Chapter 4: Bets

Amanda sighed heavily as she held a silver sword in her hand. It was not too heavy but weight enough that it would hurt someone if dropped. Thorin stood in front of her with a sword of his own watching her examine the blade in her own hands.

" Whenever you are ready." Thorin growled lowly to her as she swung the sword and took a defensive stance.

" No no, after you. I insist." Amanda smirked to the prince.

" Very well." Thorin replied as he stepped forward and their sword clashed loudly.

" My bet is on Thorin." Gloin said as he and a lot of dwarves bet on Thorin to win this fight. Everyone but Bofur, Gandalf, Bilbo, Kili and Bombur all placed their bets on Thorin. Bofur, Gandalf, Bilbo, Kili and Bombur had said that they thought Amanda might have a good chance on winning.

" Your good. But not good enough." Thorin growled and rushed over to her bring his sword down to her head which she blocked. But what she never expected was for him to take out her legs with his, causing her to land on the ground. Thorin placed the point of his sword at her chest.

" You fight good, but not good enough." Thorin smirked as everyone who had placed their bets on him cheered. Amanda sighed and relaxed her head on the ground, she closed her eyes and took in a breath. Everything slowed down and Amanda thought over her next moves. She thought over what her action was too be and with Thorin's reacts would be and how to counter them. Once she was happy with everything she snapped her eyes open. She clashed her sword against his and pushed it out the road. Pushing herself up she swung her feet to Thorin's legs and took them out. He landed with a thud still unable to register exactly what was happening to him. Amanda quickly jumped up onto her feet and placed a single foot onto his chest holding him down. She pointed her sword to his chest with a smirk.

" I'm sorry... Never quite caught what you said." Amanda smirked to the dumb founded Thorin. Everyone went quiet for a moment in amazement.

" What did I tell you! Never underestimate woman!" Bofur yelled happily as he stood up cheering and catching his winnings. Amanda chuckled and removed her blade point from Thorin's chest as put a hand out for him. He took it and Amanda helped pull him up.

"You fight well. " Thorin complimented her with a smile and pat on her shoulder, before he turned to Gandalf.

" Very well, she can join us. But, I want Kili with her at all times." Thorin told Gandalf who smiled and nodded pleased with himself.

" Very well." Gandalf said as everyone began to pack up their belongings.

" You fight well for a lady. Eh, not that that means anything. I just have never seen a lady fight before." Bilbo's said trying not to sound horrible but felt like he was failing at such. Amanda giggled softly and placed a hand onto his shoulder.

" Do not worry, I know exactly what you mean. Thank you, I bet you could fight too." Amanda smirked to him but he just shook his head frantically and looked to the ground.

" Me? No, no. I have never even touched a sword in my whole life, never mind fighting with one." Bilbo said with a sigh looking back up to her.

" Well, we may have to change that. Because unfortunately, wither you like it or not. You will have to fight on this quest. To protect yourself." Amanda said to him with a hint of saddens coating her voice as she turned to look at Kili, Fili and Thorin all talking to each other.

" And to protect those who you hold dear." Amanda finished off and looked back to him. There was no smile on her face as she remember what was to happen once they reclaim Erebor. She quickly took the thought away from her mind and smiled back to Bilbo.

" Come, let's finished getting everything ready." Amanda said getting the hobbit to help her put a roll mat onto the horses saddle. They had no extra ponies for Amanda so she would have to ride with one of the dwarves and seeing that she has to stay with Kili. She would be riding with the black haired dwarf.

" Let's head." Thorin called as everyone mounted their ponies and Gandalf onto his horse. Kili looked to Amanda too see if she need any help with getting onto the horse.

" Please, I have ridden horses all my life. I know how to mount one." Amanda smirked to him as she placed her foot onto the saddle and lifted herself easily up and onto the saddle. Kili smiled as he watched her, a shock of pride rushed through him from nowhere. Amanda looked down at him.

