Books (Chrobin Week)
Sometime before Chapter 6. Anna (Pre-relationship)
"Anna, you in here?" Chrom asked as he entered my tent.
I released a hearty breath, not looking up from my book. I sat ramrod straight, no faults in my posture. "Yes, come in, Chrom. We all know how well entering a tent unannounced can go." As I spoke, he took a seat at next to me. The moments where I could simply sit down and read a book were becoming more and more rare. I was always busy with planning, training, chores, or other miscellaneous things.
That, and all the shinanigans Chrom pulled me into took a toll on my time.
I couldn't see his expression, but I could guess that he was making an unamused one. "You did the same, you know."
"You started it."
"Hush." He tried to catch my eye. "You, uh... Is that a good book? You haven't looked up once."
I turned a page, keeping my gaze on the words. "I already know what you look like. I don't need confirmation of your appearance every time you enter a room," I huffed. "But yes. This is an intriguing story."
Chrom cleared his throat, shuffling around a bit. "This, uh, well, this doesn't have anything to do with earlier, right?"
I had enough. My upper body slouched in frustration as I finally made eye-contact with him. "What in the bloody hells do you think?"
Earlier today, I caught Chrom and Lissa messing with my tomes. Not only was that completely dangerous since neither of them know how to use magic properly and could hurt themselves, but they were my new tomes. I was yet to master the spells contained in them. Due to their inexperience and lack of tutor around, the tomes were badly damaged. Might I also add that those tomes were crazy expensive?
Luckily, the royal siblings were not harmed, but I was beyond upset with them. If they wanted to learn magic, then they could have just asked rather than take my advanced spells! Chrom promised to replace them but I was still pissed off at him.
"Hey! I said I was sorry!" He held his hands up in defense.
"Sorry doesn't bring my tomes back, Chrom!" I snarled, clutching my book.
He frowned, crossing his arms. "I'm going to replace them, I promise!" he sighed. "I just sent out the order, in fact."
I harrumphed, sitting straight once more. "Well, good. Thank you." I re-opened my book, finding the spot I left off. "If that was all you had to say, then you can leave," I noted the venom lacing my voice. I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not.
"Seriously? You're just going to leave me with that?"
I bit the inside of my cheek to keep myself from smiling. "I have to read as many books as I can. After all, you may destroy them as well." And with that, I drowned out both him and the world.
I did not hear any signs of him getting up or even moving. "Anna..." His voice was commanding.
"What?"
"You know you can't be like this forever, right?"
"Be like what?"
"Would it kill you to even smile or even look at me for over a minute?"
I shrugged. "Do you want to test that theory?"
"All right, that's it!" The sound of the chair scraping across the ground filled the tent, followed by footsteps. Good. Maybe he's leaving-
Before I could think of anything else, I was being lifted out of my chair and held bridal style by Chrom. I shrieked during the ascent. "AH! Chrom! Put me down!"
He smirked, hefting me in his arms. "Not until you laugh!"
"Chrom! I'm not kidding let me go!" Despite the embarrassing situation, I couldn't help the feeling of mirth spreading throughout my body. I playfully punched his chest as my shoulders began to tremble.
Chrom twirled me around, victory already present on his face. "Is that a laugh I sense?"
I couldn't contain myself any longer. My laughter rung throughout the tent. "Yes! You win! Now put me down!"
He did as I asked, setting me on the ground and smiling triumphantly. "Do you forgive me?"
I wiped away a few tears. "Of course, you idiot. I wasn't that mad at you in the first place."
"Then why the silent treatment!"
"Because why not!" I giggled. "Someone's gotta keep you in check! But know that if you ever do anything worse than earlier, you will be getting much more than the silent treatment!"
Chrom rolled his eyes. "Very well," he chuckled.
Gods, I can never really stay mad at him, can I? It is true that I wasn't too mad at him, but still. He could have done loads worse, honestly. But even when he does do something incredibly stupid, I will never remain mad at him for a long time.
I could never hate the man I love so dearly.
