10. The Sacrifice

Lily, who was fast asleep in her bed, suddenly woke up when she heard something fall in the living room, being a lighter sleeper, the noise immediately woke her up.

A confused Lily slowly got out of bed, opening her bedroom door she took small and steady towards the living room, not wanting to alert the intruder, entering the room she saw a vase on the floor but looking around she found no one in the room.

Unknown to her, while she was checking the living room, Jonas Martin, a warlock working with Elijah, had sneaked into her room and was currently grabbing some of her jewelry and her hair from her hairbrush.

Lily, who was still in the living room, suddenly heard a noise coming from her bedroom.

"Am I going crazy?" Lily wondered, going back into her room.

Entering her room, she once again started looking around but found no one,

Lily shook her head, "Definitely going crazy" she whispered, getting back into bed, unaware that the intruder had cloaked himself behind her door and once Lily had gone to bed, he successfully sneaked out.

At school, Lily walked over to Tyler who was busy playing basketball.

"So, it's your first moon soon, how you celebrating it" Lily teased, placing her bag on the floor.

"Not funny" Tyler said, throwing Lily the basketball.

"I know it's not funny, that's just how I deal with awkward situations" Lily said, bouncing the ball up and down, "But just tell me something, have you thought about what you're going to do?".

"I have a plan" Tyler informed.

"Spill" Lily demanded, throwing the basketball into the hoop.

"Kind of private" Tyler said.

"Since when do we keep secrets?" Lily asked, "Look Tyler, you need to know you're not alone in this, I'm going to turn as well, and trust me when I say this, you're going to need someone by your side during this".

Tyler looked at Lily for a moment, then nodded his head, accepting Lily's support.

After school, Lily and Tyler met up with Caroline, who insisted she was also going to help and the three friends then proceeded to go check out the old Lockwood cellar where Lily was supposed to transform but couldn't.

"Matt's bumming pretty hard" Tyler told Caroline.

"I know" Caroline said, "It's better this way".

"I get" Tyler assured.

"You do?" Caroline asked, not expecting Tyler to understand her.

"Yeah, you can't be honest with him, and it's not really fair to be with someone, and not really let them know who you are" Tyler said, "I get it".

Lily, who was walking infront of Caroline and Tyler, shook her head at Tyler's words, the tone in his voice was a tone Lily had heard many times, once upon a time that tone was even directed towards her, but that was when they were in preschool, it was the tone that showed Tyler was catching feelings.

"Alright, we're here" Lily announced, "The Lockwood cellar that goes through the ancient Lockwood's property".

Tyler, Caroline and Lily proceeded to walk downstairs into the cellar where both Tyler and Lily will be transforming in.

"I'm guessing this is where you and Mason were headed that night" Tyler told Lily.

Lily nodded, "Yeap, and because of your stupid party I had to transform in the middle of the woods".

"Did Mason tell you about this place?" Caroline asked her sister.

"Yeah, I was panicking, not knowing where to turn, that is when Mason told me that I could come here" Lily informed, she then looked towards Tyler, "Are you sure you want to be tied up? I mean, even I don't tie myself up".

Tyler nodded, "I'm not risking hurting someone".

Lily sighed, "Fine, but you will be missing out on the full werewolf experience" she stated, Lily then shined her torch towards some old bolts and chains, "We're going to need new chains, but these bolts should do the job".

"This place was for people like us?" Tyler asked.

"Clearly" Lily said, tugging on the bolt to make sure it didn't come out and luckily it didn't.

A curious Caroline started looking around, "What's this?" she asked, her eyes landing on something, walking towards it, she realised someone's diary was shoved into a hole in the wall.

"Your guess is as good as mine" Lily said, equally as confused as Caroline and Tyler.

Caroline removed the cover and handed it to Tyler, "Was it Mason's?" she asked.

Tyler started going through the diary, "August 31st" he read, "My body is changing, I'm edgy, angry, impatient, I get so mad, I black out and forget what I say or do".

"Good old werewolf curse" Lily said, remembering experiencing the same thing when she first triggered her curse.

"I'm not myself, not since Jimmy's death" Tyler continued reading, "What's happening to me?", Tyler flickered through the diary, "He chronicled everything" he informed, "The full moon is tonight".

"Well, does he say what happened?" Caroline curiously.

