Cat

Sometime after the Endgame. Lucina

I wonder why Mother summoned me? I hope it's not anything dire. But then again, what danger could we possibly face in this time of peace?

I pondered these questions on my way to Mother's study. The only information I was given from the servant was that Mother was worried about something and specifically needed me. I began to think about any possible troubles she could have.

I know Father is out training some new recruits, is it something regarding him? Or maybe it has something to do with the baby! Is she going into labor?! Wait, no. That's impossible. She's only five months pregnant. Does she have questions about the future? Gods, there are so many ways this can go!

I finally reached her study. Ok, Lucina. You can do this. Drawing in a deep breath, I knocked on the door. "Mother? You wanted to see me?" I spoke.

"Come in, Lucina," she replied.

I entered the room, closing the door behind me. Her study was its usual state of disarray. Papers were strewn everywhere, books were stacked on end tables with bookmarks placed towards the beginning or middle - most likely because she forgot that she was reading it or was uninterested, and on her desk were plates of discarded snacks.

She looked up from her report, smiling at me. "Hello, dear. Have a seat." She gestured to one of the chairs in front of her desk.

I sat down, instinctively sitting straight. "Is something wrong? The messenger told me you were worried about something."

She sighed and leaned back in her chair, resting her hands on her swollen stomach. "It's nothing too urgent, but it has been bugging me for a while," she said. "Since your father's out and I had work to catch up on, I needed someone to watch Luci. Morgan said he would take care of her and that's all fine and dandy, but I can't help but feel there's something wrong."

My head tilted slightly. "How so? I'm sure they're fine." Although, Morgan does seem to turn little me into quite the troublemaker whenever they're together... I guess I can see where Mother's coming from.

"I haven't heard from them all day. In fact, I haven't even heard them in the castle at all."

"Isn't that a good thing?"

"No. Silence is always suspicious." Her tone was matter of fact and serious.

I chewed on my bottom lip. "Do you want me to check up on them?"

"Yes, please," she nodded. "I would do it myself, but mobility isn't exactly my strongest power right now. If I had to chase around a toddler and a teenager, it wouldn't end well."

I smiled. "Don't worry about it, Mother. I'll take care of it."

She sighed in relief. "Thank you, Lucina. You're a life saver."

"It's no problem, Mother! I'm happy to help!"

She giggled in response. "Of course, you are, dear." She picked her report back up. "Now, I suggest you start looking in Luci's bedroom. That's where I last saw them."

"All right, I'll do that."

...

I traversed to the where the royal bedrooms were, listening for the voiced of my siblings. Once I reached Luci's room, I knocked on the door. "Morgan? Luci? Are you in here?" No response.

I groaned internally. Either they're being quiet or I'll have to keep searching. I opened the door and peeked inside. The bed was made and her toys were all put away. A toddler has not been in here for hours.

"Maybe they're in Morgan's room. If not, then-"

"Be careful! You're gonna hurt her!"

"I'm trying, Luci! She keeps moving around!"

I heard the voices of my siblings coming down the hall. I quickly hid behind Luci's door and waited for them. What do they have?

As soon as they were in eyesight, I leaped out. "Where have you two been?"

Luci shrieked and hid behind Morgan. "B-big Sis!"

Morgan hastily closed his coat, keeping his arms folded. "L-Lucina! What a pleasant surprise! Wh-what brings you here?"

I eyed him warily. "What are you two hiding."

"N-nothing! Absolutely nothing!" Morgan coughed. As he said that, something inside of his coat moved.

I crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow. "You can't hide anything from me. Fess up."

Luci looked like she was about to cry. "St-stop it! You're being a big meanie! I'm telling Mom!" she threatened.

I was trying so hard to not laugh. "Oh yeah? Well, Mom sent me to find you two. If you told on me, then you would have to tell her what you did."

All of a sudden, Morgan's chest meowed. He tried coughing to cover it up. "GEE,  MY ALLERGIES REALLY ARE GETTING TO ME!"

"Morgan, it's the middle of January. And your allergies make you sneeze, not cough."

Whatever he was hiding moved again. "Uh, I have new allergies!"

I face-palmed. "Let whatever it is you're hiding out so it can breathe," I sighed.

Luci tugged on Morgan's coat. "Don't do it! She'll tell Mom and she'll get angry!"

Morgan looked defeated. "I-I don't know, Luci... This thing does need fresh air. And I don't think Mom will be too mad."

The little princess was about to cry. "B-but..."

Morgan opened his coat and held a small tabby kitten. He handed it down to Luci. "Here's our 'big secret'," he said.

Luci hugged the kitten tight. "We found her on the streets and I wanted to give her a new home! I really want to keep her! I already named her and everything!"

I stared at my younger siblings and the cat. This wasn't what I was expecting... Was I really this way as a kid?

Morgan kicked his feet sheepishly. "So...what do you think...?"

I ran a hand through my hair. "Well, I think that we do need to tell Mom and Dad about this," I said.

Luci held the kitten tighter. "Noooo! They won't let me keep her!"

I giggled, kneeling down to her level. "Having a pet is a very big responsibility, Luci. But I don't think Mother and Father will reject your wishes to keep her. If anything, being honest will tell them that you are responsible and ready for a pet."

Her eyes lit up. "Really?"

"Really." I scratched the kitten's head. "What did you name her?"

"Snowy!"

I had to resist laughing. "Really? You named an orange cat Snowy?"

"We found her in the snow!" Morgan exclaimed.

"Well, that's one explanation." I ruffled Luci's hair. "C'mon, let's go tell Mother about Snowy. And don't hug her so tightly. She needs to breathe."

Luci nodded. "Ok, Sis!"

I chuckled to myself. Oh my. This was certainly a turn of events. Am I even a cat person? I guess I am. Well, I'm glad she's happy. If the only chaos we ever have to deal with from now on is rambunctious children, I'm totally fine with that. It is what we fought for, after all.

*****

This was super fun to write holy gods. Here's blueberry family fluff with Morgan who doesn't know how to adult, Luci who never does anything wrong ever, and Lucina who is 110% done with your BS. I still gotta order my Halloween costume XD. Thank you so much for reading and look forward to reading more!
