Morning
Sometime after the Endgame. Frederick
"PAPA!!!"
Little Cynthia hopped on top of the bed and began to bounce. "It's time to wake up!!!"
I groaned and turned my face into the pillow. "Just...five more minutes, my pega-pony-princess..."
"Nooo!" She climbed onto my back and began to pull my hair. "You're an important captain! Important captain's don't need sleep!"
"Ow! Cynthia dear, enough of that!" I rolled over and placed the three-year-old in my lap. "Who told you that?"
"Auntie Lissa!"
"Of course." I sighed. She's a grown woman! You'd think she would be done with these pranks but noooo.
"What's all the commotion about...?" Sumia yawned as she sat up.
I plastered a smile on my face and turned to her. "It's nothing, dear. Our daughter here thinks that Daddy is invincible and doesn't require basic human needs."
Sumia giggled. "Well, you kind of are invincible."
"'Were', Sumia darling," I groaned. "I used to be in astonishing shape and mindset, but now I can't wake up anytime before five in the morning!"
"And that's saying something!" she exclaimed. "Most people aren't out of bed till eight!"
I frowned. "Well, I'm not most people. It is my duty as a knight and Captain of The Royal Guard-" Cynthia made a trumpet noise as I said my titles. I chuckled and ruffled her dark-brown hair. "It is my duty to be in top performance at all times of the day! Chrom depends on me!"
Sumia let out a breath and leaned against my shoulder. "Well, Chrom is also a father. He understands that kids don't understand the concept of sleep." She rubbed her swollen stomach. "And with number two on the way, it is understandable that you have been a bit more exhausted than usual lately."
"But I-"
"Remember when Anna was pregnant with Morgan?" Sumia raised an eyebrow at me. "Chrom was half-Risen those months! Dealing with a toddler and a pregnant wife is tiring. And you're in that situation right now. You're not out of shape or in a poor mindset. You're just a man who has too much on his plate."
Cynthia nodded. "Yeah! Daddy can survive through everything!"
I laughed and hugged my girls close. "Thank you. I promise that I will try to...what's the phrase? Take it easy?"
"You're hopeless!" Sumia giggled as she pressed her forehead against my chest. "Now, I think we should-"
She clutched her stomach, shot out of the bed, and tumbled into the bathroom.
Cynthia poked my chin. "Mommy is throwing up again."
I sighed. "I...I know, dear."
Moments later, Sumia popped her head out of the bathroom. "S-sorry about that. This little one decided that the morning sickness should start a bit earlier than normal."
I flashed her a nervous grin. "I-it's alright. It's only natural-"
I did not even get the chance to finish my sentence before my wife disappeared back into the bathroom and threw up some more.
"Daddy... I'm hungry..." Cynthia pouted. "Can I have cake for breakfast? Please? Pleeeeeease?"
I ran my hand through my hair and let out a breath. Years ago, I was the paragon of strength and dignity. I was in the ideal shape and had the most rigorous schedule. Now, my life is nothing but chaos.
And I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
*****
Here's some Fredmia for y'all. I wrote the cake for breakfast thing as a comedic relief thing, but I am currently eating a whole thing of Oreos for breakfast. I'm not ok XD. Anyway... Thank you so much for reading and look forward to reading more!