"My guess, he turned into a werewolf" Lily said, as Tyler flipped through the last page where he came across a SD card, Lily sighed seeing the SD card, she realised that Mason had recorded his transformation, she knew as soon as Tyler watched what was in this, it wasn't going to help his fear, it would just increase it by million.

Lily stood in the Forbes living room door way, watching as Tyler put the SD card into this laptop.

"Ty, I'm saying this again, watching these videos, it's not going to help you, it's going to make things worse" Lily said.

Tyler sighed, "I have to know what he went through, I have to know what you go through, what I'm gonna have to go through".

Lily shook her head, "Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you" she said, sitting on one side of Tyler while Caroline sat on the other, Mason's diary in her hand.

"It's September 15th" Mason said, as Tyler pressed play, "Two hours from the first full moon since I triggered the curse".

"He taped his first transformation" Tyler realised.

"Yeap" Lily said.

"Um", Caroline flicked through Mason's diary, "There's nothing but--September 16th, he--he wrote about everything the next day", Tyler fast forwarded the video as Caroline started reading what Mason wrote, "I chose the garage, I could deadbolt the door, it was far from the street, so no one could hear, I bolted hooks to the floor for the carabiners, what, like for mountain climbing?".

"Retractable cables" Lily informed.

"What's he doing?" a confused Tyler asked, seeing Mason mix something in water and drink it, he then violently started coughing.

"Drinking wolfsbane" Lily said, hating seeing Mason like this, "It's an herb that weaken us".

"I diluted wolfsbane with water to weaken myself but I could barely get it down without puking, it felt like I was drinking battery acid" Caroline read, she looked towards Lily, "Please tell me you didn't do this".

"I did" Lily informed.

"Lily" a concerned Caroline whispered.

"It was only on my first full moon" Lily assured, "After that I made sure me and wolfsbane never came in touch again".

"It's that bad?" Tyler asked.

"It's basically poison for us" Lily replied.

Caroline sighed, she then went back to read, "Over an hour passed, nothing happened, it got so quiet, I could hear my own blood pumping, and that's when", the trio watched as Mason started yelling in pain, all three of them feeling various emotions, Caroline finally realising what her sister goes through every month, Tyler realising this was going to happen to him, and Lily reliving her first transformation, the most painful one in her opinion, "I kept thinking I'd black out and not feel it, but I did, I--".

"Felt every moment of it" Lily finished, making both Caroline and Tyler look at her only to see at her blankly looking at Mason's video.

"Help!" Mason yelled, "Somebody! Help!".

"How long is it?" Caroline asked, hating hearing Mason's screams.

"This is just the beginning Care" Lily whispered.

"We're three hours in" Tyler added, "Four hours, five hours", Tyler looked at Lily, "How long does this last?".

"A long time" Lily informed.

Tyler looked at Mason and hearing his painful screams, caused tears to well in his eyes, he stood up and walked away from the laptop, "I c--I can't do that, Lily, Caroline, whatever that was, I can't go through that".

Lily sighed, "You don't really have a choice Ty" she whispered, feeling very emotional, she never wanted her best friend to trigger his curse but now that he has, she was going to make sure he survives his first transformation.

"You know what?" Caroline said, shutting Mason's diary and placing it on the table, "I don't think we should read this anymore".

"Why?" Tyler asked, grabbing the diary, "What did you read?".

Caroline sighed, "There's a reason it's called a curse, Tyler".

"Unimaginable pain, I thought it would never end" Tyler read, "It was the worst night of my life", not wanting to read anymore, Tyler shut the book, he then sat on the couch, feeling extremely overwhelmed.

"Look Ty, the first transformation is the worse but after that it speeds up a little bit everytime" Lily said, trying to make Tyler feel a bit better, "You just need to get through this first time".

"Why are you so hell bent on helping me, Lily?" a confused Tyler asked.

"The fact that you have to ask me this question is insulting" Lily said, "Ty, you are my best friend, I would never want you to go through this alone, I was alone when I triggered my curse, I didn't know what was happening to me, I was lonely Ty, I had no one who could help, tell me what to do, how to get through this, I'm here because I don't want you to feel the same way I did, I don't want you to ever feel as lonely as I did".

Tyler stared at Lily for a moment, he then pulled her into a tight hug and Lily gladly hugged him back, while Caroline stood to the side, admiring the two best friends with tears in her eyes, she was just realising everything Lily had gone through, while her mom and her had each other, Lily had no one to fall back to, she was all alone, figuring this world out on her own.