" Are you going to join me? Or walk?" Amanda asked with a smirk as Kili nodded and launched himself up onto the saddle. He had placed himself behind Amanda and took the reins from her hands and nodded to Thorin, who then started off on their days ride towards their next encampment. She talked to Kili most of the day, getting to know the youngest Durin brother better. But most of the information she already knew about him from when she lived in her own world. When she was back there, she would watch the hobbit all the time, seeing as it was her favourite set of movies. And out of all the dwarves and other characters in them, Kili had always been her favourite of them. In fact she remembered about her little crush on him.

" Amanda, your bright red. Do you have a fever?" Kili asked with concern as he looked down at her from behind.

"What! No, no. I am fine really." Amanda said in surprise, she really had been blushing at her own thoughts. It was then she realised that every part of her that was touching him behind, was tingling so slightly.

" We'll camp here for the night. Fili, Kili, look after the ponies. Make sure you stay with them." Thorin shouted to the company as everyone dismounted their horses. Gandalf walked over to a burnt house and looked around it.

" Oin, Gloin, get the fire going." Thorin commanded as Amanda joined Gandalf.

" A farmer and his family used to live here." Gandalf spoke loudly as Amanda looked alarums the house as well. She ran her fingers over the burnt wooden structure.

" It's fresh, no more than a few day." Amanda told him.

" It would seem so, Amanda. I think it would be wiser to move on. We could make for the Hidden Valley." Gandalf told Thorin as he walked over to him.

"I have told you already, I will not go near that place." Thorin growled to Gandalf and his eyes flashed to Amanda telling her not to aid the wizard in his hopeless appeal.

"Why not? The elves could help us. We could get food, rest, advice." Gandalf tried to reason with the old stubborn dwarves. But it was futile.

"I do not need their advice." Thorin grumbled, not backing down from his decision.

"We have a map that we cannot read. Lord Elrond could help us." Gandalf continued to argue with his losing battle. Amanda sighed heavily knowing where this was going.

"Help? A dragon attacks Erebor, what help came from the Elves? Orcs plunder Moria, desecrate our sacred halls, the Elves looked on and did nothing. You ask me to seek out the very people who betrayed my grandfather and betrayed my father." Thorin shouted to the wizard.

"You are neither of them. I did not give you that map and key for you to hold on to the past." Gandalf began to raise his voice as well.

"I did not know that they were yours to keep." Thorin finished off.m

" Why do you not want to accept help?" Amanda asked him not caring for the glare she was receiving from him.

" They will try to stop our quest." Thorin growled to him.

" Yes they will, but I am positive that is not the only reason!" Amanda growled back to him.

" And what might that be?" Thorin shouted to her.

" Your pride!" Gandalf yelled as he walked away from the pair.

"Everything alright? Gandalf, where are you going?" Bilbo's asked trying to keep up with the fast walking wizard.

"To seek the company of the only one besides Amanda around here who's got any sense." Gandalf grumbled as he continued one not stopping for anything.

"Who's that?" Bilbo asked bewildered at the Grey cloaked wizard.

"Myself, Mr. Baggins! I've had enough of dwarves for one day." He finished before disappearing from the company. Amanda walked past Thorin as he put a hand on her shoulder to stop her.

" You will do well to remember who you are speaking to in the future!" He spat in her ear. Amanda turned her head to the dwarf with a glare that could ignite even the wettest of wood alight.

" I suggest the same for you and your pride." Amanda spat before ripping her shoulder from his grasp and heading towards a rock away from the company.

"Come on, Bombur, we're hungry." Thorin called out as he followed Amanda watching her every move.

"Is he coming back?" Bilbos asked Balin who shrugged his shoulder in reply. Bilbo walked forward and Thorin took his place next to the old grey haired dwarf.

" I still do not trust the woman." Thorin growled watching her every move.

" Oh come on Thorin. She has a name." Balin tried to reason with him.

" I think she is quite pleasant company to be around. And Kili seems to have taken a liking to her as well." Balin smiled as he watched Amanda playing with a small white flower she had found.

" Something is off about her. And I don't like it." Thorin grumbled before walking over to a log and sitting down. Balin could only sigh as his attitude.
