17. Because The Night

"That is disgusting" Lily commented, entering the very messy Salvatore Boarding house and seeing her sister drink alcohol out of a cup laying on the table.

Caroline turned and immediately let out an annoyed groan seeing her sister standing there with Klaus, "What are you two doing here?".

"Not judging you, for starters" Klaus said.

"Talk for yourself, I am totally judging her" Lily stated, she looked at Caroline, "Surely you have it in you to get drunk in a bit more sanitary way, no?".

Caroline glared at her sister and without breaking contact with her downed another drink, "Well then, you showed us" Klaus teased.

"Shouldn't you be out chasing Tyler to the ends of the earth?" an annoyed Caroline asked, "Or were there still some hopes and dreams you want to crush around here?".

"Depends, do you happen to know where the young Brutus is?" Klaus asked.

"I know where he's not, with me" Caroline replied, throwing more cups into the bin in her hand, "He gave Matt the deed to the house, so he's gone for good".

"I don't get why you're so mad" Lily said, "If anything this is tit for tat".

"How the hell is this tit for tat, Lily?" an angry Caroline asked.

"You and your little band of loser friends made it their life mission to separate me from the man I love, so from where I'm standing, us driving Tyler away from you, is the consequences of your own actions, don't blame us for it" Lily said.

"Lily" Stefan warned, entering the living room and seeing the two sisters glaring at each other, "Calm down".

Lily took a deep breath before turning to her best friend, "Hey Stefan, like I promised, I brought Klaus, what is it that you want from him?".

"We need his help, I think Silas is in Mystic Falls" Stefan informed.

"So some blood went missing from a few hospitals" Klaus said, pouring himself a glass of bourbon after Stefan finished explaining everything he discovered to both Klaus and Lily, "What about Elena? Don't vampires with their humanity off tend to overindulge on human blood?", Klaus turned to face Stefan, "Or were you the exception?".

"It's not Elena" Stefan stated.

"Well, let's say for a moment that it was Silas" Klaus said, "I'm struggling to see how this affects me".

"Look Silas wants to die and be reunited with his one true love" Stefan informed, "But he's supernatural, so if he takes the cure and dies he's stuck on the other side".

"Kind of romantic" Lily commented, "In a very morbid kind of way".

"But if he destroys the other side altogether, he can take the cure, die and pass on" Stefan continued, "But in destroying it every dead supernatural being will return to our side".

"Every?" a slightly shocked Lily asked, her mind briefly going to her biological parents.

"Yes Lily, every werewolf, every witch, every vampire" Caroline said, she looked at Klaus, "I wonder how many of those you've personally killed, care yet?".

"My interest is piqued" Klaus simply said, "How do we stop him?".

"Bonnie said Silas needs to complete three massacres to do the spell" Stefan replied, "Before Professor Shane died, he convinced the pastor to blow up the council, next, he had you kill your hybrids, and now, he only needs one more massacre, so if he's here, that's what he's doing, we need to find him".

"What are we even looking for?" a curious Caroline asked, as her, Lily, Klaus and Stefan entered Professor Shane's office.

"Well, if Shane really was working with Silas chances are he was helping him plan his next move" Stefan said, as the group of four started searching Shane's office for any clue regarding Silas and his plans.

"Where?" Caroline asked, "On his evil villain to do list? Steal blood, preform three massacres, pick up dry cleaning?".

"Actually, not to nit pick but we evil villains usually use minions to pick up our dry cleaning" Klaus said, "That sort of thing".

"Why is he necessary, again?" an annoyed Caroline asked Stefan.

"Because miss genius, you have no idea about Silas's power, if you were to go head to head with him, I'd say the original hybrid who can't die might have more of an advantage then a baby vampire like you" Lily taunted.

"Besides, Stefan and I work well together" Klaus added, "Or at least we did in the 20s".

"Well, granted my emotions were off" Stefan retorted.

"And that's why you were more fun" Klaus teased, taking a seat on Shane's desk while Lily started looking at the books on the bookshelf, "Just as Damon is probably relishing in Elena's emotionless company in New York".

