Can't Hide Forever
Grillby was making breakfast burritos when you came in yawning. The boys would likely be asleep for a bit longer. So you took the picture for Grillby to see. "Grillby." You hugged him from behind, lifting the drawing for him to see. "Where can I hang this adorableness?" He took the picture, shocked. "Papyrus drew this?"
"Last night. After you left. He even called you daddy. It was so cute coming from him.." Grillby hugged the picture. "Stars.. daddy? Does he- do they-?"
"Well Papyrus could only know the word from Sans, so yes, I'd assume so." You released Grillby, who put it on the fridge via magnet. "I will cherish this.." Stars Grillby was such a softy and you loved it. You sniffed. "Smells good, Grillby. What is it?"
"Breakfast burritos. I assume you haven't had them before?" He asked. You glanced away. "Well.. I don't know. I don't remember all that much of my life before the lab. I know I had parents. A name. Maybe friends? I remember some places, like the Dump and I recalled this place fairly easy.." Grillby turned to you. "So you had a life outside the lab? I though maybe you were created." You gestured towards the boys. "They were. I was.. 'donated' after my parents died."
🔥🔥🔥
Grillby wisely dropped the subject for the time being and now everyone was enjoying breakfast boritos. Actually, Sans was enjoying the ketchup more, but eh. "AH! SANS, SANS! MAMA!" Papyrus pointed at the picture on the fridge. "woah, bud. that's neat." Sans glanced between yourself and Grillby. "He hung it up there just this morning to display your craftsmanship." You smiled, rubbing the smaller's skull. A knock sounded from the front and your ears flicked up. "hear something?"
"MAMA?" You listened for it again. You were rewarded, making anxiety crawl on your back. "Expecting vistors?" Grillby shook his head. "Go ahead and hide. I'll see who it is." You nodded and Sans grabbed Papyrus' hand. You helped hide away the plates while another knock sounded. You took some toys for Papyrus this time and hid in the bathroom once more. "Play quietly, ok kiddo?" You asked. He nodded. Thank the stars for his obedience, if he threw a fit like he had for a bath.. You sighed and pricked your ears to listen.
🔥🔥🔥
"There are no fugitives in my bar, doctor. You're welcome to look around and see for yourself." Grillby stated as he opened the door to the back. Quiet footsteps came in.. it was not him. Was likely one of his team though. They were looking for you and the boys. You listen to them walk around. "Toys?" They asked. Sans perked. You were to focused on the door to notice though. "They are my nieces. I had them out because she visited yesterday. Haven't had the chance to put them away quite yet." You'd heard of his niece, Fuku. A young green fire elemental. The monster hummed. "Nice coat."
"It's a duster, actually. I just got it not to long ago for giftmas." Grillby replied. "And the hat?" Grillby nodded. "Quite humorous if you ask me." More footsteps. "This picture.." Stars! The picture! "dr. jack!"
"SANS!" He was gone before you could catch him, with Papyrus trying to follow behind. "Oh no you don't!" You grabbed him. "Stay." You rushed after Sans. "Sans!" He was hugging a cat monster. "[Y/N]! he's was the good one! the one i told you about, remember? he'd heal me and care for pap, and sneak us real food!" You and Grillby shared a look.
🔥🔥🔥
"Don't worry, I won't rat on you or turn you in to Dr. Gaster." You visibly tensed. "I wanted to make sure S and P- er sorry- Sans and Papyrus were ok. I'm really glad you took them with you, Ms. [Y/N]." Dr. Jack said as the boys played with their toys. "How do I know I can trust you?" You asked uncertainly. "I trust Sans, but you.. how can I take you're word." He laughed nervously. "You.. really don't like me. That's ok, I get it. But if you don't let me go, this place will be targeted." He had a good point. Stupid scientists. "MAMA." Your glare switched to a soft gaze as Pap caught your attention. "A drawing of Sans, huh? Keep this up and we'll have ourselves a little artist."
"NU-UH!" You tilted your head. "No? Then what do you want to be?" Grillby asked. "GARD!"
"he's been watching the canine guard. says he wants to learn from the best." Sans replied, coloring something in. "I see. Someday, pap.. someday.." You glowered at the scientist before you. "He called you mama.. wow." Your jowls twitched.
🔥🔥🔥
"What about you, Sans?" Grillby broke the tension a bit. "What do you want to be?" Sans stopped coloring. "... it's stupid." He replied, evading the question. "Oh, it can't be all bad Sans. What is it?" You asked. You wanted him to be comfortable with telling these things. "you'd never approve, mom.." He started coloring again. Papyrus yelled, smacked Sans in the shoulder, and snatched the paper from the startled older brother. "Papyrus, that wasn't nice!" You chided. He ignored you, instead handing you the paper. "Apologize, Papyrus." He squeaked and apologized immediately. Sans didn't seem to care. He was staring desperately at the paper. You looked at it. It was Sans, in a lab coat, with monsters smiling in the background. "A scientist, hm? What makes you think I wouldn't approve?"
"you don't like.. scientists.." You put a paw on his skull. "But I love you. You're not like.. him." Sans smile lifted a little. "so you'd be ok with.." You nodded. "If it's your dream, I fully support it." Eventually the scientist, Dr. Jack, left promising not to expose us. Still, you were uneasy. "Can we stay at your place?" Grillby nodded. "I was hoping you'd ask."
