinking that you can have it all"

"Yes- that's a good feisty new vamp!"- Damon said- "Cheers! When I get this vervain out of my bloodstream- you can take me on anytime."

"Me too."- Stefan said and it was clear that the Burbon was taking over.

Caroline couldn't wait to drop Jeremy off so she could shower Elena with various questions regarding what she had heard earlier. The first thing she wanted to know was whether she was with Elijah now.

"No."- Elena said- "I thought I was going to die, and I just couldn't continue with - lying to him and myself - everything about everything was going through my head- and I needed to tell him. It''s only fair"

"So, you had to tell him?! I don't get why- I mean-did you tell Elijah how you feel?"

"No" - Elena replied.

"Wait- everyone else knows that you've got the hots for him, but he doesn't know?"

"What do you want from me? I got out of a weird poison exorcism. I can't just go and tell him how I feel  about him just like that- it's Elijah?!"

"Exactly! But-  you kept all that about Elijah to yourself and let us think it is Damon. Then maybe it was Stefan again-  but then it is Elijah, actually??!!  I just don't get it! we killed his brother - and maybe we did not cuz we are all still here"

"We didn't kill him."- Elena corrected her. "Technically it was Alaric - but what really worries me is that no one can find Bonnie."

"Yeah - I looked everywhere - you think that Elijah is really going to find her?"

"I hope so."- Elena said- "we should also see what had happened. I think that the witch could help us. Elijah sent me a message that she will stay at  The Mystic Inn if I needed her."

"What are you waiting for-let's go!"- Caroline urged her to go and see the witch.

And so they came knocking at Sophie's door. The witch wasn't a bit surprised seeing them.

"Please,come in"- Sophie said.

"This is Caroline"- Elena introduced her vampire friend. The blonde couldn't help but look at Sophie as if she was a creature from another planet.

"We can talk fashion - or we can talk witch business. But, first, how are you feeling, Elena?"

"Fine. I feel vampy -sort of- I get these flushes though, but it's not like I'm going to burn." - Elena replied.

"That's the blood reacting to the Original blood. You are quite accepting of your condition?!" - the witch explained.

"I was about to die, when you came. I had both of their blood in me and I was not getting better." - Elena said.

"That is true. I cannot imagine what you went through"- Sophie  said as they sat down- "but - ok -you're here about something else?!"

"Can you read minds? Elena said you are a kind of very unusual witch "- Caroline said cocking her eyebrow at Sophie.

Sophie smiled- "It just - I could tell by your faces that this was about lot more than- also, why would you be looking up for me. Elena didn't look sickly."

"It's about Bonnie"- Elena said seriously- "I don't how much Elijah had told you  about what had happened here  in the last few days."

Sophie thought for a split second what to do, but then she decided to help. However, she wasn't ready to tell them all as she still didn't know how much Elijah and Elena shared.

"He told me something. But the witch world talks. Ever since the hybrid curse was lifted, everyone  feared the hybrids would start breeding like wildfire. It wasn't my business."- Sophie explained a little.

"You know so much more now, right?"- Caroline looked at her with her eyes glittering.

"Elijah had leverage on you?!"- Elena suspected.

"He did. He had helped my sister. So I repayed my debt."

"You don't like vampires."- Caroline stated.

"I have to say that you are the first who is still more a girl, than a beast."

Caroline's blood boiled as she sid that, but she kept cool, not knowing what Sophie could do to her.

Elena looked at her friend, her eyes now beaming a red stream. Caroline couldn't believe it, but she instinctively moved a step back.

"What just happened?"- Elena said realizing that something was odd.

"Your eyes- kind of vamped"- Caroline explained- "I've only seen this in Klaus."

Elena felt ashamed for a moment. The changes seem to come out when she least expected it.

"If you have an unusual reaction, I meant to give this herbal mixture tomorrow"- Sophie produced a small  bag of selected herbs to be drunk as tea.

"This should calm some of the flushes- and whatever unusual things you may get."

"Thank you."- Elena took the bag.

"Bonnie, why did she disappear- has it got to do with whoever poisoned me?"

"This poison, as I said is used by shamans. They certainly don't want any hybrids being sired."

"So, a shaman could have taken Bonnie and Klaus?!"- Elena concluded.

"They have powers to possess witches- but in this case, they would have destroyed both Bonnie and Klaus. He is not dead, which is obvious, as the line that came from him would not continue."

"What then?"- Caroline said- " where are they?"

"She could have transfered him to the spirit world."- Sophie said- "as long as the spirit is alive- the supernatural being is very much alive."

"Esther!"- Elena slipped out.

"Yes. This still could be her doing?" - Caroline added.

"And Alaric?" - Elena asked further.

"He is dead, I am afraid."- Sophie replied.

Both Caroline and Elena looked at her astound.

"How do you know this? He was linked to me and I didn't die. I don't understand"- Elena's eyes watered.

"That I don't know. But I received a message, that the Hunter is dead." - Sophie said.

"Message from whom?"- Caroline wouldn't let  go.

Elena's pleading eyes made Sophie crumble.

"Esther's sister!"- Sophie then uttered.

*******

Elijah returned to Mystic Falls with the same information. There was no site of Klaus and Bonnie, though. Also,  Tyler was missing too. The revelation that his mother had a sister was a first for him as well. He poured a glass of blood for himself. He looked around the huge room and thought of his family, trying to remember if Esther had ever mentioned anything about a sister. She was ademand that she was the only child her parents had. He took a sip. Esther was a woman who was very deceptive. He knew that. Now, he thought, he should concentrate how to get in touch with his aunt. Could she have poisoned Elena?

More questions arised, but he had no answers. At least not just yet. His thoughts now swayed to a more pleasant corner. He took out of his pocke a silver locket with a beautiful engraving with the claddagh motif on it.

"Elena!"- he uttered rubbing the engraving dearly with his thumb.