"My brother knows what he's doing" Stefan said, refusing to believe Damon would take advantage of Elena's emotionless situation.

"Does he?" Klaus asked, "Don't underestimate the allure of darkness Stefan", Klaus glanced at Lily, "Even the purest hearts are drawn to it".

"Agreed" Lily said, as an annoyed Caroline glanced between a smiling Lily and Klaus.

"Still, I'm sure it'll all be fine" Klaus told Stefan.

"Hey guys, I think I found someone" Lily announced, taking the book she was reading over to Shane's desk, "This book is called symbolic figures in the dark arts", Lily placed the book in the middle of the table and Stefan and Caroline came and stood on either side of her while Klaus sat infront of her, "Didn't you say Bonnie told you something about expression triangles?" Lily asked Stefan, before pointing to a page on the book, "Look".

"In some schools of magic, such as expression human sacrifice can be used as a focus for power" Stefan read out, "It's rumored that the addition of two supernatural sacrifices compounds the mystical energy creating an expression triangle".

"Humans" Caroline pointed to the expression triangle on the page, "That's the council fire, demons, Klaus's hybrid failure".

"Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a failure, what's the third?" Klaus asked.

"Oh no" a shocked Caroline whispered, once she read what the third sacrifice is supposed to be.

"It's witches" an equally shocked Lily revealed.

Lily stood infront of Klaus, a map placed in between them on the table, "So, there's been two massacres" she reminded, "One happened at Pastor Young's farm, which was here", Lily used a marker to mark Pastor Young's farm, "And the old Lockwood cellar where we killed your hybrids is here", Lily drew a line that connected the two places, "According to that book, the expression triangle is equilateral, so that means that next massacre should be here", Lily pointed to the middle point in the map that created a triangle.

"Somebody's been skipping their geometry classes" Klaus teased, making Lily look at him in confusion, "There are actually two places where the third massacre could be", Klaus marked another middle point on the map that could possibly be the location of the third massacre.

"I would have eventually figured that out" Lily defended, making Klaus give her an amused look, however before he could say anything, Shane's office door opened and Stefan and Caroline walked in, "Did you guys find Bonnie?".

"No, but we talked to her dad" Stefan informed, "I think we found Silas".

"I just wanna see where we are" Caroline complained, as she followed Klaus and Lily into the dark woods.

"You know when we split up, you did have the option of going with Stefan" Klaus reminded.

"Yeah and leave Bonnie's life in both your hands?" Caroline asked, "Fat chance, do either of you even know how to read a map?".

"Yes, and you know who taught me? My friend Magellan" Klaus informed.

"Wow, you had a friend" Caroline taunted, "Was he drawn to your darkness too?".

Lily gave her sister a confused look, "Klaus was talking about me and him and Damon and Elena when he said that, why are you getting so triggered by it?".

"I'm not getting triggered by it" Caroline defended, "All I'm saying is that it's not true, there is no allure to darkness".

Lily stopped walking and faced her sister, "Are you really that stupid or do you just ignore what's right infront of you just because you don't like it?".

Klaus stood next to Lily and looked at Caroline, "You've never felt the attraction that comes when someone who's capable of doing terrible things for some reason, cares only about you?".

Lily laced her fingers with Klaus, "I've felt that attraction Caroline, you might hate it, but the truth is, sometimes you just can't help yourself, no matter how much you try to deny it, you can't, some people are worth fighting the whole world for, everyone does terrible things in their life, no one is a saint, not even you".

Klaus looked at Lily, a small smile forming on his face before he turned back to Caroline, "We're here" he announced, breaking the tense atmosphere between the two sisters, "Although, judging by the lack of witches, here is not the correct location".

"They're linked, Bonnie's gonna kill them" Stefan informed the trio the moment they arrived at the location the twelve witches were trying to cleanse Bonnie from the influence of expression and Silas.

"Not if the witches kill her first" Klaus said, slamming Stefan to the tree.

