Silence & Song
Sometime before Chapter 6. Anna
"With our swords in our hands, we will fight, we will fight. With the fire in our hearts, we will fight, we will fight. With our feet marching on, we will fight, we will fight. With great courage in our eyes, we will fight, we will fight..."
I quietly sang an old war-song to myself as I cleaned up the armory. "Let no one fall, let no one fail, let bravery shine, let our names ring. Let the battle rage on, let glory come, let us be lead to victory, let our friends win!"
As I finished stacking a pile of swords, I heard a rustle outside of the tent and stopped singing. I glanced at the entrance, smirking.
"We shall fight with great strength, we shall outsmart our foes, we shall come out on top, we shall never let go. We shall stand up and sing, we shall stand up and fight, we shall stand up and push until all is made right!"
I hummed the instrumental part and twirled to the rhythm. I fought and danced my way through the imaginary battlefield. I moved until I was dizzy and stopped.
"We look out on the field, we move on, we move on. We regroup with whose left, we move on, we move on. We account for those we've lost, we move on, we move on. We stoke the fire in our hearts, we move on, we move on. We march back to our home, we move on, we move on. We have brought back the peace, we move on, we move on. May there be no more bloodshed, we move on, we move on..."
Silence.
"...You know, it's rude to eavesdrop."
"Sorry!" Chrom came into the tent, blushing. "I-I heard you singing and I didn't want to disturb you!"
I rolled my eyes and walked over to him. "You didn't want to disturb me, or you wanted to hear me sing without my permission?" I pinched his cheek. "I'd expect more from Ylissean nobility."
He shook my hand off and frowned. "Hey, you didn't stop!"
I giggled and turned away. "Whatever. It's still rude."
Before I could start anything, he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close. "You sounded beautiful," he whispered. "You should sing more often."
Blush crept on my cheeks. "I-I'm really not that good!" I gulped. "Really! I sound like a dying animal!" Chills ran up my spine as he pressed a kiss to the back of my neck and nuzzled my hair.
"Would I ever lie?" He turned me around. "I'm serious, you sound so beautiful. Please, give yourself a little credit."
I pressed my forehead against his chest and let out a breath. "O-only for you! I will never sing for anyone else!"
Chrom chuckled and kissed the top of my head. "Well, it's a start."
...I really don't think I'll ever be able to sing in front of anyone but him... I don't know why, but I just do. Maybe it's because I trust him more than anyone else. Oh well, at least he likes it...that's all I could ever want...
*****
I tried my best. It's not the best song, but it was the best I could come up with. I was going to sing it but my voice is terrible and lets just not. Thank you so much for reading and look forward to reading more!