"Klaus, we can't just let her die!" Lily said, "We have to save her".

"How?" Klaus asked, "The only way to stop the witches is to kill them, and then Silas gets what he wants".

Lily and Caroline looked at the witches, "Spirits take her soul, free her from darkness" the leader of the witches said, holding a knife above Bonnie's chest, ready to stab her.

Lily and Caroline watched as Bonnie's eyes turned pure white and she started screaming in pain, not being able to see this, Lily quickly jumped over the fire and ran over to the leader, she grabbed her hands and made her stab herself in her chest, the leader of the coven of witches yelled out in pain and dropped to the ground.

"No!" Klaus yelled.

Lily looked around and saw one by one the twelve witches surrounding her, fall to the ground, all dead.

"Bonnie!" Caroline yelled, running over to her unconscious friend, while Stefan ran over to a shocked Lily.

"Lily" Stefan called.

A teary eyed Lily looked at Stefan, "I didn't know how else to save Bonnie".

"I know" Stefan assured, pulling Lily into a hug, "You had no other choice".

Lily hugged Stefan back, over his shoulder, she looked at Klaus, "I had no other choice" she whispered.

Klaus looked at Lily, then with a shake of his head, walked away.

Suddenly Bonnie opened her eyes, that were still white, "The triangle is complete".

"There" Klaus said, after finishing digging in the woods, "Twelve graves for twelve witches, like it never happened, only it did happen and now Silas has everything he needs to open the gates to hell on earth".

Lily glared at Klaus, "I'm not like you Klaus, I can't just watch and let people that I've know my entire life, die!".

"I know arithmetic isn't your strong point but one is still less than twelve" Klaus stated.

"Maybe, but that one is someone who I grew up with, someone I've know my entire life, someone who is my sister's best friend" Lily snapped.

Klaus walked over to Lily, "You tell yourself whatever you need to so you can sleep at night".

An emotional Lily ran her hand through her hair, "When Faith died, I managed to convince myself that her death wasn't on me, but how am I meant to live with this? I killed twelve people", Klaus looked at Lily in sympathy, he took a step forward to comfort her, but Lily stepped back and held her hand out, "Don't, please don't say anything, I don't want to hear it, I need to be alone right now".

Before Klaus could say anything, a teary eyed Lily walked away from him, Klaus let out a sigh before turning back to the twelve graves when suddenly he felt a presence behind him, turning around, he was met with Professor Shane but Klaus knew better, he knew the person infront him wasn't Shane.

"Thank you, of the three massacres, this is the one I was dreading".

"Silas, I presume" Klaus said, glaring at the two thousand year old immortal infront of him.

"I'm sorry, mate" Klaus told Silas, while pretending to check his pockets, "Don't have it".

"But you know who does" Silas reminded, "And the last thing that you want is for that cure to be used on you, so you bring it to me, and it won't be, you get to live, forever, with that werewolf of yours".

Klaus let out an amused chuckle, "Yeah, with all of my dead supernatural enemies from the other side, you know, you don't scare me Silas, or Shane, or whoever you are".

"But I think I know what does" Silas said, pulling out the indestructible white oak stake from his back pocket.

"Now where did you get that?" a shocked Klaus asked.

"Well, let's just say your sister's mind is a little easier to read than yours" Silas replied, "So, care to reconsider my offer?".

Klaus glared at Silas before he speeded over to where he was standing, but to his shock, the moment he reached where Silas was supposed to, he wasn't there, before Klaus could get a moment to react, Silas suddenly appeared behind Klaus and stabbed him in the back with the white oak stake, causing Klaus to let out a scream of pain and fall to the ground on his knees while groaning in pain.

"I missed by an inch, but don't worry" Silas said, "I'm not trying to kill you, not just yet", Klaus screamed in pain when Silas snapped the white oak in stake, leaving half of it in his back where he couldn't reach it, "Just a little something to remember me by", Silas patted Klaus shoulder before walking away from him, "I'll be in touch!".
